Jax recognized Lola’s voice from across the street, even with the howling wind. Sucking in a breath, he darted over, interrupting before the soldier had an opportunity to make his girlfriend even ore frantic. “I’ll take care of this,” he dismissed the young soldier, who he could’ve sworn he heard swearing under their breath as they walked away. Jax placed his glove covered hands on Lola’s shoulders, his cheeks bright red from the wind stinging them. “You can’t go to the school, okay? The kids are fine, the entire school is being evacuated.”

Lola looked up when she saw Jax approaching, letting him dismiss the soldier before she threw her arms around him. ���I just want to make sure they’re okay!” She insisted, although when she said it to him, it sounded kind of silly. “I can’t let anything happen to them, Jax, not even something weather-related.”

Lola: better get moving, things are getting worse and worse every minute

Flynn: the foreman wasn't going to let us go until just now when the message came in! it's not entirely my fault

Lola: omg i hate that guy SO much

Lola: is my dad there with you?

Lola: yeah, I guess they're already in the school shelter.

Flynn: ugh our power ALWAYS goes out first

Flynn: i'm at work, i haven't left yet, i was going to wait it out

Flynn: but if your power is out, mine is probably gone too

Flynn: this is NOT how i wanted to spend my night

Lola: UGH Flynn, you need to go to a shelter

Lola: it's only gonna get worse before it gets better

Lola: almost the whole city is out, they weren't kidding about this storm

Selina: my power went out and I’m cold. I need someone to cuddle with 😩

Lola: aren't you on your way to a shelter??

Flynn: this seems like an over reaction.

Flynn: is it even a good idea to shove everyone into a shelter when the plague might be going around?

Flynn: seems risky to me

Lola: heat and power is already out in my house

Lola: so unless you wanna freeze to death, take the risk

“Please, I just want to go to the school and make sure they’re okay!” Lola was arguing with one of the soldiers, who was insisting that she proceed to the nearest shelter, rather than trying to get through the city to check on her siblings. She knew that the school had its own emergency weather shelter, and she didn’t care if she had to trek there in the snow, she needed to know they were all right.

Jax: i don't know

Jax: no, wait, i don't mean that

Lola: you don't want me to come to your stuff?

“Wait until the morning. If the fever comes back then, go to the clinic and see if they can give you something to break it that way. Other than that, the clinic won’t be able to do much for him.” The important part was monitoring the boy to make sure he didn’t get any worse. It seemed that he was in the midst of the worst part already, so hopefully the rest would be uphill from there. At Lola’s apology, Nadia bit her lip, her eyes landing anywhere but on the redhead. “I didn’t mean…I don’t want to tell you how to live your life. I know you’re not helpless, I just -” She drew in a breath, her green eyes falling on Teddy’s sweaty face again. “I don’t want to lose anyone. Not anyone else, at least. But I do care about how you feel. I don’t want to make you feel like you’re a kid I’m scolding.”

“All right, I can do that.” Lola nodded, she knew she’d be up all night no matter what, so she might as well be up looking after Teddy. She smiled weakly when Nadia seemed to accept her apology, and when she almost returned it. “Maybe we both need to try and listen to one another more.”

“Even if I did, I’d gladly walk around like a sleep deprived zombie if it was because I spent all night up with you.” He lifted his head, catching her lips before she could turn away. Jax wasn’t desperate anymore. Something about being with her, for real, having her entire body and heart to himself, made that sense of urgency fade away. “Come on. If we don’t get up now, we’re really going to end up missing the entire afternoon of work.”

“Good boy,” Lola smiled, kissing him back when he caught her lips. She couldn’t help but feel happy just to know that they were together, like in some kinda dream. She giggled as she got up, crossing the room to get some clean clothes out of the closet. “You’re the one who keeps delaying things! You gotta learn to resist me if we’re gonna make it to work today.”

Lola: do you have a problem with that?

Lola: maybe I do

Lola: ...i have not read it

Lola: but i want to go to the next one. tell your friends.

“Yes, a cold compress would be great. One for the back of his neck too - but keep him covered up, we don’t want his temperature to drop too low.” It was hard to look at Teddy, his small body laying still in the bed. Nadia forced herself to shoot him another smile before tearing her eyes away, her mind somewhere else. “No…no, I’ll always come. For them. For you. It doesn’t matter if - if we’re not friends anymore. I would never let that get in the way of helping you guys.”

Lola nodded, making mental notes of everything Nadia said. Teddy might not have the plague, but she knew the flu could still be lethal if not treated correctly. “Does he need any medicine? I can go to the clinic,” she volunteered, she would do anything to help him get better. She smiled at Nadia when she confirmed that she’d always help them. “Thank you, Nadia. I’m sorry I was so hard on you before... I know you were just trying to help.”

Jax propped himself up on an elbow, grinning devilishly as Lola laid out her plan for the evening. “Think they’ll get the hint without us having to tell them we’re official?” He sat up, brushing her hair aside to kiss her shoulder blade. “I’ll come right back, I just have to check on Atlas. Then I’m all yours for the night…and as long as you want me.”

“They will, but they’re gonna make us say it anyway.” She shrugged, it would be just like her siblings to play dumb until they made an official announcement. Lola leaned back into his kiss, sighing contentedly. “I’m gonna want you all night... I hope you don’t have anything important to do in the morning, because I’m keeping you up all. Night. Long.” She promised, turning towards him to press a kiss to his forehead.

Jax laughed against her lips, struggling to keep a sense of rationality about him. “We can’t skip,” he told her, tugging at her hair so he could gain access to her neck. He pressed a kiss on to her throat, smiling to himself. “But we can be late. And come right back here after we’re done getting our asses chewed out for not being on time.”

“You’re such a goodie goodie,” Lola groaned, pulling away from him. “We’re already late,” she pointed out, rolling off of him reluctantly. “You better come straight back here after work. I’ll make you dinner, and then we can set the kids to doing their homework while we...” she trailed off, giggling.

Jax: because meetings are only once a month

Jax: mmm we don't spend a lot of time reading together, we're usually busy making lunches :P

Jax: you want me to double check the name?

Lola: uh huh

Lola: well maybe we should.

Lola: yes please.

Nadia closed her eyes, holding back tears of relief. “If there’s no rash, then I think this is just the flu.” When she opened her eyes, she met Teddy’s eyes with a sympathetic smile. “We just need to keep him hydrated and get the fever to break. As long as he doesn’t develop the rash in the next day, I wouldn’t be too worried.” She pulled Teddy’s sleeve back down, raising her eyes to meet Lola’s. “He’s going to be okay. Thanks for…Thanks for calling me at least. For not waiting.”

Lola exhaled her relief, closing her eyes for a moment and thanking anyone who was listening. “I’ve been giving him lots of water,” she told her, feeling relieved. “But I’ll make him some soup, too. Should we use cold compresses? I’ve been having the kids make them out of snow, just in case.” She told her, meeting Nadia’s gaze. “Thank you for coming. After... after what I said... I wasn’t sure you’d want to come.”
