Sonic Is Still A Teenager
So in a previous post I talked about how the Sonic characters while no longer having canon ages are all still intended to be teenagers and kids, with some exceptions like Vanilla and Vector.
Now a few people have tried to claim this is not the case with some flimsy reasoning, but it would be useful if I had 100% out of the horse's mouth evidence that Sonic is still meant to be a teen..... Well in Sonic Frontiers 123 Rapid-Fire Questions With Takashi Iizuka at 5:04 Iizuka outright says Sonic is still a teenager in the games like Sonic Frontiers.
So Sonic is still indeed a teenager and by extension the rest of the cast of characters such as Shadow and Rouge are also teenagers, and some like Tails and Cream being kids. Written by Eris

Does Sonic Let Eggman Get Away + Have A No Kill Rule
So there is this idea that Sonic is like a superhero who let's his villains get away such as Eggman. Or even has a no kill rule like Batman, Spider-Man, Wonder Woman, or Superman. So is this the case? Well let's take a look at the games.
As far back as Sonic The Hedgehog 1 when Eggman is making his get away you are able to stop him by breaking the Egg Mobile and causing him to crash. This is something Sonic does all the time to a fleeing Eggman. In Sonic CD's Bad Ending(canon or not it's a depiction of what Sonic would do), Sonic throws a rock to prevent Eggman from getting away. In Sonic The Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles in both the normal and true ending he chase Eggman down not letting him get away. In Sonic Triple Trouble Sonic chases a fleeing Eggman down and bops him, forcing him to drop an Emerald and fall down. In Sonic Adventure he chases down Eggman, trying to prevent him from getting away after a fight. In Sonic Lost World he steals Eggman's exhaust pipe from his jetpack leaving him to fall down from the lost hex. All this to say Sonic does not let Eggman get away, and will often chase the egghead down.
No some might ask why doesn't Sonic put Eggman in prison? Sonic ain't no cop.
But now for the No Kill Rule? Does Sonic have one? Well first I would like to establish something. Sonic's world is a world where things like black holes don't function like they do in real life. But there is still physics and rules, characters can get hurt by spikes, Sonic can get caught off guard, nobody is invincible.
So when it comes to rules, a little bit of information I've noticed is that a direct fall from space can result in a character's death, no matter how durably they are. In Sonic Adventure 2 Amy, Sonic, Eggman, and Tails all treated Sonic's fall from space like it would actually kill him. Sonic only get lucky and was able to use Chaos Control to save him. The same goes for when all the characters were mourning Shadow, as they believe he died after falling down to the Earth from space. Yes Shadow did survive whether it be because he got lucky or it having to do with him being the Ultimate Lifeform, the everyone else all thought he died. A direct fall from space overall is treated a dangerous for all the Sonic characters whether they have special abilities or not, and they always need something to break their fall. For example, Tails rescuing Sonic with the Tornado, Sonic grabbing Vanilla, or Chip stopping Sonic mid air to prevent a direct fall. So why am I bringing this up? Well......
Countless times Sonic has let Eggman fall from space after destroying his mechs and the Egg Mobile, showing a lack of care whether or not Eggman survives. Remember Eggman is a human with no powers. We also can't forget the countless times Sonic blew the Death Egg with Eggman still inside, or didn't care if he was still inside. As in if Sonic cared he would have either made sure Eggman escaped or helped get Eggman out himself.
Next is some stuff I brought up in a previous post which is Sonic has been shown to have no problem with killing if he needs to. In the case of King Arthur he has no problem with killing him, yeah he was an illusion but Sonic did not know this. I also mentioned Sonic would have had to kill the Black Arms in order to protect the Earth, or at least kill them by letting them starve. Well something to note is in a post I made on Tails telling Shadow to kill the Black Arms. Now someone who reblogged this post stated mentioned something they called the brother paradox. Basically if Tails was okay with outright killing the Black Arms, then Sonic would have been as well, at least that's what I got from it.
All that to say Sonic does not have a no kill rule as if he were a superhero, which makes sense as Sonic does what he wants and doesn't care about heroism; he only simply ends up in the role of a hero more often than not. Now this isn't to say Sonic is the Punisher, but simply he doesn't have a no kill rule. A character not having a no kill rule doesn't automatically make them the Punisher. Simply Sonic is okay with doing what needs to be done to deal with a major threat like the Black Arms, and has doesn't care if Eggman turns out okay or not when his machines explode. Written by Eris

Sonic Knows Eggman Will Never Change Part 2
Part 1
So in the first part I talked about the game version of Sonic knows Eggman will never change, and I found another example in Sonic Colors.
In Sonic Colors Eggman claims to have built the amusement park out of remorse for his past actions, and that he has no evil plots. Sonic remarks sarcastically "that's a relief," making it clear he knows Eggman change is "as possible as chili dogs raining from the sky." Written by Eris

Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games Is Canon
So you may be wondering is Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games canon? And if so how does it work, both of Sonic's and Mario's World aren't compatible with each other. Well........
So in Sonic X Shadow Takeover - All Answers (+ Bonus!) at 2:13 Sonic references the Shadow having danced at the Olympic games. Now this is noteworthy because the voice actors are guided on how they should act in character and stuff they can and cannot say. With a lot of what they say reflecting how things the characters have done before and things they like. For example Shadow liking coffee.
But there is more than just that, in a previous post I pointed out that Sticks was referenced on page 271 of the Sonic The Hedgehog Encyclo-Speed-Ia it was stated Sticks' debut outside of Sonic Boom was Mario & Sonic At The Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Which make sense to say because Sonic Boom isn't canon. But also, the Everything Is Canon line is used which we see used elsewhere in the book whenever canonicity is being talked about. For example Knuckles Chaotix. Also, I believe most of the mangas are supposed to be canon as well.
But most importantly is in Sonic Frontiers 123 Rapid-Fire Questions With Takashi Iizuka at 0:04 we get some comments from Iizuka about the Olympic games. When answering questions about things like Sonic meeting Mario for the first time and the first meeting, it is never treated as if the games aren't canon. All that to say the Olympic games are canon, but now for the finer details.
So you may be wondering how are the 2 interacting. Well in the Mario games it has been established Mario visits a place fans have dubbed Tour Earth and often hops around other dimensions. We see characters like Wario uses dimensional travel to invade of places as well. This is also the case for Sonic as seen many times in several pieces of media, like in the Sonic & DC Crossover Comic and the Angry Birds and Sonic Crossover. This is also how games like Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and Sonic Crossworlds are even possible. Note the Spongebob in Crossworlds is likely no the Spongebob because of the size. Dimensional travel is actually the explanation for the Olympic games are possible. As stated in Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, the contenders are "from the world of Mario & Sonic."
Now some people wonder how can Sonic still be a teen and Mario not be super old if the Olympic Games is canon? Well my best assumption is time in Sonic and Mario's worlds just run much slower compared to the Earth that they visit. The is sorta precedent for this given Tour Earth seems to go through time pretty fast.
Now if you are wondering about the oddness in heights for Sonic and Mario; well as I discussed in a previous post, Sonic and friends likely ate Super Mushrooms.
Now how about Mario? Is it the Mario? More than likely. So as you should know, in the games it's intended to always be the same Mario with few exceptions. One being Smash Bros. because everyone is toys in the real world in that. Some games that had no direct involvement in even the slightest such as Mario Is Missing and Mario's Time Machine. And the Mario + Rabbids games which is a separate continuity made after this claim of always being the same Mario in the games.
Well how about the way the characters are depicted? Are depicted in ways that don't match up with their game depictions? Well not to my knowledge, in fact the characters are depicted exactly like they are in their games. Wario and Waluigi are not related, Shadow is stated to be immortal, and Sonic needs a life preserver because he can't swim.
Well why doesn't Sonic just win all the competitions with ease? Well this is simple, first off Mario while not able to run at supersonic speeds is pretty athletic. Mario has been on many adventures and partaken in many sports himself, don't let his appearance fool you he is no pushover. As for Sonic, well we just need to look to why Sonic uses cars to race. Sonic likes the competition and also like to make things a fair race. So in the Olympic games Sonic, and let's be honest most of Sonic's friends; all likely slow down in the racing events to give everyone a fair chance.
Also, if you are wondering about Bowser see the following post.
Now one final thing to note is in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Banjo and Kazooie crossover and race with Sonic. This is noteworthy because Banjo shares a world with Mario as established in Diddy Kong Racing.
And that's how the Olympic games are possible for both characters. Written by Eris.

Why Sonic Races In A Car
So many people wonder why Sonic races in a car, and find it odd. Whether it be in Sonic Drift, Sonic Team Racing, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, and Sonic Crossworlds. But the thing games like Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and Sonic Crossworlds are canon games via dimensional travel, same goes for the other racing games so there has to be an answer.
Well we have been given an answer a long time ago in in All-Star Racing's Sonic Bio. It states that Sonic uses a car to make it a fair race. In meanwhile in Sonic Frontiers 123 Rapid-Fire Questions With Takashi Iizuka at 0:30, Iizuka gave us another reason in the form of Sonic also simply likes the competition and enjoys driving.
So yeah, that's why Sonic uses a car to race. Written by Eris

Is Roboticization Canon To The Games?
Short answer no, but time for the long answer.
So first off I want to establish roboticization was added to the Sonic Satam as their version of placing a little animal in a Badnik. But the difference is, it was a conversion of flesh into metal.
Now some people think it was made canon through Tails in Sonic Lost World and Sonic Prime. But the problem with this is what we see in these isn't roboticization. In the case of Tails all it was, was an outer shell meant to control him and not a conversion of flesh into metal. In the case of Rusty Rose we don't know anything nor is it roboticization ever directly referenced. At most this is likely a cyborg situation. But also both cases don't resemble roboticized characters outside of maybe what we see in Archie, but again the lack of conversion.
The closest we have gotten to roboticization was in a Sonic Forces promo where they mention a thing called robotomy. But aside from this promo not being canon, it is simply showing what appears to be the basic placement of animals in Badniks regardless.
So no, roboticization is not canon to the games. Written by Eris

On The Contested Canonicity Of The IDW Comics
So the IDW comics were called canon in Sonic Official - Season 7 Episode 7 at 15:58 officially. But it's canonicity is contested by the fans, why may question why this is? Wellll......
The IDW Comic's canonicity is contested by many as the comics have many very conflicting depictions of the Sonic characters, as well as somethings simply not making sense. For example, Sonic being mischaracterized, Eggman's potential to change, possibly Metal Sonic, Shadow getting infected, and everything Silver fans talk about.
Such contesting is done to many other pieces of Sonic media that are called canon such as Sonic Prime, Sonic Speed Sim, and ones on the timeline such as Sonic The Hedgehog 4. Many people view the additions of the pieces of media as haphazardly added on as a means of marketing the canon, without a regard on consistency that which they add as canon. Note this bit commentary and note whether or not I agree with the contesting of STH4 as an example. So people view such statements of canonicity as not as strong as other statements like that of Knuckle's Chaotix being canon, because they seem to only exist for marketing reasons.
On this, original the IDW Comics were merely inspired by the games and were a what if this happened after the events of Sonic Forces. That it wasn't supposed to be the direct or canon continuation of the games. Which as that the inconsistencies do make some sense, because they weren't trying to be canon in the first place. But now they have apparently been made canon.
So... As we know characters like Starline and Tangle have been named dropped before making those characters canon. So how can people view this. Welllll......
Fully canon, you can view the events of comics as fully canon and try to harmonize the inconsistencies that were written when it wasn't intended to be canon.
Half canon/parallel, a way for people who contest the IDW Comics canonicity is to view it how the FNAF Books are to the game continuity. That the many of the events of the comics did happen and characters like Starline and Tangle do exist in the the games. But the events of said comics didn't play out exactly as they did in the games, and characters like Sonic acted more like how they do in the games.
(more like 2.5) The comics happen are canon, but only the earlier comics that were written when they weren't canon are only partially canon. That the earlier half happened but play out differently in the games, and the later half are more fateful. A Psuedo-Harmonization if you will.
Which of these 3 potential ways of viewing the comics to I subscribes to? Well it's.................................... and that's the one I subscribe to. =) Written by Eris

Dark Sonic Is Not Stronger Than Super Sonic
So a common belief I've seen online is the belief that the Dark Sonic form from Sonic X is stronger than Super Sonic. This mostly seems to stem from it being a dark form and mostly it. But Dark Sonic is likely weaker than Super Sonic.
So the way Sonic achieves this form is by using multiple Fake Chaos Emeralds, and being in a state of anger. Now first thing to note is he needed multiple Fake Emeralds which while they do provide Chaos Energy, it's clear he needed a lot just to transform into this form.
But the next thing to not is his anger, this is would have meant like Perfect Chaos, he would have absorbed the Negative Chaos Energy of the Emeralds. Why is this important? Well if you know Sonic lore, then you would know that Negative Chaos Energy is weaker than Positive Chaos Energy. And Super Sonic uses Positive Chaos Energy, thus making Dark Sonic weaker than Super Sonic. Written by Eris

The Guardian Robots
So in Sonic The Comic long before the Gizoids were a thing, the Guardian Robot were introduced. These sentinels were robots created by the echidnas from the past. Some were programmed by Dr. Zachary to serve him, others work with Knuckles to defend the Master Emerald and the Floating Island. Written by Eris

Has Silver The Hedgehog Been Flanderized?
So I came across a video that goes over Silver the Hedgehog and makes the argument Silver the Hedgehog has been flanderized, and they make some interesting points. There is also also claims of Silver being woobified which the second video also talks about a little bit.
So I felt like sharing this. I will note I am not really a Silver fan(doesn't mean I hate Silver), by extension I don't know much about the character. So I'm sharing this bit from people who seem to know what they are talking about.

Do You Understand Tomboys?
So, here's a question. What makes one a tomboy? Something I have noticed is a lot of people who think they understand what a tomboy is, don't really.
So.... If you know who Amy Rose is, would you call her a tomboy? Most people I asked this question to said no, as they view Amy as well a girly girl. But here's the thing. According to the Sonic CD Japanese manual she is a tomboy. "Personality: Energetic and tomboyish." This ^ translation is from Sonic Retro. The image translation is a simple Google translation of the manual. Now why is she a tomboy you may ask?
Well if we look to Merriam-Webster and Britannica we get these definitions. Merriam-Webster: "A girl who behaves in a manner usually considered boyish." Britannica: "A girl who enjoys things that people think are more suited to boys." Now notice how it doesn't say exclusively acts in such a way, nor does it say they hate stuff considered traditional feminine. This is because a tomboy is just a woman who happens to also like or do things that is either considered traditionally or stereotypical masculine. All while not meaning they can't like things that is traditionally or stereotypically feminine.
In the case of Amy Rose she is a Pink Hedgehog who will like things that is considered a girly girl thing. While also liking things that is often seen as more of a thing for guys. Such as her being an athletic adventure who well loves adventure and hates boredom, & will even do things like take part in sports events. I mention the sports thing because sports are still often stereotypically seen as a guy's thing. And let's not forget about the hammer and how much strength she has. Basically a trope of the cute person or thing that may not seem like it can do harm, but can pack a big punch. As I've seen some people put it, the small girl with a big hammer.
Another person to bring up is Princess Daisy, a character many people acknowledge as a tomboy. Because this is a part of her personality that has been established since the very beginning. But this has also lead to people placing her into a box, many people thinking she hates anything considered traditional feminine, and by extension placing Peach in a box as they think she will hate things like sports. To the point where people have accused Nintendo of trying to erase her tomboy personality. But as should be obvious by now, a tomboy is multifaceted. Daisy can be a tomboy while also liking things that are considered traditionally or stereotypically feminine.

Amy Rose Is Strong Part 3
Part 2
So some of the reasons I believe people view Amy as not strong outside a misconception about her being a normal person and a certain view, is that Amy is a bit of a girly girl.
Now while Amy does indeed enjoy what is considered traditionally or stereotypically feminine things, she is also a tomboy as well. Amy being a tomboy is an part of her personality that has been a thing since Sonic CD. "Personality: Energetic and tomboyish." This ^ translation is from Sonic Retro. The image translation is a simple Google translation of the manual. For more information on how tomboys are multifaceted, check out the following post I made. Also, Amy is basically especially in the classic era is basically the cute seemingly harmless girl, wielding a huge hammer. Pretty sure this is is classified as a trope.
The next bit is people seem to overlook the fact that the main cast which includes Amy are all able to break through Badniks which are made of metal.
The smaller point aside. If my memory serves right there are some rocks in the classic games in which Sonic cannot break through, and Knuckles can. Now correct me if I am wrong, but I recall Amy in these games can use her hammer to also break through these exact type of rocks. She smashed rocks and stuff way back in the classic era. Also, as established in part 2, she can crack open the ground which Knuckles can attest to.
Now some people might note that Amy when whacking say Bark and Sonic doesn't seem to really hurt them to badly if not at all, and then use that to claim she really isn't that strong. But this ignores the context of these instances. In the case of Sonic this instance was meant to be humorous, and while Amy was mad at Sonic she didn't want to injury him. In the case of Bark we are looking at a pretty inexperienced Classic Amy who doesn't know her own strength, or how to use it properly. Speaking of which.
Classic Amy while pretty strong is still pretty inexperienced, and she has gotten stronger over time as established in part 2. Sonic Superstars Website: "Still learning to use her own surprising strength, Amy is a pink hedgehog who wields the huge 'Piko Piko Hammer.'" This is something we see further in the IDW Knuckles' 30th Anniversary Special Comic, as Knuckles teaches Amy how to better use her strength and wield her hammer. That is something to note, her strength.
Amy's hammer is know as the Piko Piko Hammer and it allows to create a lot of destruction. Now Amy's Hammer is a that is based on a toy hammer, very evident in the classic era and evident by the sound it makes. Now this hammer's weight is a topic that has been debated as it could weigh as much as toy hammer, or as much as a sledge hammer. Maybe the classic one is toy hammer weight while the current one is heavy, maybe both are heavy, or maybe both are lightweight. Regardless, either of which say something about Amy's strength. If the hammer is heavy then that means Amy is carrying around a heavy hammer constantly all while wearing weights in the modern era. But if it truly the weight of a toy hammer that would mean all the strength it would need to provide such damage comes from Amy and not the Hammer. Because let's be honest a toy hammer isn't able to break through metal and boulders. And if it's a lightweight classic hammer and a heavyweight modern hammer, then well you should know the implications of that.
All that to say again Amy is indeed a pretty strong character and it makes a lot of sense why a team up between her and Knuckles is labeled as power type, as established in part 1. Written by Eris

Fleetway Super Robotnik
In Sonic The Comic Dr. Ivo Robotnik was able to use a machine to help him absorb the chaos energy from the Chaos Emeralds. This gave him the reality warping powers of the Chaos Emeralds. He was only defeated by Sonic outwitting him and working with Knuckles to drain the Chaos Energy from Eggman by using the Gray Emerald. Written By Eris

A Major Problem With Rouge The Bat
A little warning, this post will be going into into some mature subject matter.
So, there is a bit of a problem with Rouge the Bat that I have seen in with many people in the Sonic community, and it's problem that has been a thing since the very beginning.
So many people have the interpretation of Rouge as Hispanic, which is backed up by the original character basing her off of Latin women.. Keep a pin in this. Which there is nothing wrong with viewing Rouge this way, obviously. But the problem is a lot of people have come to use this bit of information to not view it an endearing trait, but to objectify her.
Now here's where the problem starts off since the beginning. One Kazuyuki Hoshino in an interview had revealed he based Rouge off of Latin Women for her design. "I decided to create a 'slightly s exy' character that had never been in the series before, but since it was a deformed character, it required a lot of trial and error. Adding and subtracting se xiness. The costume was not too eccentric, but not too ordinary either. As a result, Jennifer Lopez is famous in Japan, and I thought I would borrow a bit of the s exiness of Latin women, which became the hint for the final draft. Her skin is brown. She has the same abilities as Knuckles, but I differentiated her by elegantly focusing her actions on kicking."
So Hoshino whether he knew it or not was playing into some stereotypes of Latinas. The exact name of this stereotype I don't remember, but what I do know is it is a type of racial fe tishization. This is what a lot of people online have done, when look into how she was design initially it is rooted in her origins.
Now, I must make clear because I know some people won't understand. There is nothing wrong with creating a woman that is considered hot, nor creating a Hispanic woman who is hot. The problem comes from the objectification, and discrimination through that objectification. Overall I am commenting on the objectification problem with Rouge, aka the problem of this being racial fe tishization. The problem not only coming from the community, but has been there since the start.
There is also the issue of it being well unbalanced, as in if you are going to create a hot female character, then are you going to intentionally make a hot male character?
Now back to Rouge, while Rouge can be written well she still has that underlying issue of being "a wild and se xy female bat who never lets her prey escape." Sonic Channel. This is seen in game where she flirts with characters like Sonic among other things, whether you see it as flanderization or not. So yeah.
One final bit is how this is all weird because of the fact that Rouge is intended to be a teenager. Now even before the ages were decanonized, Rouge during the events of Sonic Heroes was 17. Then after the canon age retcons Sonic and friends were all left as perpetual teenagers, to prevent them from all from becoming adults. By extension Rouge is also a teen because first of she is intended have a thing with Knuckles. Knuckles himself being a teenager. But also, as I discussed on my post about how old the Sonic cast are, the actually Rouge is nowhere near as tall as the canonical adult characters such as Vanilla. All that to say I think it rather weird how people in and yes the culture vultures outside of the Sonic community, obsessed over Rouge having a few more inches of clothing on her Generations model. Let alone how they cried and whined about her outfit in Sonic Prime. It very much reminds me of the weird stuff the culture vultures said about the Netflix Live Action Avatar Remake's actresses, for characters such as Azula.
In the end this does not mean you have to hate Rouge nor does it mean I hate Rouge. I am simply commenting on something I don't see a lot of people comment on, and felt like someone needed to point it out. Written by Eris

Sonic Lore, Canon, and Consistency Is Not That Different From Mario's
So there is this idea that I have seen floating around which is that Sonic Team cares more about the Sonic Lore and keeping it consistent than Mario does. With many people trying to claim Mario's doesn't even have a canon or a timeline, and is more like Mickey Mouse or SpongeBob.
This is something that is false as I have shown on my Mario Lore Blog many times that not only is there a Canon of Mario Tales, but Nintendo makes an active effort to keep it consistent. Now you may be asking, how is it similar.
Well the first way it's similar is particularly in the Classic Sonic games would rely on descriptions, gameplay without dialogue, and the environment to tell a story. Many games at the time did it this way even games like Zelda and Kirby did this at one point. This is something many Mario games still use as a method of story telling.
But the second way is how Sonic and Mario games don't have an overarching story stretching across many games, but rather self contained adventures. Hence the Mario Canon being referred to as Mario Tales, with each game being the next episode of the action adventure stories the characters go on. In other words both Sonic and Mario games aren't serialized, their stories perpetually go on with no end in sight or intended. Sometimes a game is implied to or outright stated to take place after another game, but overall still remain as their own thing. For example, how Super Mario Bros. 4: Super Mario World is stated to take place right after Super Mario Bros. 3. Or how Sonic The Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles takes place right after Sonic The Hedgehog 2. The episodic format of the Sonic games is something one ALTheBoi pointed out in their video The Soul Of Sonic Games.
The final bit is something we see all the time for Sonic and Mario games, and that is the acknowledgement of past events, the Sonic ones are self evident with games like Sonic Adventure have a passing remark about the Little Planet. Mario games do a similar thing, Blocks can show up and be stated to be from past adventures, Bowser can be show to remember past events, F.L.U.D.D. can show a database displaying Mario's past adventures, NSMBDS' manual can reference the events SMS, Pauline can do a quiz on the events of DKA, the Tail Tree from a previous game can show up, a description can off handily reference Cranky being the original DK, and just general subtle details like the SMRPG Bower's Castle showing back up in a game. All stuff Sonic games do as well.
The only real difference between the 2 is official Sonic media in recent times has been more up in your face about it, and less subtle. This is mostly because there has been an active effort to make some misconceptions that people had clear. A prime example being the 2 Worlds misunderstanding, let alone the "mandates." Outside of that there is the writing style of certain writers constantly doing a, remember when this happened that makes it all up in people's faces. The final thing is how SEGA seems to be emphasizing as a means of marketing to make every new piece of media canon. From Sonic Prime, to the IDW Comics, to even Sonic Speed Sim.
But yeah, other than that the way Mario and Sonic games treat their stories is not too dissimilar. Written by Eris
