Today is the Jewish equivalent of Valentine's Day, Tu B'Av (15th of the month of Av).

In biblical times on this day, the single women used to dress all in white (they would borrow clothes from eachother so that no one would feel embarrassed) and go to the fields and dance. The young men would come to see and pick a potential mate.

This was also the day when people were allowed to have inter-tribel engagements. A lot of couples who were from different tribes would wait to ask for permission to marry on this specific day.
