cheat sheet for graphic makers

images that are 245px wide can only be 400px tall or they become blurry

images that are 500px wide can only 750px tall or they will become blurry

images that are not 160, 245, or 500px wide will be blurry no matter what.

EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE ARE PHOTOGRAPHY, ART, ETC. Because you will be clicking it to make it bigger anways.

saving as a png is a popular edit choice

saving as a jpeg is popular for uploading fan sightings, art, photography, etc.

always sharpen images you’ve reduce the size of a little bit. it makes it clearer.

never ‘enlarge’ a photo to fit a bigger size. it won’t turn out nice.

icons for tumblr avatars are 64x64 not 100x100

always use 72 dpi {resolution} for edits that aren’t going to be printed.

always use 300 dpi for things that will be printed / full viewed at a larger size.

the largest size tumblr will save is 1920px-3000px {give or take some}. So upload your UHQ photos to another site and link in the caption to it. {just to be safe}

gifs can only be 160px, 245px, or 500px wide.

commonly gifsets include either 245x140px gifs or 245x245px gifs.

160px and 245px wide gifs can be up to 2mb large in filesize and still ‘move’.

500px gifs are normally 280px {give or take some} tall.

500px wide gifs can only be 1mb large or they will not move.

do not borrow gifs from other peoples sets to make your own. this is stealing.

last but not least, NEVER take someones edit / manip /etc to make your own ‘edit’ if they haven’t given you permission. that’s stealing.
