Just finished today in #richmond - "Cosmic Moxie" Mural at @vitalityfloatspa off cary, on Robinson-across from the old GRTC that once held my first big wall ever for the 2nd @rvastreetart festival . Next one please! Currently booking for summer/fall No projectors used in this 40' x 20' piece. Latex and #oneshot Thanks to the team at Vitality for trusting me with this monster. Especially @kwaynek and @katiekbosch , thanks also to @sabartstudio who came out and helped me prime and did some base fills for me! And thanks to model @projectmoxie who was totally cool with having a 18 foot face, and thanks to the photographer who took the original photo of her. Tom for the scaffold help, and hamilton for lending me the stabilizers. Finally shout out to all those who came to say hi while I was painting. Sneak peak of a #wip from my newest series in the #studio. I'm focusing on strong women that I've encountered in my travels. ON #internationalwomensday I want to encourage women to recognize and support other women in your life. Only together can we overcome the gender gap. In focusing on portraits of women I am hoping to address the importance of viewing the female form through the female gaze, where we are people, rather than the traditional male gaze, when women in art are objects of decoration. A note on the subject here. She is a business minded vegan, mom, urban gardener, jujitsu master, and all around amazing badass. I don't know how she does it all so flawlessly. It's #galentinesday so it's only fitting to talk about some of my new painting since I am working on a new series in reaction to my own feelings of helplessness that are a result of the #metoo movement. Which is so important, but also asks us all to confront pur own pasts. So. I'm painting a series of strong women, whom I admire for their resiliance, strength and grace. Here is an early drawing of a now almost-finished piece, on gold, of one of those portraits. I feel it's important for women to paint women away from the male gaze, which can feel predatory at times. I love my dudes, but ladies need to support and acknowledge the strengths of other ladies. So. Holla! To my strong lady friends.
