I am what’s known as stupid when it comes to collections on Ao3. I have been keeping an eye on the collection waiting for submissions. However I was looking in the wrong place - anyways I found where I was meant to be and fics have been approved to the collection :)

when I saw the themes I immediately thought of this cuz I associate this song with them a lot. I had a lot of fun incorporating elements from the cover art for ‘Die, Die my darling’ and ‘Earth A.D’ into the drawing :].

MattMello Week Day 7: Nothing bad ever happened AU

I was originally going to draw something where they survived the Kira case, but then I remembered that things went wrong when they went to Wammy's House (Roger + Watari messed UP when raising them)

So here's them at a boarding school instead of Wammy's (I felt a bit inspired by @zimt-deathnote's boarding school au)

Douzo's (my irl pal who neither has not wants a tumblr but for whom i am simply acting as mxm medium) submission!

Mattmelloweek 2024 - Day 7 Nothing Bad Ever Happened

This sketch is more of a vehicle for this rambling train of thought than anything else lol.

I was tryna think how far back you'd have to go for nothing bad to ever have happened to these two. I'm going to imagine a world where Kira never happens and L didn't die. Mello and Matt still grow up at Wammy's, but age out of the program naturally. As L is still living, the drive to find him a successor is less on everyone's minds and they're able to have fairly normal young adulthoods at super special genius school.

Matt makes a bunch of money in crypto and now in his 30's, is one of the youngest profs to receive tenure at some prestigious school. He doesn't love teaching but the research facilities are top notch, so he sticks around. He's doing like, quantum computing shit. His rate my professor score is pretty low but gets better for the upper level classes because he has a hard time giving a shit about undergrads. There are a number of entries on rate my prof that say his classes are worth it because every now again you get to see his super hot partner of indeterminate gender slink by and everyone wants a glimpse. Nobody knows how doctor Matt landed such a babe and rumours abound among students and fellow faculty that they're fucking in his office and that maybe Mello's a high end dominatrix.

They are fucking in Matt's office. And mello times his visits like right before office hours or before Matt's supposed to have an important check in with the dean, just to be a shit. And mello did work as a high end dominatrix for a while, so they're not entirely wrong about that too, but lately he just looks the part - he got bored of the rest of it. Now he's turned his attention to running his own fashion atelier. And when he gets bored of that, maybe he'll become a master pâtissier - he likes to change things up, keep his options open. Wammy's keeps a massive education fund for all its past wards/students.

Sometimes Mello will help L with a case, will still preen a bit in his presence, but it's more of a nostalgia tinged side project than something for his whole world to revolve around like when he was young. At 35, being both the hottest and smartest person in the room at any given time is thrill enough.

Matt and Mello live together but Mello also has his own flat for when he wants time to himself.

And they are happy and healthy and intellectually stimulated and nothing bad ever happened and they're doing just fine!
