Sacha Thorne

I just finished these artworks of my current DnD character, a half-Orc Sorcerer/Fighter named Sacha Thorne!! It took me a while to settle on a design for her, but I'm super hyped about these drawings- Sacha means the world to me, as an oc I actually get to play (since I rarely get to play DnD and when I do I've been the Forever DM for years). Her design is heavily inspired by 2000's grunge if it was fantasy, with some subtle scorpion imagery as well (like her braid and tattoos), since her magic is based on poison and acid.

Summary of Art 2024

Since 2024 is coming to a close, I've put together a compilation of my favorite artworks from this year! It's been a great year for my art development, from finally getting back into digital art to the entire month of July (Art Fight) to developing my original characters, to dabbling in other art mediums like crayon, pencil, and pen. I'm very satisfied with how it's all turned out, and with the expansive range of colors, subjects, characters, and mediums I've explored in my artwork. And thank you to those who like my art!

I can't wait for next year!

Clyde Art Compilation

I haven't been super active in a while, so I realized I drew a bunch of stuff I forgot to post, both digital and traditional!

At some point I plan to elaborate on Clyde's backstory, but for now I'll just share these artworks and give you a brief rundown. Basically, he grew up in a Woodland Mansion, raised to be a Vindicator because of his athletic skills and his protective nature, and he got pretty good at it. But, even though he was very loyal (if a little challenging to authority at times), when he got wounded in a Raid, the Illagers left him to die. Through sheer force of will Clyde recovered and renounced his loyalty to the Illagers, deciding instead to live his own life as a wanderer and huntsman. He did, however, make himself a direct enemy of the Illagers, taking any opportunity to fight against them in revenge for what they did to him.

Clyde

Me and my friend have been playing Minecraft recently, and of course I drew my character a bunch of times and now it's officially an OC. His name is Clyde, and he is an ex-Vindicator who is really indifferent to violence and prefers to live a solitary life where he can explore, build, and collect cool things in peace.

(Unrelated, but I imagine his voice to be like if Batman was a chain smoker)

Possible explanation as to why Drow are blue/purple/grey toned:

Most spiders have blue blood.

Spiders use copper-based haemocyanin to transport oxygen throughout its body, and haemocyanin absorbs all colours except blue, which it reflects.

The closest thing a human body can have to this ‘blue blood’ is cyanosis, wherein there is a decrease in oxygen bound to the haemoglobin, leading to skin becoming a purple/blue tone.

Arachnid blood doesn’t contain haemoglobin, which is what gives our blood its red hue. Instead, arachnid blood is called ‘haemolymph’. The presence of haemocyanin is what gives haemolymph its blue colour when oxygenated. Deoxygenated, it’s clear.

Vass Brothers Pen Sketches

Since I'm having some trouble with my iPad at the moment, I decided I'd do some traditional sketches in ky sketchbook; and, as I found myself listening to some angsty songs, I drew my angstiest characters, Petrichor and Morrow!

Here's the spread I did of Petrichor, along with some lyrics from Indigo Night by Tamino (a song that I think fits him well); I'm so happy with how that first page turned out (the one on the right I think could have been a little better, but I still like it!

And here are Morrow's pages! I absolutely love that full portrait on the left - it's so atmospheric, and I love the effect of the background! The lyrics are from Poor Man's Poison, by Poor Man's Poison!

Another thing I really like is that, if looked at the right way, these two drawings look like two sides of one portrait, which is such a cool effect.

Consensus: I think I need to do more traditional sketches!

Headcanon Tag Game!

I was tagged by @from-the-coffee-shop-in-edoras for this fun prompt to use this headcanon generator to generate a few headcanons for my ocs, and talk about how accurate they are. I already did this on my main blog @meluiloth with my LOTR ocs, and it was so fun I'm also doing it here for Morrow and Petrichor! I'm going to generate three headcanons for each of them!

Morrow:

Morrow almost drank the lethal dosage of caffeine once.

Morrow drinks the lethal dosage of caffeine daily just to keep going. He keeps increasing the concentration because he's becoming immune to the affects.

Morrow has an incredible long-term memory but an awful short-term memory.

This one is not accurate; Morrow's memory is near-photographic, especially since his line of work depends on him meticulously keeping track of minute details, so both his long-term and his short-term memory is very clear.

Morrow believes in ghosts and insists on trying to summon one at every sleepover.

Morrow absolutely believes in ghosts, but summoning one is the exact opposite thing he would ever want to do; he's very haunted by what he's done, so he would want to keep any ghosts as far away from him as possible.

Petrichor:

Petrichor has not showered in two and a half weeks.

This one is very inaccurate; though he's on the scruffier side, Petrichor absolutely hates being dirty, and his powers as a storm mage allow him to take a shower whenever he wants.

Petrichor watched the sonic movie.

He absolutely would watch the Sonic movie - both of them - and get addicted to them. He would be hyped about Shadow being featured in the third movie.

If Petrichor likes someone, he will give them a pretty rock.

Ever since leaving prison, Petrichor has developed a fascination for collecting things he finds interesting - small trinkets that he can travel with, like rocks - and sharing these little treasures is one way he would try and befriend others (since his communication skills are pretty low). It might not be a rock, necessarily, but it would be something interesting.

This game is really fun - the generator's complete unpredictability makes for prompts that are either uncannily accurate or wildly inaccurate, and it's really fun either way!

It was a little difficult to decide which characters I wanted to do this for, but I ended up settling on my Drow brothers Morrow and Petrichor because the vibes are so there.

Morrow is the patron saint of Obsession.

patron saint of devotion. of dedication. of passion. of everything you won't call it, in the spaces between. patron saint of holding tight to it until it bleeds. patron saint of pushing it too far. patron saint of staring into the sun until you're blind. patron saint of gazing onto beauty until you can't see anything anymore.

Petrichor is the patron saint of Heartbreak.

not of comfort. not of condolences. there is a heart and there is a fissure, a fracture, something that starts to splinter and break open. you're the patron saint of the way a heart is rent open. the way it tears itself apart. patron saint of the rift. patron saint of the gash. when they say to "open your heart" to somebody, you are the patron saint of bleeding out.

This is a super fun challenge, and I think these answers fit the characters so well!!

So Much More Than Royal

One of my oldest DnD characters, Clarence!! He’s the Prince of a tiny city trapped within a forest that was cursed by a Dragon, and although he was a spoiled brat, he’s matured a lot since being killed by a Lich and then revived by his friend (now girlfriend). Now he’s learning magic from the Lich who had killed him (and who actually happens to be an ancient ancestor of his, also formerly cursed by the Dragon) and he’s on a quest to kill the Dragon.

I absolutely love this piece, especially Clarence’s majestic hair (which he’s braided back a little because he’s finally confident enough to show off his scars)

I’m also glad I had the idea to turn it into a sort of poster of sorts with the text - it adds a lot of class to the piece, I think!

Hey! I'm thinking of trying to do art commissions, and as a freelance artist yourself, do you have any tips on doing that?

Hey!! I would recommend joining toyhouse and advertising commissions there, as well as all other social media platforms you have! I did a lot of my first commissions on various art discords.

Price your work accordingly! Dont low-ball just because you think people wont buy your work at a higher price

Dont take on too much. I have gotten burned out several times by taking on a large amount of commissions at once :)

Hi!! I know that you're pretty experienced in taking / drawing commissions, and as an artist who wants to try doing that but has never attempted it before, would you have any advice?

Hii, I am quite flattered that you think I know what I am doing (which I don't really lol.)

What helped me not to feel overwhelmed at the beginning was to define what I was going to draw. This could mean, for example, that you only offer 1 HOUR Chibi Commissions, or pet portraits for the time being. But that's just my personal preference. (I am a bit anxious and the email traffic with customers is more limited if they know what to expect from you.) Also - GET PAID IN ADVANCE PLEASE! - (Some people will take your art and run)

I don't know if these are good advice but I hope I could help....
