Do you have any tips on how you draw faces straight on like you do? I often find myself struggling with proportions and making the face too flat, if that makes sense.

this is a tough one… straight on is my least favourite angle to draw faces at, and you will find that i rarely do it as i honestly find it really difficult myself!

i think the most important thing for me is thinking about the slightest angles i’m aiming for - i.e is the character looking up through their brows (face tilted downward), or up at something past the viewer (tilted upward slightly). sometimes these get jumbled in my brain and I’ll end up drawing parts of the face with slightly different perspective in mind, and it lacks cohesiveness.

to avoid it feeling too flat (i totally understand what you mean, without the curves of the nose/cheekbones etc that you get with a side profile or quarter profile it can feel like there’s not a lot to actually draw) i really like to almost overdo the facial expression - focus on where the natural dark parts of the face are, and bring in some more severe lighting so you get an opportunity to highlight some of the shadows and create some visual interest. near the eyes/nose/mouth specifically where you can convey emotion i find the most fun.

from a more “technical” standpoint for proportions - the 1/3 guide can be helpful if you are drawing a face dead straight, gets a little dicey when you bring angles/perspective into the mix but can be a good general guide as you start out! e.g, the eyes are approx halfway down the face (from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head). having said that - every face is different, and i find drawing unique features is the most interesting, so these aren’t hard rules - but they can be beneficial starting points. also - look at references! faces are complex and when you throw angles and perspective in the mix nothing is more helpful than just looking at pictures of what it’s actually supposed to look like - faces are learning tools!!

Okay, i’m addressing this here once, as you seem very intent on getting my attention (anonymously in all cases, i might add).

I clearly love Levi as a character, given that i create content based on him for free on my platforms. He is an excellent example of so many different intricate and complex themes and concepts - perseverance, humanity, justice, etc. I will continue to make content of him exploring these concepts.

I also enjoy the dynamics that he shares with different characters, especially relating to how his personality interacts with those around him. This is common through all of my works.

When i write or draw Levi (typically with Erwin or reader) in situations or ways in which he could be perceived as more “submissive” (for lack of a better term), this is not done with any sort of malice (as you seem to assume) or lack of interest or respect for the character. This is done as i personally enjoy the exploration of power dynamics in media. A man being portrayed as “submissive” is not an intrinsically negative thing.

It is also important to note - these characters are not real, and anything i write or make content for is not reflective of my thoughts or feelings on real world relationships or people.

Assuming you are a single person, and i haven’t just fallen into a very interesting side of this fandom recently - i think you need to asses how intensely you feel about Levi as a fictional character (and general media consumption), and your own internalised views, if you think that this sort of messaging is appropriate to send to people. I welcome discussion, and open forums for opinions - but this sort of messaging is not beneficial in any way - it’s nothing but cruel.
