Summer

The thought of summer is quite refreshing Where to travel in June, July, August, and September is in question The temperature is rising, the sun is blazing All I’m thinking is this summer is going to be amazing The beaches are dreamy, and the water crystal clear The breeze is relaxing, while blowing through my hair Go with the flow like water tides No negative energy, only positive vibes Walking on the sand, so carefree and barefoot This breathtaking view can’t be overlooked I like to stand in the shade, feel the crisp air Or hangout on the patio, while sipping a beer Its lighter longer, the sun is out Don’t sleep the day away, each moment counts Get lost somewhere, the GPS will reroute During the summer, I feel most alive What to do next, I can’t decide School is out, more leisure time Paint a picture, drink some wine Be healthy, and more active This is the time to be enthusiastic The flowers are bloomed New music is coming, stay in tuned The sun provides the best lighting, perfect sun kissed skin I’m just waiting for summer to begin

Black Women in Antiquity
Does it ever seem like history repeats itself? As if you experienced deja vu? You begin to question yourself and think, “Am I dreaming?” We all felt some variation of hallucination in the past. Even if it was just an illusion at a magic show. “What is something you learned today, an old friend asked?” At the time, I was a full time student as an undergrad and held a serving job. “I’m a college student with a job, thought that was enough,” I stated. It came as an epiphany in that moment, one can never know too much and should always strive to know more. When I started to write this blog, I had no idea what message I wanted to convey. Just today, I was on FaceTime with another friend. He asked, “What do you know about Madam C.J Walker”? Offensively, I said “I went to middle school, she was the first African American woman to develop hair products.” He corrected me, “she was the first millionaire…” The fact that I didn't mention the word millionaire, raised a red flag in my mind. I need to know more about my history. What better way to start, then to research the name you were given by your parents(in my case, father). Could it really be possible for history to teach you lessons that can boost your everyday life? According to, Dr. Ivan Van Sertima, professor of African Studies at Rutgers University; Public figure lecturer at more than 100 universities in the United States sheds light to the significance of learning your history.
