A Complete Guide to Sublimating Your Own T-Shirt Designs
Sublimation is a popular and creative way to personalize t-shirts with custom designs. It allows you to transfer vibrant, long-lasting images onto fabric. In this blog post, we'll walk you through the process of sublimating a t-shirt step by step.
Materials You'll Need:
Sublimation printer
Sublimation ink
Heat-resistant tape
Sublimation paper
Blank white polyester t-shirt
Heat press machine
Protective paper
Scissors
Step 1: Design Your Image
Create or choose your design using graphic design software, like Canva and Cricut Design Space. Ensure that it's the right size and format for sublimation.
Step 2: Print Your Design
Load sublimation ink into your printer and print your design onto sublimation paper. Make sure to use a mirror image of your design.
Step 3: Prepare Your T-shirt
Place the blank white polyester t-shirt on a flat and clean surface. It's essential to use a polyester t-shirt, as sublimation works best on polyester fabrics.
Step 4: Secure Your Design
Position the printed sublimation paper with the design facing down onto the t-shirt. Secure it in place with heat-resistant tape.
Step 5: Preheat the Heat Press
Turn on your heat press machine and set it to the appropriate temperature and time settings for sublimation. Refer to the instructions provided with your heat press for the exact settings.
Step 6: Press Your T-shirt
Lay a sheet of protective paper on the bottom platen of the heat press. Place your t-shirt with the secured design on top. Cover it with another sheet of protective paper.
Step 7: Apply Pressure and Heat
Close the heat press and apply firm, even pressure for the specified time. The heat and pressure will cause the sublimation ink to turn into a gas and penetrate the polyester fibers of the shirt, creating a permanent bond.
Step 8: Remove the T-shirt
Once the timer is up, carefully open the heat press and remove the t-shirt. Be cautious, as it will be hot. Allow it to cool down.
Step 9: Peel Off the Paper
After your t-shirt has cooled, peel off the sublimation paper. Your custom design should now be vividly transferred onto the fabric.
Step 10: Final Touches
Give your t-shirt a quick once-over to ensure the design is crisp and vibrant. If needed, trim any excess paper or tape remnants with scissors.
Sublimating your own t-shirt is a fun and creative way to showcase your designs or create personalized gifts. With the right materials and a bit of practice, you can produce professional-quality, customized t-shirts that stand out. Remember to follow the instructions carefully and experiment to achieve the best results for your unique designs. Enjoy your newly sublimated t-shirt!

In celebration of Black History Month, I was curious to find out who the famous Black jewelry makers were. I found Art Smith - The First African American Jewelry Designer.
PEOPLE YOU SHOULD KNOW. ART SMITH. THE FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN JEWELRY DESIGNER.
~per Superselected.com~
Art Smith was an iconic New York City based Jewelry designer whose list of clientele included Vogue Magazine, Duke Ellington, Lena Horne and Eleanor Roosevelt.
Art Smith was born to Jamaican parents in Cuba in 1917. In 1920 His family moved to Brooklyn, New York. As an adult, Smith settled in the West Village neighborhood of New York City in Manhattan, which would become his permanent home and studio location. He opened his own jewelry shop on Cornelia Street in the neighborhood in 1946 and quickly became a fixture in the downtown arts scene. His expertly designed, post-modern pieces were a “must have” among the artistic elite of New York City.

Who Was Josephine Baker?
Born Freda Josephine McDonald on June 3, 1906, in St. Louis, Missouri, Josephine Baker spent her youth in poverty before learning to dance and finding success on Broadway. In the 1920s she moved to France and soon became one of Europe's most popular and highest-paid performers. She worked for the French Resistance during World War II, and during the 1950s and '60s devoted herself to fighting segregation and racism in the United States. After beginning her comeback to the stage in 1973, Josephine Baker died of a cerebral hemorrhage on April 12, 1975, and was buried with military honors.
There's so much more for you to learn about Josephine Baker. Did you know that she adopted 12 children from around the world? They were known as her Rainbow Tribe. Did you know she marched with Martin Luther King Jr. at the March on Washington and was one of the powerful speakers?
Go to www.biography.com to learn more.

Today is the start of Black History Month. What better way to start it off with the Greensboro Four. Take time out of your day to learn a little more.
.
On February 1, 1960, David Richmond, Franklin McCain, Ezell Blair Jr. (Jibreel Khazan), and Joe McNeil, four African American students from North Carolina A&T State University, staged a sit-in in Greensboro at Woolworth, a popular retail store that was known for refusing to serve African Americans at its lunch counter. Not long after their protest, sit-ins began occurring across the South, including the North Carolina cities of Charlotte, Durham, and Winston-Salem. These young men came to be known as the Greensboro Four.
