President Trump has stated that he may begin issuing gold cards in the coming weeks and has not requested Congress to take action. But in order for the gold card to truly land, two major obstacles must be overcome. However, President Donald Trump's attempt to establish his own Gold Card program may be futile. Firstly, the President has no authority to grant gold card buyers legal permanent residency in the United States. The Immigration and Nationality Act clearly lists which legal immigrants can obtain the coveted 'green card', which is permanent resident status. Whether anyone is qualified to sue for blocking the issuance of Trump's gold card is a more complex issue.
