I drew the first image on October 15th 2018. On the right is the same character drawn today. I’m just amazed at the progress I’ve made in 6 years. Sometimes it doesn’t feel like it, and my skill is at the same level it always was, but it just goes to show you that if you keep practicing, keep drawing what you love, drawing your little guys and your OC’s, you can improve and be amazing.

When I first made L’yra, I named her after my go to first character for a lot of RPG games. Lyra has evolved but her basic backstory principles were usually the same. She was basically a self insert, some kind of bard or musical enthusiast, and she always had a dead twin brother.

Now I’ve been in lots and lots of therapy (lots and LOTS of therapy) to work through some of my trauma and issues, so by the time I found XIV, I made her up with a basic backstory of “oh she was just in the world and decided to be an adventurer” I left out the brother thing because I had worked through that and no longer felt I needed to cling to that as a part of her (and my) identity.

Well to my surprise, Ardbert entered the story.

He sort of reminded me of Leo (Lyra’s brother) in a weird way, and she was gifted her own sort of twin brother/soulmate in the form of Ardbert. And it made something in me feel even more connected to this character that I hadn’t really intended to be more than a fun character in my new favorite game.

The story of Azem and the Warrior of Light/Darkness and Ardbert really gave me some kind of closure that I hadn’t even realized I had been missing, and the entirety of Shadowbringers and Endwalker became so special to me, that I’m glad I could finally draw out this image that has been floating around in my head the last few days.

(Also my Azem is named Persephone because I have no originality, although I might change her to Hecate just because I identify with that goddess more lol)

Shadowbringers my beloved

Honestly had the most fun drawing these. I started adding white to L’yra’s hair as she took more and more Light inside her, kind of like an early warning sign that something was wrong. I know Y’shtola can see it with in her soul, but I’m also a big fan of dramatic hair changes

Also our favorite grandpa, the crystal exarch! G’raha! Truly love him, he’s one of my favorite characters.

Thoughts about Zenos and L’yra below

I think Zenos is a fascinating character. He’s a sociopath or something else, but you have to wonder how he became that way and how he only feels emotions through violence and pain.

I believe L’yra pitied him. She’s the type of person to want to reach out a hand and try to offer someone a chance to atone for their mistakes. While she thinks what Zenos has done is unforgivable, and a little insane, she also saw a lot of pain in him, since he clearly believed that death or stagnation in what he knew were his only paths in life.

That’s not to say she isn’t furious at him at times, every time they battled. I mean, the second image is the result of their first battle in Ralgar’s reach. She came out bloody and defeated. But it was at the very end she came to the conclusion that as much as he was a perpetrator of war, he was a victim of it as well.

Final Fantasy Heavensward

Fleeing the bloody banquet to yeeting Nidhog’s eyes off a bridge.

I imagined that after the banquet my WoL was very lost, and threw themselves into helping others right away to find some kind of purpose, but would wander around Ishgard at night wondering what she could have done better.

Haurchefant’s death hit me hard, and therefore it hit my WoL very hard. I like to imagine she used the Paladin soul stone for a while to honor him. And to be a heroic and true knight like he admired and always saw her to be.
