(this is about trials of Apollo)
Imagine how sad it could've been if Apollo couldn't go back to godhood. Like I wanna see him losing his mind thinking every little thing is one of his friends coming to find him. I want him to get so distraught at the constant reminders that he begs them to stop sending signs, because he never believes they're real.
(Big long angsty post ahead <3 If anything seems wrong let me know - I'll either correct it or explain it!)
He sees someone in a silver jacket like Artemis had and he has to keep himself from running over to check if it's her. He knows it isn't. Someone has her hair. Someone has her eyes. That someone never turns out to be her and he starts to doubt whether she'd even look the same after such a long time.
Wings flutter behind him and he'll always look for Hermes, but it's just a bird. He knows it isn't him; he knows every time but he always looks. He stands with the birds, their flight reminds him of his friend. It bugs him that he can't figure out which bird sounds right anymore.
A loud laugh booms from across the room, as if Ares was celebrating a fight being won by his favorite soldier. It is simply someone watching a football game without headphones. He starts watching sports too, he doesn't care what kind. He's only watching for the announcer's voice.
He'll go watch the campers fight but then the swords clinking just made him think of Hephaestus. A younger camper offers him their dagger when they see how he stares at the swords sadly. He takes it. He doesn't think he'd make one in this style but he doesn't know now.
Once he smells a perfume so clear that it felt like he was right next to Aphrodite. But when he turned it was just someone testing a bottle outside a store. He buys the perfume, no one is allowed to use it. But he doesn't know if this would still be her favorite scent.
He sees a man carrying a small child on his shoulders. He thinks of Zeus and wonders what he could've done to make him do this. He can't help but worry for the child. Was there a time Zeus cared for him like that?
He walks past a couple walking out of their wedding together. The bride looks just like Hera did - her hair was styled the same way she liked to. He walks faster. The bride wouldn't be her. He doesn't know what her hair is like now.
The gods watch from Olympus - they know he's looking for them but they're unable to help him. No one wants to fight Zeus, they know they won't win. They'd love to make fun of him for how badly he missed them but they all knew it was mutual. They'd carry around flower heads, highlighters, sun stickers - anything that reminds them of him.
They send him things in anyway they can, but even then, he'll start to doubt whether it really is from them. The arrows he finds stop being seen as a sign of his sister and start being a cruel joke from the fates. The flowers blooming around him are no longer a symbol of Demeter but a reminder of everyone else he'd lost.
They'd never forget about him, but he'd forget how they fought to help him get back. Eventually the blessings stop - they're only hurting him more. Everyone tries to keep their distance, everyone keeps him safe in ways he won't ever notice.
Meg sees all of his reactions, she sees his fight to keep his sanity. She never knows what she can do for him. He's happy to spend more time with her but they both know it's unnatural.
He used to keep the items he'd gathered next to his bed; it had become too painful now. They were neatly put into a box that he keeps under his bed. He claims not to care about it but everyone knows he's lying. Meg sees him tearfully putting it back one night, she knows it wasn't a rare thing to happen.
His collection had grown a lot since he started to grieve. He'd turned desperate after he finished what should have been the end of his trials. Meg had brought him things to add to the collection. She gave him a seashell, she gave him some seeds, she gave him a little owl plushie. She only stopped after she gave him some glow in the dark stars and he cried. But he put the stars all around his room.
He knew he'd mourn his former godhood, he hated how he'd have to mourn his family first.
He began to grow resentful towards the people that could talk to the gods. He once welcomed any hunter he met, he now avoided them at all costs. Why should they get to see his sister when he couldn't? He couldn't be around campers getting claimed; he didn't want to see the gods thinking about these strangers after he'd assumed they forgot him.
Rachel never got the gift of prophecy back. There was no one to give it to her. And he'd never admit it but he was so relieved there wasn't. He hadn't been replaced, he assumed his role had simply been forgotten.
He didn't know he wasn't forgotten. And he'd never find out. He'd live the rest of his life believing the rest of his family simply gave up like Zeus did. What god would watch a mortal for so long anyway?
And what a long life it turns out to be. Far too short for a god; yet far too long to be suffering.

Literally could not draw anything for the life of me so here's some doodles(look below for hazel rant)
Also Rick and the fandom are my worst enemies for how they treated hazel like her story is amazing and has enough potential to become it own book but she get pushed to the side of is a sporting character in other moments.
many treats hazel as this innocent person who clutches their pearls and does not know anything and even if it a funny gag at times people treat that as here character she is more likely to cuss someone out then try to make amens with someone she does not know. she a kind person who would make sure no one feels left out but she's also a petty 13 year old girl who just came from a society that could not she her as a person for some stupid reasons that make no sense of course she not going to be a push over and it makes me stupid mad when I see hazel be dumb down to a girl who is kind and would let anything slide it feels like a disservice to her character she a the potential to be so much more complex if Rick gave here more time of day after S.o.N.
(I also wish they did not make her get with Franky so quickly instead have her develop more without their relationship)

a quick psa to anyone recently getting into greek mythology and is a victim of tumblr and/or tiktok misconceptions:
-there is no shame in being introduced to mytholgy from something like percy jackson, epic the musical or anything like that, but keep in mind that actual myths are going to be VERY different from modern retellings
-the myth of medusa you probably know (her being a victim of poseidon and being cursed by athena) isn't 100% accurate to GREEK mythology (look up ovid)
-there is no version of persephone's abduction in which persephone willingly stays with hades, that's a tumblr invention (look up homeric hymn to demeter)
-as much as i would like it, no, cerberus' name does not mean "spot" (probably a misunderstanding from this wikipedia article)
-zeus isn't the only god who does terrible things to women, your fav male god probably has done the same
-on that note, your fav greek hero has probably done some heinous shit as well
-gods are more complicated than simply being "god of [insert thing]", many titles overlap between gods and some may even change depending on where they were worshipped
-also, apollo and artemis being the gods of the sun and the moon isn't 100% accurate, their main aspects as deities originally were music and the hunt
-titans and gods aren't two wholly different concepts, titan is just the word used to decribe the generation of gods before the olympians
-hector isn't the villain some people make him out to be
-hephaestus WAS married to aphrodite. they divorced. yes, divorce was a thing in ancient greece. hephaestus' wife is aglaia
-ancient greek society didn't have the same concepts of sexuality that we have now, it's incorrect to describe virgin goddesses like artemis and athena as lesbians, BUT it's also not wholly accurate to describe them as aromantic/asexual, it's more complex than that
-you can never fully understand certain myths if you don't understand the societal context in which they were told
-myths have lots and lots of retellings, there isn't one singular "canon", but we can try to distinguish between older and newer versions and bewteen greek and roman versions
-most of what you know about sparta is probably incorrect
-reading/waching retellings is not a substitute to reading the original myths, read the iliad! read the odyssey! i know they may seem intimidating, but they're much more entertaining than you may think
greek mythology is so complex and interesting, don't go into it with preconcieved notions! try to be open to learn!

Do you guy think the gods hate Percy because of his first quest(finding the master bolt)
It makes sense in toa it conform that at least Apollo was commonly hit with it to correct his behavior so it not outside the box he did it to his other kids as well.
it would make sense Aries, for example never did anything else to show He did not trust Olympus after the fact, he hid the lightning bolt without much convincing(and even if we don’t know his end goal besides starting the war, with the lightning bolt we can assume it was to get it away from Zeus) and it would explain why he’s so pissed at 12-year-old and cursed the kid
Another example is Hermes when he help percy go on the quest to sea of monsters when it was instructed that if he goes, he could be in great danger and it’s best interest to protect him but he didn’t care. He did offer him with protection, but that was to help get his son back I truly don’t think he cared what to happen to Percy again because he’s the reason his dad has the lightning bolt again
Apollo does not have a solid example, but Percy does suck at singing?? And we can assume in the Titans curse that Apollo showed Percy the dream of Annabeth under the rock to convince him to go even again if it was in his best interest to stay at camping train, and there was better ways to convince and seeing his best friend(crush) going through a type of torture.(but to give him the benefit of the doubt he did help in this quest a lot more than any other God did )
It makes sense to me because Zeus uses a type of abuse to put him in a good light and his lightning bolt in a bad anything that happens he blames on the lightning bolt not himself so it makes sense for someone under that type of abuse to want to remove the lightning bolt, am I the only one who thinks this?(ps to Percy stands this is not me, saying Percy is responsible for any of this. He only did it to save his mom.)
