Ok long yap warning but this is a soulmate au I've been writing (with both platonic and romantic soulmates) where as long as you and your soulmate are asleep at the same time, you can appear in each others' dreams ig? The downside is that no one can remember their dreams, so they don't know if they actually have soulmates until they meet and have some kind of skin contact (can be deliberate, or just accidentally bumping into someone, and some abilities count as physical touch and some don't) at which time they get all of their memories with that one person. The idea was that even if you meet your soulmates later in life, you'll still have a lot of memories with them and you won't feel like you've missed anything? There are also some in-dream rules, like you can't talk about (or really think about) other soulmates in the dream so no one gets "spoiled" by meeting one soulmate (like if person a tells their soulmate (person b) about their other soulmates and meets person b first, person a would know their other soulmates bc they got their memories, and that's not allowed)

But once you meet a soulmate in person, you can talk about them with your other soulmates (unless you share a soulmate with them (which would mean you know they share a soulmate with you, but they don't know, and you can't say))

Anyway you only meet your soulmates for the first time when one (or both) person/people need comfort and are already sleeping at the same time, so things like timezones can be tricky (for example, poe and ranpo don't meet until the death of ranpo's parents bc ranpo falls asleep mid-funeral (i.e. during the day) which is when poe would normally be asleep, which is how they meet)

But the actual plot is that Poe and Akutagawa are platonic soulmates, and they meet six years before canon (after poe refuses to take Ranpo's hand during the competition and accidentally postpones their own meeting by a few years bc neither of them have the right memories and poe still thinks he hates ranpo to his very core) and just before Akutagawa meets Dazai and all his friends like. die

(Btw dream ranpo finds it very funny that real world poe is trying to kill him, and dream poe is just embarrassed)

Poe winds up bumping into Akutagawa, they both get their memories (which are mostly akutagawa slowly opening up to poe like a disgruntled cat over the course of 2 years) and poe gets him, gin, and the other 5 orphans out of the forest (unfortunately this means I actually have to write five more characters from scratch, but whatever lmfao)

Edgar knows he’s being watched the moment he wakes up, so it isn’t as startling as it could be to see Ryuunosuke staring at him from across the living room floor, silent and still. The moon is still high in the sky, so it’s probably somewhere around two in the morning, and Edgar can only sigh before sitting up against the arm of the couch.

“Do you need something?” he asks, and Ryuunosuke only stares back at him. His back hurts, but sleeping on the couch tends to do that. “Blankets?”

At that, Ryuunosuke murmurs, “Need to keep watch.”

Ah. Edgar pointedly does not sigh at that, because it does make sense. Of course he wouldn't trust Edgar that easily. He has to admit, getting two years' worth of memories in an instant is more jarring than people say it is.

Unfortunately, Ryuunosuke is also a child, which means he needs sleep.

Slowly, giving himself time to stretch, Edgar stands. He sees Ryuunosuke tense, standing to follow as Edgar makes his way to the one supply closet he'd bothered to fill. He takes two blankets—the boy seems like he gets cold easily—even if he’s not entirely sure why his sponsor had left them in the first place.

Shrugging off the thought, Edgar makes his way back to the couch, tossing the blankets onto the further end and picking up the book on his nightstand.

“At least sit on the couch,” he says, flipping through the pages and trying to remember where he’d left off. (Karl always runs off with his bookmarks.)

Out of the corner of his eye, Edgar sees Ryuunosuke step towards the couch, glaring at the blankets sprawled across the seat as though they’d personally offended him. Still, glancing back at Edgar suspiciously, he sits, lifting the blankets just enough to cover his legs. Edgar keeps reading, letting Ryuunosuke stare at him even if it’s more than a bit awkward. They’re silent for about ten minutes before he asks the question Edgar knows has been burning on his tongue for hours.

“Why?”

Edgar closes the book, keeping his thumb in between the pages. “Why not?”

The boy scoffs, looking towards the window, and then his glare is back on Edgar, “We don’t need you. We’re fine on our own.”

“I could take you back,” Edgar offers, and Ryuunosuke freezes. Quickly, he tries again, “That’s not a threat. It’s genuine. I’d rather not have any of you feel like I’m keeping you hostage—while I’m not keen on sending children off on their own, I’ll take you back if you really want to.”

“We’re not kids,” Ryuunosuke hisses, making Edgar frown.

“You’re like– a freshman at best. Thirteen?”

“Fourteen.”

“Fourteen,” Edgar sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose. Fourteen is a weird age. You’re not quite a teenager, even though you’ve technically been one for a year, but not really a kid either. He certainly wouldn’t want to be fourteen again. He pivots, “Do you want to use your ability on me?”

There’s a brief silence, and Ryuunosuke stares at him like he’s an idiot. Rude. “You want me to stab you?”

“No,” Edgar rolls his eyes, even if Ryuunosuke can’t see them past his fringe. “Your ability is good for more than stabbing, isn’t it? You were using it to hold onto Gin before.”

Ryuunosuke narrows his eyes, “And why would I do that?”

Edgar could explain that doing so would give Ryuunosuke some semblance of control, make him relax a bit, and maybe let him fall asleep if he knew Edgar literally couldn’t go anywhere, but he’s fairly certain a response like that would just make things worse. Instead, he shrugs. “You don’t have to. Just a suggestion.”

He seems to take it at that, to Edgar’s surprise, “Why do you cover your face?”

“My eyes are sensitive to light,” Edgar responds easily, “But you know that.”

“I should use that against you,” Ryuunosuke says, clearly intending to sound threatening but only succeeding in making Edgar grin. 

“Sure. Do you remember that I’m also afraid of heights and I don’t do well in crowded places?”

“Do not make fun of me,” Ryuunosuke hisses.

“Think of it as a peace offering,” Edgar tilts his head. It’s weird having a conversation without Karl on his shoulders (and a conversation that he’s pretty sure they’ve already had at that), but he’s pretty sure the other kids trapped Karl in Edgar’s room with them when they went to sleep. Still, talking to kids has always been easier than talking to adults. Open hostility he can deal with—silent judgement not so much. “You can use that against me if you need to.”

Anyway they eventually go back to america and they all join the Guild together aslkjadlj so Fitzgerald shows up intending to recruit Edgar and gets seven overprotective teenagers as a bonus (akutagawa is particularly interested in poe's revenge plot, and the kids all try to help poe with his novel lmao)

Idk this all spawned bc I realized akutagawa met dazai at the same time poe lost the competition and I was like....... well. details are subject to change but this is what im planning on so far

Asher's softly sobbing after his arm got fixed and in a sling, and David isn't mad at him or grouchy... he looks worried? Concerned. David didn't comprehend the concept of death at that young age but in the moment where he saw Asher wailing and screaming on the ground with his arm looking... unnatural, scarily bent, blood pooling beneath it, he assumed the worst. And it hit him, what if that was death? And... if it happened to Asher? It mentally broke him, and in the aftermath David wouldn't leave Asher's side, always watching. Making sure Asher didn't slip away when he wasn't looking, making sure Asher was still with him.

Asher noticed the change in David instantly. He knows his best friend like the back of his hand. He knows all too well how easily he gets under David's skin, so to see his usually grouchy buddy so... soft? Always around Asher, holding his hand, helping him up and down stairs, even helping him eat anytime they had a meal together... Asher felt something more than friendship. His heart swelled... but he couldn't name this feeling. Oh, it's probably just super friendship! Yeah... like we're soul buddies! I don't want him to stop being this way around me...

After Gabe's post mortum, the Shaw Pack was inconsolable. Especially David, who'd now lost both parents and had the responsibility of being pack alpha imminently upon his shoulders. It broke everyone to hear about the passing of their beloved alpha, but for Asher... he couldn't stop worrying about David. How could he cope? How could he function? How lonely must he feel... and how sick with worry Asher felt at the thought. His thoughts were consumed my David, and it reached a point where he couldn't bare to spend time away from him. Asher swore he would always be by David's side, cos that's what soul buddies do, right? At night, he would hold David as he wept in only Asher's arms, then put a reassuring hand on David's shoulder during the day as David mustered up what little energy he had to tend to the pack and deal with the funeral arrangements. Asher could only watch with pained eyes as David struggled with all the duties he and Frank would soldier through, noting every laboured exhale his best friend shuddered out.

Asher noticed a lot of painful behaviours in David in the days after Gabe's death... but one struck him hard. Not out of worry, but instead with how his heart would swell. David became clingy. Which for David was incredibly difficult to decipher and point out. But Asher noticed. As he had always done, as he had always noticed whenever David's behaviour changed. Whenever it changed towards Ash.

Lingering touches. Hugs that lasted too long. Brushes of his hand against Asher's arm. Leaning into Asher's reassuring and grounding touch. Small nuzzles when crying into Asher's chest and shoulders when the pain of his father's death hit hardest, particularly in the lonely nights where he would have to sleep in his family's apartment alone. One night, David couldn't handle it. He needed Asher. One short call later, Asher had packed his bags and decided to move into the Shaw apartment for David. For his soul buddy. During the night, with Asher cradling David in his arms as he rambled about the funeral to come in the following days, David felt content. For the first time in the days that felt like years after Gabe's passing, being in Asher's arms felt like home. He finally felt warm again. Whole again. All it took was a sharp gulp and a yearning, tear-stained look at Asher for Ash to realise the feeling from his best friend in front of him. Asher cupped David's face and stroked his cheek, I'm always here for you David, and David choked up before breaking into a smile. A small one, but his first smile in... too long. He's smiling... I made him smile. Asher couldn't contain the surge of emotion any longer, it had remained dormant since he broke his arm. The unrequited yearning, the naive hoping, maybe this was the moment-

Thank you, Ash. For always being the one stable force in my life. David, smiling as a tear trails down his cheek, leans in to peck a kiss on Asher's cheek. And Asher freezes, his cheeks turning a soft pink. David stares, his heart skipping a beat, worried he'd been too bold, if this was stupid, if he fucked up, if he'd lose asher too-

Until Asher tilted his head and kissed David, closing his eyes and smiling into the kiss, cupping David's face as David brought his hand to Asher's head and held it before breaking apart. Foreheads touching, they stared into each other's eyes and smiled, before Asher broke into a giggle and David followed suit.

omg this is so funny and also i’m very sorry

so the outsiders is originally a book published in 1967 by s.e. hinton. it was then turned into a movie in the ’80s that starred a lot of people who are now considered household names (rob lowe, patrick swayze, tom cruise, etc).

there was also a short-lived tv show but i haven’t seen it and apparently it wasn’t well received so we don’t talk about that

now, however, it’s also become a musical!! it’s been in the works for years (got delayed by the pandemic) and eventually had its premiere in early 2023 at la jolla playhouse in california. it transferred to broadway and opened in spring 2024 and is still currently running. it won lots of tony awards including best musical! so it’s become extremely popular and has a huge online fanbase.

i will let you look up more about the plot if you want to, but it deals with themes of classism, masculinity, gang violence, chosen family, personal vs. collective identity, domestic violence, and race (this is only present in the musical—everyone is white in the book/movie)

the world this tale takes place in Kirroóki was made by the god of hope Xih Xiu (might change that name) a stray star who wanted to be more than one thing it wanted to be an artist,a destroyer,a parent, a giver, a taker it wanted to be everything so it wondered and fell in love with the goddess of the earth and made new gods and eventually made humans beings just like it who wanted nothing more but create and it fell in love them and thus the starlings were born demigods with the power of the stars itself and they got along well with the humans at first but then something changed they got arrogant,cocky they thought they were the ones meant to rule and no one else Xih Xiu tried to stop them but in the end it's efforts were in vain as it was slaughtered by its own children leaving nothing but a husk of what it used to be and the other gods as a result loathed humanity and eventually stopped answering the prayers of so many for they did not want to end like Xih Xiu a corpse with immortality

But Xih Xiu didn't die for no one can truly kill a god Xih Xiu just wondered around not knowing what it was but it knew it had one purpose to create and that's exactly what it did one night a night filled with carnage and tragedy it saw one being a human filled with so much sorrow,anger and jealousy but also full of hope buried deep inside and Xih Xiu knew that this specimen couldn't go to waste so once this human died it gave them a new life and a new body a body of a harpy with a heart which would not beat and thus The Harpy Messenger was born and with the hatred still Zimmering where their heart used to be took its anger out on human the only thing that made their heart beat that made them feel alive even if for a second but now gods and humans have something in common a common enemy a young stupid god who doesn't follow the rules or know their own strength

initially waning crescent (ithaqua) was dead, but the case was weird because it was like he was in two places at one time and acting funny etc. i thought at first that maybe the dead one would be his twin brother which mirrors ithaqua's og story where he murdered nathaniel, but it was actually the other way around - helios (nathaniel) killed waning crescent, so he has the lions share of the lines for them. nathaniel's just a very nothing character so i didn't expect anything and i thought it was funny that he played an actual role in the story lmfao

37. your clan's most difficult moment in history Each tab in my lair has different lore which can be kinda confusing, whoops.. For the Eternal Deep, the initial forming of the clan was the hardest in terms of carving out their territory and fighting off waves of intruders who tried to wipe them out. The few years after they were established enough to survive without constant conflict were marred by the lack of supplies coming in due to their enemies essentially cutting off all possible forms of trade both outgoing and incoming to the territory, so they have had to survive off of the ruins of the fallen kingdom they have come to inhabit. Due to this the residents of the Eternal Deep have created alternative trade routes with smaller groups that are hidden away from the eyes of their enemies, though this is still not enough to create the flourishing clan they hoped to form. TLDR: The initial formation of the clan and subsequent few years afterwards!

Constantly checking in to make sure you’re comfortable 

Tries really hard not to laugh when he uses bags of frozen vegetables as cold compress on your cheeks. Says you look like a cute puffer fish 

Keeps forgetting you shouldn’t talk for the first 24 hours but then gets mad when you try answering him when he asks you something 

Is really excited for the next couple of days when you can eat more solid foods. He’s been meaning to make you a special fish soup he discovered on one of his exhibitions abroad 

Drew a tiny sketch of you as a sleeping puffer fish during your nap

Would literally fan you if you felt too hot 

Loses kitty cards on purpose

Easily the most equipped to take care of you in this situation let’s be fr. He’s firm, yet gentle and your downtime is quick and painless.

Has you on a tight schedule: nap, rinse, gauze, meds, nap, rinse, eat, gauze, repeat

You don’t even bother trying to speak. He already had a white board and marker placed on your nightstand when you got home from surgery

Has you pick whatever drama you want to watch when you finally slept off the anesthesia 

Is even more lenient with the amount of sweets you can have since smoothies are the only “healthy” meal you can eat right after surgery 

Is really all cuddles outside of the strict routine of dressing your wounds/taking meds

Still brought you flowers and a “Get well soon” card, despite the fact that he’s the one taking care of you 

Thinks you look especially cute with swollen cheeks and surrounded your sleeping form with plushies mid nap
