I just had to jot down some thoughts on this comment I found under a Byler post bc I’m sick of the blatant homophobia in the stranger things community.

It’s not a fan service ship. Regardless if you ship Byler or Mileven they’ve set up the two pairs knowing that the audience and fans know wsp and if they don’t touch on Mike and wills relationship at all it will be by definition queer baiting which is 10x worse than breaking up a straight relationship.

The duffers arent dumb, If they didn’t want fans to get the wrong idea they would have addressed Byler years ago but they didn’t. They made will canonically gay, in love with Mike, and the one who’s trying to fix Mike and elevens relationship selflessly throwing his own feelings aside, even when their relationship is crumbling beneath their feet anyways.

Why would they write an already tragic character who never gets relief be shot down and rejection just to uphold the general audience’s expectations of having a boy and a girl together? Y’all gotta come to the realization that it’s either canon in whichever way Byler goes, (tragic or good ending) or Theyre queerbaiting the living hell out of LGBT viewers.

It’s not a “fan service ship”. We aren’t crazy. Byler’s not gonna write itself.

Either They’re playing in our faces or we’re right 😭

I've been in quite a few fandoms in my time and you know, shipping is commun and wishing for your ship to become real obviously happens to some degree.

But I feel like usually people with ships and especially queer ships are not as "delusional" as some would say. When there is absolutely no chance of a ship becoming canon believe me, we know.

Even if we focus just on the ST fandom, it is full of ronance and steddie shippers for example I can even add stonathan or elmax to the list, and don't get me wrong they have lots of cute moments and of instances that could push you to ship them eventually, yet we know those ones are not gonna be canon, nobody's arguing otherwise. There is no big compilation of hints, long analysis videos etc. What there is is people enjoying their dynamics and fan content.

Yet with Byler, it's not just a small amount of people kinda wishing it would happen, saying it would be nice. It's like an army of fans so sure it's gonna be endgame, a whole bunch of people seeing clues and believing in it so strongly.

I'm sorry but I'm inclined to think where there is smoke there is fire cause this is insane.

I've never been part of a shipping community that believes so strongly in the realisation of a queer ship like this. Outside of shows actually aimed and targeted at a queer audience.

Byler doubt exists but it keeps being calmed down by the pure amount of evidence we have for it. I can't believe for one second that this is being delusional.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk and remember, we're far from mad. Our beliefs here don't come from nothing, it is all based on stuff that factually and undisputably happens in the show.

If you decide not to see it after being exposed to it, that's fine. But when it does happen don't you dare say it came from nowhere when you chose to be blind.

The ending there came out harsher than I intended, and I have no ill intent against anyone shipping Mike & El neither against the ga that genuinely didn't notice the signs.

If you're a casual viewer with an heteronormative view on the world, that doesn't dwelve at all in the lgbtq+ community, then yeah, you can miss it. I get it. But if you're so into your ship that you spend time in the fandom and end up coming across us and then actively decide to fight us for pointing out byler facts cause it goes against what you want, then that's not the same. Ignoring clues we present doesn't make you the cool realist fan you think it does.
