rivain is so rich and interesting even with the little information we have and there could have been so much to work with wrt taash’s multiculturality and overall storyline. how differently the qun is viewed in rivain as opposed to the rest of thedas, with kont-aar being a qunari settlement that exists peacefully alongside the local culture. and some rivainis even follow both the qun as well as their own practices because they don’t contradict each other. there is a lot of overlap: prioritizing community welfare and responsibility to one another are cornerstones of both qunari and rivaini beliefs! these cultural dynamics that have been established could have been so great to focus on! the qun could have been portrayed in a different light than the demonization it has gotten in the past, we could have seen life under the qun without it being instantly framed by the narrative as evil and warlike and hellbent on conquest. we could have seen literally any interaction with rivaini culture outside of the lords of fortune. rivain is matriarchal; how might that play into taash’s relationship with femininity and the disconnect they feel from womanhood? give us literally anything

but “being rivaini” got watered down to “gold and glory” and “taash rebelling against their mom,” and rivain was an empty beach and a gladiatorial combat arena and mindlessly killing antaam who grunt and yell and charge at you and capture sweet innocent do-gooder crows. “being rivaini” meant absolutely nothing and “being qunari” felt to me like it was meant to be portrayed as the “wrong” choice, too restrictive, not allowing taash to form their own identity. the antaam were faceless enemies to mow down, the dragon king was cartoonishly evil for evil’s sake, and the rest of the qun that the antaam had split from was barely acknowledged.

veilguard did such a disservice to both the qun and rivain. it is so genuinely appalling how little they cared about developing these cultures and treating them with any amount of respect. and it is very! notable! that rivain is majority poc and the qun has been compared to islam by the writers, when looking at how they were given infinitely less care than say nevarra or antiva, whose aesthetics and cultures (at least in their veilguard representations, re: nevarra) are mostly based on europe

i finally did it guys i cant believe it! enjoy! so, this is a little illustration of my unfinished poorly written fic which was originally inspired by this pic haha. and now i have 12 additional comic pages. im dead i will never do this again. ... but who knows...

SO this scene happened after the almost kiss and the dessert scenes. not gonna lie, these two wanted each other, the tension between these touch starved human beings was barely bearable. and one day murat couldn't fall asleep (cus of the fade or the thoughts abt one certain man), decided to make himself a tea and have a little chat with his friend while he waits. well... the water in the kettle almost boiled away because these two unexpectedly decided to start a sword fight. murat just wanted to finally kiss him, and lucanis imagined a certain scene from the book he read and thought that now or never. but murat didn't mind. after that they started boyfriending more and were less afraid of touching each other. well, for murat it was okay, lucanis was probably still a little afraid cus it was something very new to him.
