It’s Been Real!
Wow! It is so hard to believe this is the final course in my program. The time flew by so quickly! In this concluding class, my cohort and I focused on completing our final paper offering results from our respective capstone projects. Initially, I perceived this course would have me completely consumed in editing my research paper. In addition, I anticipated the assignments would concentrate on more writing mechanics.
During this course, my initial expectations were wrong! We did have lessons that offered tips and guidance on writing techniques, but not necessarily regarding our final paper. I appreciated having lessons that helped with creating a professional bio and pitch. There was also a lesson that assisted with resume and cover letter creation. As we begin to pursue jobs or start businesses, these lessons will prove to be extremely beneficial. The assignments we were given that were related to our paper resulted in some of our work being reviewed by our peers. I really liked this aspect because it offered an opportunity for me to learn from my peers. I was able to gain insight on how to make my writing better as well as what elements of my style I could improve.
I was extremely pleased with the feedback from our professor. She was very timely and detailed with her level of guidance. Writing is not my BEST feature, but our professor was very kind and helpful. However, that is how all my professors have been in this program. All of them gave me the feeling they wanted to see me win and be successful in their respective courses and in the overall program.
Being at the end of this program is very bittersweet. I have enjoyed engaging with my peers and seeing their project elements. I recommend Full Sail to anyone looking for an institution to further their education. The experience I have had has been as pleasant as a graduate program could be, I imagine. As this comes to an end, I am looking forward to implementing what I have learned expeditiously!
I thank you, Full Sail University.

Events Marketing & Production
Prior to taking this course, I thought I had event production and management figured out. I assist my church and friends with creating and producing events. It is something I really enjoy doing. I do not have much of a creative mind, but I like to work the logistics of a plan to bring it to life. Though my initial expectations were not fully met, I had fun creating projects in this course and learned some valuable lessons. I even appreciated seeing my peers’ work and learning from their presentations and learning how to make my work stronger. The takeaways from this class can and will be used immediately in my real life situations.
The first thing I hoped to learn was how to generate event anticipation. This was addressed as we began to plan our webinar events. I had never done or even considered developing a webinar before. This easily became my favorite part of the course. To drum up anticipation, we focused on a topic that would attract our target demographic. Once the topics were selected, we created flyers for the event that could easily be posted on any social media platform. The flyers gave an overview of the webinar as well as the date and time.
Proper event execution is something that has always been of interest to me. In this course, we were tasked with preparing an event plan to present to a client. The plan included a summary of the event, venue information, a budget, and other pertinent details. I appreciated this project because it gave me a better idea of how to organize my thoughts around an event. I also learned a new way to deliver an event idea to stakeholders.
Events Marketing & Production was a great class that offered me plenty of positive challenges. This is probably in my top 3 of favorite courses in this program.

Market and Consumer Analysis - A Look Back
Our Market and Consumer Research Analysis course met all of my previous expectations. It was a struggle for me because I am not good at writing research papers (eek!). I am more of a creative and persuasive writer. However, the professor was extremely helpful and supportive. She restored my confidence and helped me get through the course.
One of my expectations was to learn how to research target demographics. Boy, did I ever learn this! This course took this exact direction. This took me out of my comfort zone in a good way. I learned some vital skills that will be required for a successful career in PR. I was able to use different methods of research to compile useful information for my project. I interviewed someone; I read countless articles and used the University’s resources. Even if I did not use all the sources I read, this class gave me the opportunity to learn a great deal.
I also expected to learn about consumer interaction with content. As I researched my target demographics, it was also important for me to understand their social media habits. Additionally, I needed to be able to measure the importance of these interactions. This expectation was also met during my time in this course. I was able to conduct my own survey to see where our target demographic preferred to interact with their favorite brands. By doing so, I was able to detect a variable that may not be a wise investment of time and effort.
My favorite part of this course was the actual research. I enjoyed reading the various points of view. I appreciated seeing how different entities utilize social media and comparing their methods to others. I really liked learning new tactics for creating desirable content and will further my reading in this area.
Overall, this was not an easy class for me! Nevertheless, it was a great class that taught me valuable lessons about my desired career path. I will welcome practice with conducting research and delivering the results so I may improve.

Public Relations in a Digital World - In the books!
Public Relations in a Digital World was a phenomenal course for me! I gained a wealth of knowledge from the articles we read in class, but even more so from the assignments. My favorite assignment was the PSA creation. Scripting this was a great exercise. Being tasked to pull out pertinent information to share with the public was a little difficult for me. It was also a challenge for me to get the audio down to 30 seconds. Because of these challenges is why it was my favorite! Overall, this is something I will do on a regular basis and I am grateful for getting this type of hands-on experience.
I am confident all these courses will be a great help during my pursuit of a public relations career. The most important topic for me was personal branding. I view PR as a very personal representation so it’s critical to have a solid brand. Knowing how to properly brand and market myself (as well as potential clients) on social media is very important. Another topic that will prove beneficial was about how to effectively use social media. Each social media platform has great benefits but knowing how and when to utilize each can be tricky. This course has helped me understand the nuances of social media such as Facebook algorithms and the use of media scheduling sites.
The knowledge provided in this course has further piqued and confirmed my interest in the field of public relations. The topics discussed in this course equips me with knowledge to set myself up for success. I feel better prepared to polish and market my personal brand; I feel better prepared to assist with social media marketing and strategy creation; and I am better prepared to assist others with doing the same. I am excited about my matriculation through the rest of this program!

PREACH, OPRAH! I recently submitted a research paper where I focused on Oprah and how she has been an inspiration to me. When I was in elementary school, I wanted nothing more than to be Oprah. Not so much for the money (but who am I kidding... that would be fantastic!), but rather because of how gracefully she marched to the throne she now sits upon. I can still make it.
