Can't Call You A Stranger
Ahh! It's been 84 years (two calendar months) but I'm finally sharing my full piece from the Under The Ethersea zine! Please check out the full zine; there is so much wonderful art by some amazing people and dear friends of mine. It is now available to download for free!
"Well, I did have that, um, mixer. At the— At the headquarters, and I invited you. You did not come, but I—" "I thought we attended, if memory serves." "But I made a— a dip." AKA what happens when you overthink a one-off bit and end up making everyone cry.
Word count: 5,092
Ship: Oksamber
Warnings: Threats of violence (for about two sentences and then it becomes silly), Canon-typical Amber and Devo interaction, Discussion of betrayal of trust.
—
As soon as they arrived at the mixer, Amber realized it had been a terrible idea to attend. The room was less crowded than she had expected, but full of people way fancier than they had any right to be, in her opinion. The Chaperones’ headquarters were like a love letter to everything the shoreside community had thought Founders’ Wake would be: all thick metal panel walls, visibly re-outfitted and shaped to fit together from old military type submarine hulls. Large patches of steel bolted and welded in place, polished to a respectable shine, lined the room and made up the floor, the walls, and the ceiling —maybe seven or eight feet tall—. The chamber itself had easily two or three times the floor space of the Cloaca, and there were a bunch of those tall little tables scattered around for people to congregate and, well, mix. The drink service was set up along one of the walls, sharing a corner with the snacks (finger sandwiches, assorted pastries, some fancy stuff. Amber, on the other hand, had snuck in a flask full of skunknuts wine). On the other side of the room were two simple metal doors with signs that indicated they led to single-stall bathrooms.

Don't Overthink It
KICKS DOWN DOOR. LISTEN IT'S TECHNICALLY STILL TAZ SAPPHIC WEEK. @tazsapphicweek
70% of this fic is fr 3 years old. what the fuck. I have finally freed it from wip superhell go my scarab
2023 prompt - Bake 2024 prompt - Learn 2025 prompt - Home
Word count: 3,453
Ship: Lupcretia
Warnings: Dubcon kissing if you squint but it's not dubious for long lmao
---
“Are you sure you’ve made meringue before?” Lup is looking over Lucretia’s shoulder as they each beat their own bowl of egg whites, sugar and cream of tartar in the kitchen aboard the Starblaster. Lup’s is beginning to peak beautifully as she slows her pace, while Lucretia is just about managing to keep the still lumpy, inconsistently-textured stuff in the bowl. She stops in her tracks and eyes both mixtures.
“Well, I uh- said I knew how to make it… it’s just…”
Lup’s face breaks into a wide, knowing smile, and she rolls her eyes. “You cannot be serious.”

Brush Off Your Weight In Gold
Commission for Eliot aka @yardsards aka our kind and benevolent (sus) DM! Massive thanks to them for making me insane about The Characters. This was supposed to be a silly short commission but it VERY QUICKLY got out of hand. Oops. They are besties. To me<3
Word count: 2,068
Fandom: Rapture's Return (D&D Campaign)
Relationship: Dante & Princeton (platonic)
Warnings: Implied/referenced child abuse, Mentions of bleeding out (but it's a silly joke), Aftereffects of dehumanization trauma
---
Princeton only noticed he had somehow let his hair grow too long for comfort when the end of one of the longer hairs poked him right in the eye: it was sharp, it hurt like a bitch, and when he brushed it out of his face to lay back down to rest, he noticed just how long and… golden it was getting.
When was the last time he had cut it? He must have forgotten, with all the traveling and the insane tales of demons trapped beneath the earth and the new friends to protect. Somehow, he had let almost a whole month pass without trimming it, and now it was getting in his eyes. And, suddenly, the weight of it on top of his head was making him very uncomfortable.

Waah here it is! I finally get to show you a sneak peak of my piece for the @taz-balance-zine!!! I am so so happy to have been able to be part of this project, and so excited for everyone to be able to see it! I am very proud of this one, so please look forward to release day!
Plaintext for easier reading:
It was a tricky thing, dying in so many realities. Lucretia could count at the very least five off the top of her head. If she started thinking too hard about it, about the more… ontological aspects, it made her head hurt; the nature of the soul was not something she was ever interested in or prepared to analyze in depth. Where it goes after death, however, had taken on a much more practical application to all of them during the century. Something not many people ever have the chance to think of is the fate of souls across the planescape. When you travel from one planar system to another, just as the Prime Material Plane is shaped and populated in infinitely dissimilar ways, the same is true of the Astral Plane. The “disembodied spirit” thing was not new, but it did raise the question of what awaited her beyond the shroud. She remained sat down, thinking about all the possibilities, about what her previous deaths had brought. About the one time she almost faded into non-existence. “Has anyone ever told you you’re the world’s most boring ghost?”

Posted my commission info on main! Sharing it here too :]
Commision info!
Hi! I've never really done this before so apologies if I fumble a bit. I'm Lex (lexbiini on AO3) and I just graduated uni for creative writing. However, entry level employment opportunities in this field are... scarce (both for writing and copy editing). I am doing a ton of unpaid work rn and love every second of it, but unfortunately work experience doesn't really pay the bills by itself.
This is why I'm opening writing and editing/beta reading commissions!
SLOTS OPEN: Writing - 2 | Editing - 3
I will open five comm slots at a time for WRITING and EDITING
For writing:
Two slots at a time
One-shots only
$5 / 100 words
I'll write for any fandoms I've written for before (check my AO3 or my writing blog), as well as The Magnus Archives/Protocol, Good Omens, Heartstopper, all TAZ campaigns, Red Valley, Steven Universe, The Owl House, or mostly any other fandom you've seen me be insane about on this blog before
I am also willing to ghostwrite (being very loose with the term)/write short(...ish) pieces about your OCs! If you have the time and energy to come infodump at me about the blorbos from your brain, I am willing to listen and write about them!
I'll write most things (fluff, angst, character death, hurt/comfort, AU), but hard don'ts are NSFW, adult/minor or incest ships and excessive gore. I also reserve the right to just say no if a particular commission makes me uncomfortable.
Please DM me to reserve a slot and discuss your commission!
For editing and beta reading:
Three slots at a time
$2 / page (approx. 400 words counting with Times New Roman 12pt 1.5 space bc yes I am That Guy)
After 2,000 words $1 / page (So $10 for the first 2k and $1/page after that)
For editing and beta reading, fandom is less restrictive. Given, the less I know a fandom, the less characterization/story comments I can provide, but I will basically copy edit anything for spelling, grammar, syntax, story structure and formatting (I have a lot of fiction and nonfiction workshop experience!)
Again, please DM me to reserve a slot!
Payment through Ko-fi (and if you just wanna chuck a couple dollars at my getting out of my parents' house fund you can also do that there<3)
If you have any further questions about comms, feel free to dm me!

Pros of re-reading your own fic
a good time;
Has exactly the tropes you like and the characterization you want to read;
Gratification: yes you did finish a thing and yes you did do good;
just a very fun time all around.
Cons of re-reading your own fic:
Is that another TYpO
#YEAH. LITERALLY#me rereading all i wanted and tysk only to inevitably find another formatting error

Be proud of the dumb, little thing you wrote, just because you wanted to write a dumb, little thing. Your writing doesn't need to be serious and award-winning for you to be proud of it.

All I Wanted
@tazsapphicweek Day 7 - Prompt: "Past/Future". They had the beach, they had the uncertainty of what was next, they had each other… They had a whole new world that stretched out before and beneath them.
(I promised myself I would finish this fic for sapphic week 2024 if it was the last thing I did, and well. Here we are<3)
Word count: 3,519 (Chapter 3)
Ship: Oksamber - Amber Gris/Oksana (Ballaster Kodira)
Warnings: The bittersweetness of being (nearly) alone in the world (but it gets better)
Chapter 3: I Could Follow You To The Beginning Just To Relive The Start
It never quite stopped being a weird feeling, being just the two of them. The blink sharks offered some reprieve, of course, especially after they figured out a means of communication that worked for both parties, but it was not the same (especially since the sharks insisted on being all solemn and worship-y about it). There was always that stinging feeling of finality, of irreparability. They were a constant reminder of who Amber had been, and who she was now; and she could never stop feeling like those were two completely different, irreconcilable people.
She had started trying to build a small shack using the wood from the trees in the jungle, but picking up carpentry from scratch by herself was unsurprisingly a steep learning curve. That and hunting kept her busy, though, and that was the only thing that mattered. It was all Amber could do to will herself not to go completely insane.
Oksana seemed to have her own ways of keeping her head on her shoulders. She went on long walks across the shore, just looking at the sea, at the sky, at the ground beneath her feet. It was strangely soothing, watching her leave footprints on the sand that were washed away by the lapping waves now and again. Her skin gleamed softly in the sunlight, against the soft purple of the water, and she was all Amber would ever need to look at. If the sharks reminded her she could never be the same, Oksana brought her hope that the new her could be what this world needed. What she needed.
Amber didn’t press her about it for a while, assuming it was just one of those things people did. She reminded her of their time on the shoreside, before Founders’ Wake, when she used to walk for hours to gather resources for the community. Amber thought maybe she was looking for some plants they might be able to eat other than weird, tiny, three-pointed bananas —she did come back with something resembling kiwis one day. They were pretty good, if surprisingly nutty—. But one afternoon, Oksana finally showed her what it was she had been doing.

Stay Good Under Pressure: A Candlenights Exploration
Happy Candlenights, @yourbelgianthings! I'm your secret santa nyehehe. Hope you enjoy your hefty serving of Angus McDonald with a side of IPRE pain<3
This fic is loosely built around a line from the Mountain Goats' We Have Seen The Enemy (you know the one). I also tried to intersperse as much tmg as I could! (which ended up being not that much, sadly, but I think it hits) thank you for making me insane about this.
Word count: 3052
---
“Hey, guys, is something going on?”
Angus was sitting in the Director's office, on one of the seats across her desk, helping the reclaimer crew navigate the Millers’ rapidly crystalizing lab.
“Guys, is something wrong? I can't hear you anymore.”
It seemed yet another one of Lucas’s experiments was proving more trouble than it was worth. From the crackling, static-ridden other end, it seemed like they had angered a robot that was meant to be a learning tool for children — only the “artificial intelligence” had obviously gotten out of control. Lucretia could not believe this was the same man she had trusted with the safety of this entire world. With the safety of her family.
“I think there's something wrong with the stones!”
The line went quiet.
“Sirs?” Angus spoke into the stone of farspeech as he looked up at her, worry raw in his eyes the way only a kid’s can show.
Lucretia reached over the desk and took the stone from his hands, trying to channel brand new arcane power into it. “Boys? Is everything alright?”
Silence.
