Sometimes I get sad that I've been on this website for over 10 years now and I've got like 1 or 2 mutuals since most of them went away after the nsfw purge and the ceo transfer, but I'm also glad that there's no one there to see what I wrote so I can basically write whatever and have no repercussion.

Like, I can admit that I like picking my nose and flinging the boogers away when I can't find tissues and like, no one's ever gonna see this so I don't care anymore.

omg PLEASE share how to make custom themes for my 3ds!!!

ofc!! it's very easy :) to start with, you're gonna need microsoft visual studio with .net framework 4.5 or higher installed, and you're going to need to download usagi 3ds theme editor. when you launch usagi it should give you a live preview of the 3ds home screen display, and you can import images and change the colors of elements in the usagi editor.

this is what usagi's interface looks like:

it's pretty intuitive--the "image" menu lets you upload images, the "colors" tab lets you change the colors of certain elements, etc. all the changes you make will show up on the preview screen in real time. one thing to note: at least for me, when making a new theme, most color elements will automatically be disabled. to fix this, go into the "flags" tab and enable all the elements you want to change.

(note: I would recommend having photoshop or another photo editor on hand while you edit, because usagi needs images to be properly sized and formatted prior to upload or it won't import or display them properly.)

adding music is the one thing usagi isn't super intuitive about. it's got a feature to preview music, but not a place to actually import or convert music files to usable theme files. to do that, you need to use a BRSTM conversion tool. with the one I linked, you need to start with a .wav file (other file types might work, mp3 does not) and use the tool to convert it to BRSTM, and then convert that BRSTM to BCSTM with the same tool.

(i know that process is confusing. for our purposes, the settings in this converter can all be left at their defaults. basically, start with a .wav file of your music, click the top middle "convert audio to BRSTM" button, then once that operation finishes, click the bottom left "convert BRSTM to BCSTM (3DS)" button and select your newly-created .brstm file. when you're done, you should be left with a .bcstm file of your music.)

once you have your BCSTM file, rename it to "BGM.bcstm" and drop it in the folder with your other theme files saved from usagi. If you want to preview your music, reload your theme files into usagi from the folder with your BCTSM and theme files and hit the "BGM play" button.

when you save your theme, it should save as two seperate files, a "body_lz.bin" file and a "info.smdh" file. make a new folder for your theme and make sure both these files are in it before transferring your theme to your SD card. a properly formatted theme folder should look something like this (BGM.bctsm & preview image files are optional):

then all you have to do is copy that entire folder to the "themes" folder on your 3ds's SD card, load it in anemone3ds, and your custom theme should be on your 3ds! i hope this helped :)
