Sleeper’s eyes are half-lidded, their body slack, half-dozing. Cue the tingling, buzzing sensation crawling up their limbs. Pressure on their chest. Shadow leaking into the room like a curious fog.]

Void (coalescing beside them, voice close to their ear): “What are we watching?”

Sleeper (groggy): “I… am watching Soccer Days. It’s an anime about soccer.”

Void (settles beside them like smoke in a blanket, watching the screen in silence for a moment):“…This is not about soccer.”

Sleeper (offended): “What do you mean it’s not about soccer?! It totally is!”

Void (pointing with a tendril): “That boy just said: ‘I’ll devour you until you have no ego left.’ While panting. With sparkles in his eyes.”

Sleeper (blank stare, then rewinds the scene):“…Okay but it’s metaphorical—”

Void: “This entire sport is one prolonged mating ritual. Look at the eye contact. Look at the sweat.”

Sleeper (groaning, pulling a pillow over their face): “I was just trying to relax, Void.”

Void (settling against them): “You chose wrong. This is tension with a ball. Also, he just said: ‘I want to break you until you become mine.’ That’s courtship.

I’ve been really depressed and can’t get into writing angst recently hence why meet the eights is on hold (again). But it’s hard to be depressed when you’re singing old MacDonald had a farm. Now, I pause the song and let my child decide what is on the farm and go from there. This has invented some very unique experiences for Old Macdonald, so here’s a comprehensive list of what old MacDonald had on his farm according to my two-year-old;

2:47 AM. The apartment is dark. The only light: the fridge cracked open. The sleeper shuffles in, eyes half-lidded, brain at 6%.

Sleeper (groggy): “Void… I know I’m sleep walking because of you. What are you doing?”

[They step in something wet. Sticky. Cold.]

Sleeper (looking down, horrified): “Wha—”

Void (materializing in the fridge like a cryptid at a rave): “DOCTOR. PEPPER.”

Sleeper (squinting): “Void… you can’t drink. You don’t have a mouth.”

Void (reverently swirling a half-empty can with shadow tendrils): “And yet I taste.”

Sleeper: “You spilled six cans.”

Void: “A small price for ecstasy.”

Sleeper (wiping their foot on a towel): “There is soda in my arch.”

Void (floating dramatically): “There is soda in my *soul.”

Sleeper (*turning around*): “I’m going back to bed. Don’t haunt my fridge.”

Void (quietly, as the fridge door closes): “What if the fridge haunts me…?”
