Swan Princess is my ambitious first long fic idea that I scrapped for sskk bb (bc in what world was I gonna write my first long fic in the summer WITH other fic deadlines and a family trip?? Not this one lmao)

It’s based off of the animated Swan Princess (1994) and Barbie of Swan Lake with adopted Atsushi with royal family (Fukuzawa and Ranpo)

Feat. cursed Kyouka (bunny), Kenji (farm dog), and Poe (raven) - and obvi Atsushi (tiger) and yes I’m probably gonna title it “Tiger Prince” or smth lol

I’m really proud and excited for this idea so here’s a longer bit- and shout out to @solsticelosthermind for encouraging me to go for it and I still will‼️

Tsuki starts walking further into the woods, looking back at Fukuzawa to follow. He’s never acted like this, it must be a good find.

It doesn’t take long for Fukuzawa to see where or what his dog is leading them to. Up against a tree was a clump of grey cloth, someone must’ve forgotten it in the woods on some picnic. He knows villagers appreciate these woods as much as he does.

Tsuki bounds up the clump and looks back at Fukuzawa. He noses at the side and whines once before headbutting the lump again.

Fukuzawa is still walking up the tree, he can’t really see what it is yet

But when Tsuki noses at it one more time, does it roll over

To reveal a child.

Fukuzawa throws his bow down and runs towards the tree, nearly stumbling face first into the trunk as he falls to his knees where the child lays.

Tsuki stands at their side, whining and licking at the child’s frozen hands.

To think the clump of fabric on the ground was a boy. Now on his back, Fukuzawa can clearly see the boy

Dressed in patchwork greys and browns too big for his figure, Fukuzawa recognizes some of the writing across the stitches from local potato sacks or chicken feed. The boy couldn’t be older than three or four years old, he’s so small. He’s too small.

Scars and bruises decorate his arms and legs. Too many to count, too many too fresh for Fukuzawa to hold back the tears in his eyes.

Short and scrappy haircut, the ends crusted over from dirt and oils

Would a boy this small survive the colder mornings? How long has he been out here?

Questions and concerns flooded Fukuzawa’s head.

Fukuzawa leaned down and placed his head on the boy’s chest, hoping and praying for any sign of life. The cold and pale skin and blue lips did not help their odds. It felt like eons waiting, Tsuki silent next to them.

Then, a shuddering breath left the boy’s lips, his protruding ribs shaking underneath Fukuzawa’s head. But he couldn’t think of the bones bumping out of the boy’s skin, for he was alive. And he would live.

Fukuzawa exhaled heavily, the tears that had welled up in his eyes had broken through, streaking his cheeks in joy.

He looks up at Tsuki and ruffles his fur, “Good boy, Tsuki. Good boy!” He’ll forever be grateful for his hunting dog for bringing him to his greatest find in these woods.

Ok long yap warning but this is a soulmate au I've been writing (with both platonic and romantic soulmates) where as long as you and your soulmate are asleep at the same time, you can appear in each others' dreams ig? The downside is that no one can remember their dreams, so they don't know if they actually have soulmates until they meet and have some kind of skin contact (can be deliberate, or just accidentally bumping into someone, and some abilities count as physical touch and some don't) at which time they get all of their memories with that one person. The idea was that even if you meet your soulmates later in life, you'll still have a lot of memories with them and you won't feel like you've missed anything? There are also some in-dream rules, like you can't talk about (or really think about) other soulmates in the dream so no one gets "spoiled" by meeting one soulmate (like if person a tells their soulmate (person b) about their other soulmates and meets person b first, person a would know their other soulmates bc they got their memories, and that's not allowed)

But once you meet a soulmate in person, you can talk about them with your other soulmates (unless you share a soulmate with them (which would mean you know they share a soulmate with you, but they don't know, and you can't say))

Anyway you only meet your soulmates for the first time when one (or both) person/people need comfort and are already sleeping at the same time, so things like timezones can be tricky (for example, poe and ranpo don't meet until the death of ranpo's parents bc ranpo falls asleep mid-funeral (i.e. during the day) which is when poe would normally be asleep, which is how they meet)

But the actual plot is that Poe and Akutagawa are platonic soulmates, and they meet six years before canon (after poe refuses to take Ranpo's hand during the competition and accidentally postpones their own meeting by a few years bc neither of them have the right memories and poe still thinks he hates ranpo to his very core) and just before Akutagawa meets Dazai and all his friends like. die

(Btw dream ranpo finds it very funny that real world poe is trying to kill him, and dream poe is just embarrassed)

Poe winds up bumping into Akutagawa, they both get their memories (which are mostly akutagawa slowly opening up to poe like a disgruntled cat over the course of 2 years) and poe gets him, gin, and the other 5 orphans out of the forest (unfortunately this means I actually have to write five more characters from scratch, but whatever lmfao)

Edgar knows he’s being watched the moment he wakes up, so it isn’t as startling as it could be to see Ryuunosuke staring at him from across the living room floor, silent and still. The moon is still high in the sky, so it’s probably somewhere around two in the morning, and Edgar can only sigh before sitting up against the arm of the couch.

“Do you need something?” he asks, and Ryuunosuke only stares back at him. His back hurts, but sleeping on the couch tends to do that. “Blankets?”

At that, Ryuunosuke murmurs, “Need to keep watch.”

Ah. Edgar pointedly does not sigh at that, because it does make sense. Of course he wouldn't trust Edgar that easily. He has to admit, getting two years' worth of memories in an instant is more jarring than people say it is.

Unfortunately, Ryuunosuke is also a child, which means he needs sleep.

Slowly, giving himself time to stretch, Edgar stands. He sees Ryuunosuke tense, standing to follow as Edgar makes his way to the one supply closet he'd bothered to fill. He takes two blankets—the boy seems like he gets cold easily—even if he’s not entirely sure why his sponsor had left them in the first place.

Shrugging off the thought, Edgar makes his way back to the couch, tossing the blankets onto the further end and picking up the book on his nightstand.

“At least sit on the couch,” he says, flipping through the pages and trying to remember where he’d left off. (Karl always runs off with his bookmarks.)

Out of the corner of his eye, Edgar sees Ryuunosuke step towards the couch, glaring at the blankets sprawled across the seat as though they’d personally offended him. Still, glancing back at Edgar suspiciously, he sits, lifting the blankets just enough to cover his legs. Edgar keeps reading, letting Ryuunosuke stare at him even if it’s more than a bit awkward. They’re silent for about ten minutes before he asks the question Edgar knows has been burning on his tongue for hours.

“Why?”

Edgar closes the book, keeping his thumb in between the pages. “Why not?”

The boy scoffs, looking towards the window, and then his glare is back on Edgar, “We don’t need you. We’re fine on our own.”

“I could take you back,” Edgar offers, and Ryuunosuke freezes. Quickly, he tries again, “That’s not a threat. It’s genuine. I’d rather not have any of you feel like I’m keeping you hostage—while I’m not keen on sending children off on their own, I’ll take you back if you really want to.”

“We’re not kids,” Ryuunosuke hisses, making Edgar frown.

“You’re like– a freshman at best. Thirteen?”

“Fourteen.”

“Fourteen,” Edgar sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose. Fourteen is a weird age. You’re not quite a teenager, even though you’ve technically been one for a year, but not really a kid either. He certainly wouldn’t want to be fourteen again. He pivots, “Do you want to use your ability on me?”

There’s a brief silence, and Ryuunosuke stares at him like he’s an idiot. Rude. “You want me to stab you?”

“No,” Edgar rolls his eyes, even if Ryuunosuke can’t see them past his fringe. “Your ability is good for more than stabbing, isn’t it? You were using it to hold onto Gin before.”

Ryuunosuke narrows his eyes, “And why would I do that?”

Edgar could explain that doing so would give Ryuunosuke some semblance of control, make him relax a bit, and maybe let him fall asleep if he knew Edgar literally couldn’t go anywhere, but he’s fairly certain a response like that would just make things worse. Instead, he shrugs. “You don’t have to. Just a suggestion.”

He seems to take it at that, to Edgar’s surprise, “Why do you cover your face?”

“My eyes are sensitive to light,” Edgar responds easily, “But you know that.”

“I should use that against you,” Ryuunosuke says, clearly intending to sound threatening but only succeeding in making Edgar grin. 

“Sure. Do you remember that I’m also afraid of heights and I don’t do well in crowded places?”

“Do not make fun of me,” Ryuunosuke hisses.

“Think of it as a peace offering,” Edgar tilts his head. It’s weird having a conversation without Karl on his shoulders (and a conversation that he’s pretty sure they’ve already had at that), but he’s pretty sure the other kids trapped Karl in Edgar’s room with them when they went to sleep. Still, talking to kids has always been easier than talking to adults. Open hostility he can deal with—silent judgement not so much. “You can use that against me if you need to.”

Anyway they eventually go back to america and they all join the Guild together aslkjadlj so Fitzgerald shows up intending to recruit Edgar and gets seven overprotective teenagers as a bonus (akutagawa is particularly interested in poe's revenge plot, and the kids all try to help poe with his novel lmao)

Idk this all spawned bc I realized akutagawa met dazai at the same time poe lost the competition and I was like....... well. details are subject to change but this is what im planning on so far

WIP (not) Wednesday!! Whatever close enough lmao ty @spaceace00 for tagging me ily <33

Ngl I've only worked on a few this week bc I forgot reading and writing fanfiction are both full time jobs apparently lmao but I've def worked on some!

First I've been working on a kunikida&agency rarepair fic (I really wanted to do at least one platonic rarepair and this has been calling out to me since forever)

The fic actually started bc (lowkey cw?) I think he's got some crazy potential for heartbreaking hcs and one of my personal favs is that Kunikida writes everything down bc he has trouble remembering things (either from PTSD or just genetic ig) and he's terrified he's going to forget something important,,, so in this fic when he joined the agency he started writing down characteristics and personality traits of all of his coworkers almost obsessively bc he had the fear that they were going to die or disappear under mysterious circumstances and he wouldn't be able to remember their faces/anything else

Obviously Ranpo and Yosano notice eventually (I also hc that bc we haven't gotten a super clear timeline Kunikida joined the agency around 3-4 years ago when only yosano fukazawa and ranpo were part of the agency but thats definitely subject to change) and their solution is to get him a camera :) So each section of the fic is a picture he takes with different members of the agency! The fic is all post-canon so we're including sigma, aya, etc. Tbh I've slowly walked away from that hc and made it just a how Kunikida bonds with all of the agency members but idk here's a snippet with poe bc I think it's funny

Kunikida winds up uploading Sigma’s photo onto the official agency database, mainly because they didn’t have anything on file other than their police report, and Kunikida doesn't particularly feel like putting a mugshot on the agency website. It makes him realize something else, though.

…Which leads him to this.

“You’d like to take a photo of me?” Poe asks, confused and sounding a bit frightened. The raccoon on his shoulders makes a curious sound.

“Yes,” Kunikida affirms, “We have a photo of every member of the agency on our website, mainly because Dazai-san decided that for some reason we needed to go digital—” Kunikida stops himself from going further into the topic, because that would surely keep them both here for far too long. “—No matter. Anyway, I realized that we don’t have a photo of you.”

Poe stares (or that's what Kunikida assumes he does, because he can’t really see the man’s eyes) before smiling awkwardly.

“I’m sorry, Kunikida-san, but… I’m not part of the agency?”

Kunikida frowns, and Poe scrambles for a response.

“Not that I’m not flattered! I just—I don’t want to waste your time, because I’m not a real member, and while—”

Kunikida holds up a hand, and Poe quiets almost immediately, “Poe-san, we have your application. It was approved after the events of the vampire incident.”

Poe tilts his head, just enough for Kunikida to see one eye blink at him, “What?”

“Your application. Ranpo-san gave it to us, saying you were taking Karl to the veterinarian because Karl was ill—”

They both freeze. If there were a pen in Kunikida’s hands, it surely would have shattered.

Poe is the first to regain his composure, but he still sounds utterly horrified as he says, “I never filled out an application.”

“Ranpo-san committed identity theft,” Kunikida continues, just as appalled.

"Um!" Poe says quickly, probably sensing Kunikida's growing ire and slight murderous intent towards Ranpo, "The photo!"

In the end I'm probably not going to like confirm any ships bc its supposed to be for rarepair week so everyone is going to be whatever you want them to be, but I think Kunikida and Poe would be a funny friendship <3

I've also been working on a platonic soulmate au (not for rarepair week, but bc I want the akutagawa siblings to be adopted by poe bc apparently that's all I write), a ranpoe established relationship fic where poe and ranpo make a deal that if poe can surprise ranpo with a proposal, ranpo will accept, and its all just very sappy and romantic, my chb au, the back in time poe and chuuya fic, and TAMTT

Also I say "work" but I use that in very loose terms... But its summer now so hopefully I'll have more time to write!
