Hidden in the fog. That day we actually wanted to go up the Campanile, but the fog would’ve blocked our view completely. So we changed our plans and walked around the city instead, thoroughly encompassed in thick clouds of haze. It would stay like this the whole day, but for little moments in between the sun would gaze through the mist. A rather surreal spectacle, yet one I wouldn’t want to trade in for “better” weather. Have you seen Venice in the fog? Or do you prefer sun and blue sky instead? (at Venice, Italy)

Venetians in the morning. When you get up early in Venice you’ll notice that there are some locals left in the city. In the past decades Venice has suffered from a loss of inhabitants quite significantly. The heavy influx of tourism being one of the main causes for Venetians to leave their home town. During the day you will hardly come by any locals at the bridge of sighs, one of the most iconic places of the city. But early in the morning chances are you’ll get to see one of the real Venetians. Dressed elegantly and casually smoking a cigar for breakfast. (at Venice, Italy)

The hazy view from the Rialto bridge. It’s funny that one of Venice’s most famous landmarks is invaded by tourists. Once they arrive at the top of the bridge they notice that they can’t take a photo of the bridge while they stand on it 😂 But the view from the bridge down on the canal is equally impressive anyways! Thanks to all of your restaurant tips by the way - you saved us from more painful food moments. I guess it’s necessary to get ripped off in Venice at least once when it comes to restaurants 🤔 But the rest of the days we had some really great food encounters thanks to you guys!! Hidden in the fog. The Doge’s Palace in Venice is one of the major landmarks of the city and an important example of Venetian Gothic architecture. I’m not an architecture professional, but this building definitely casts a spell. The colors, the columns, the symmetry - it’s quite compelling. Well and in the fog everything looks even more magnificent (just in case I haven’t mentioned this before 😉). (at Venice, Italy)

On our last day in Venice the fog had disappeared and the city looked completely different. But I have made up my mind: I like Venice a lot more in the fog. A city with so much tourism and little secrets left it’s good to return some things to mystery. And fog creates this illusion of mystery in a near perfect way! Thanks to @baglionihotels for having us the last two nights! (at Venice, Italy)

A lonesome bird during his early morning catch under the bridge of sighs. We got quite lucky to experience this moment completely alone at the famous bridge. At 7am in the morning nobody else was up yet on this foggy and cold winter morning. And as our hotel is only 3 minutes away we just hopped over there before breakfast. Not a bad start in the day! Thanks for having us @baglionihotels (at Bridge of Sighs)

This is #Venice in an unexpected way. The one photo spot I had planned was the “Ponte dell’Accademia” and it’s wonderful view of the Canale Grande. Well, turns out the whole bridge is under construction and there’s no view... instead I met a pigeon! I kind of like this different scene of Venice though - although I have to admit I was a tad disappointed when I arrived at the bridge 😂 (at Ponte dell'Accademia)

Venice can be silent, in exceptions. The exceptions include the low season after the Carnival (and before spring), days with rain and fog and the very early morning hours. We hit the triple jackpot: Beginning of March is off-season, it’s been raining every day since we’re here and we get up early at 6am to stroll the city before the crowds. I don’t want to imagine the magical silence of Venice’s small canals and narrow paths crowded with people. This would totally ruin my impression of the city so far 😉 (at Venice, Italy)

Ciao #Venezia! We’re spending a couple of days in the lagoon city to shoot a new travel editorial. I’m finally trying to let go and not to plan too much, so I can get back into the groove of just walking around and shooting. I’ve fallen into the trap of researching and seeking out the same places everyone shoots too many times already. Speaking of not making any plans: If you do have any restaurant tips, we’d be thankful 😉 Venice is full of crazy touristy places, which we’d like to avoid if possible 😂 (at Venezia, Italia)

Back from silence. I never had such a long Instagram pause before. Posting to my feed didn’t feel right for a good while... and I can’t even tell you why. Sometimes I just pause to reset, think over certain actions and behavior. Probably to the extend where I overthink everything 🙈 So it’s about time to silence the critical voices in my brain and just put myself out there again! I’m back for now. Beware 😉 (at Faroe Islands)

Best of 2017 [6/7]. Faroe Islands. We had high expectations for our visit of the archipelago and were not disappointed. The Faroe Islands are just as untouched and remote as we had hoped. Especially our day trip to the island of Fugloy turned out to be a real adventure - and it started all aboard a helicopter ride that only cost us 15 euros. We don’t think you’ll be able to fly a helicopter for such a low fare anywhere else. Quite a bargain! Follow the link in my bio if you want to find out more about how we nearly got stranded on this island with just 44 residents and how to fly a helicopter on the Faroe Islands! (at Fugloy)

Best of 2017 [5/7]. Lanzarote. Our trip to the island of Lanzarote was quite a pleasant surprise. We were there to shoot a fashion editorial in the moonlight landscapes for @lionheaded, but ended up discovering the island was more than just volcanoes and dry land. We actually fell for this place, the ruggedness and iconic white minimal architecture, the fog covered mountain tops and empty streets through the land. And then the food! Definitely our favorite of the Canary Islands... Well, you can read all about it on thetravelblog.at! Have you been on the Canary Islands before and which one is your favorite? (at Lanzarote)

Best of 2017 [4/7]. Petra, Jordan. I know, I know - I probably posted enough Petra photos by now... but when thinking about my top travel destinations of last year this had to make the list. To keep it real I left the one solo tourist pulling up his pants in front of the Treasury facade in be picture (instead of staging a pretty girl in a white dress carrying an umbrella in there) 😉 I hope you don’t mind! It helps to imagine the scale of this impressive carved facade! If you haven’t been to Petra, make sure to put it on your bucket list. A walk down the Indiana Jones memory lane will be included! 😉 Happy travels! (at The Treasury At Petra)

Best of 2017 [3/7]. Aruba. We found the Caribbean perfection at this beach in Aruba. But the island has more to offer than just white beaches and turquoise water. We got surprised by the rough east coast of the island with it’s high waves and rocky shores. We discovered the caves and mountains and learned that the word “Danki” is used here just like we use “Danke” in German. And we truly learned why Aruba is called #OneHappyIsland! (at Aruba)

Best of 2017 [2/7]. Havana - one of my favorite cities ever. I’m usually not drawn to cities as intensively as to nature, but the Cuban capital marked an exception. There’s a special vibe and spirit about this city. It forces you to slow down and take things less seriously. It puts a smile on your face every time a vintage car passes by or a game of Backgammon is played on a table in the middle of the street. It makes you feel how life used to be in other cities - when people used to live in the streets and the city center wasn’t turned into a commercial dead zone yet. Havana, please don’t change too quickly (but maybe get more vegetarian food and WiFi 🤔😉)! (at Havana, Cuba)

{ Best of 2017 # 1 of 7 } I’m back after a long break here on Instagram (well I posted insta stories, but no photos). We’re currently on vacation and planning our travels for 2018. But it’s always worth the while to look back on the old year to remind ourselves what to be thankful for. 7 destinations really stood out last year and will be featured here over the next couple of days. Number 1 being the incredible pink lagoon in Las Coloradas, Mexico. This is also the most read blogpost this year and I can see why! 🎀 What were your travel highlights of the year 2017? (at Las Coloradas Yucatan Mexico)

Can’t stop with those #Petra photos... ❤️ This is our guide Mohammed who brought us up to the famous viewpoint of the Treasury. He hopped up the steep and unsecured trail like a mountain goat, while we were wondering if we made the right decision to take this route. Up there he got his cup of tea and listened to music from his smartphone - and we were just happy nobody got injured on the way up 😂 If you ever plan on visiting Petra make sure to come prepared (good shoes!) and maybe consider taking the longer, but safer route. 👁🗨 More photos and infos in my latest travel stories on www.thetravelblog.at! #ShareYourJordan (at The Treasury At Petra)
