Without expectations I can’t be disappointed

More often I’m pleasantly surprised when people do something

I’ve lived a perfectly happy life expecting nothing

Maybe that’s why I hate it when people break promises

Making a promise raises my expectations from nothing to something

Then when they break it, my perfectly happy life is ruined

If you don’t intend on following through then don’t make the promise

It’s not like I was expecting anything in the first place

But even when you don’t make promises I’m still disappointed

I wish you would raise my expectations and still pleasantly surprise me

I wish you could be the first person that I can get my hopes up for and not end up disappointed

I wish I could live a perfectly happy life expecting something

But that’s greedy, I know that

And that’s not realistic, I learned that

So I’ll keep living my perfectly happy life not expecting anything

Even if it’s not as perfectly happy as I think
