Yknow what imma do.
Im gonna just Steal I am the heros gameplay.
And change whatever I dont like abt it.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
In short, development of Rakugals has not been going well.
Well technically now it’s called Rebeloids, but either way things have not been going smoothly. Mainly in the fact that people do not find the prototype fun at all, and I can’t seem to find a unique core concept that actually works.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/498500/I_Am_The_Hero/ this fucking game. this is essentially what Rakugals was gonna be. And now idk what to do to actually make Rebeloids unique.
Now some of you may think it doesn’t have to be unique. However, if a game isn’t unique, it has to be the best out there in order to succeed. And that is something I do not want to be concerned with.
I need like a legit unique gimmick for this. I can’t do a fusion genre with shmup b/c that would mean I’d have to sync all the bullets for the online, which would be too much. And online co-op is definitely something I want to do.
Idk what to do here. I need this, this project, to keep me going throughout the day. Like this is why I dev, this is why I do what I do, and without it I don’t really have a motivation…

Fluorider Post-Mortem
What’s up gamer’s? I haven’t used this blog in forever, but now that the results for Ludum Dare are in, I figured I’d write a post-mortem on my project for it.
Now, since the release of AGHR, Anim Ace has expanded to several more artists, musicians (most of whom are +TEK’s friends), and a few other people to help with testing and design. When the theme for the ludum dare came in, or at least the final rounds of the themes, I asked people for suggestions, but i didn’t feel any of them were a combination of being both fun to play, unique, and easy to make. Eventually I came up with the idea of a tokusatsu hero fighting plaque with a toothbrush, and that’s when everyone got to work on it.
Now, I have been working on another project since finishing AGHR, and if you’ve followed this blog long enough you probably know what it is, but basically my plan was to take the technology/code from that and reuse it in Fluorider. Thankfully, the transition was pretty smooth, however there was a lot of work with retrofitting the technology to work in a smaller resolution. I think doing this was also really good, because it helped me find game-breaking bugs in my code that I would not have found otherwise.
The game ended up coming out kinda jank, but I guess that is to be expected with any ludum dare game. I considered at times going back to fix some issues, but I figured it ultimately was not worth doing so after the ludum dare jam ended, as it would have been cheating. There are still some annoying issues that bother me, but I have them fixed in my main project now.
I’m very glad people enjoyed this game. I kinda used it as a way to test market the controls/combat for my next project to see if people liked it, and I don’t think I’ve shown this to a single person to have them dislike it. However, this project made me realize something. As the only programmer in a team of now four artists and four soundmakers/testers, I felt very alone. As such, after this game, I brought on two more programmers (general purpose and to help with multi-sprite rigging) to help keep me company, even though I could still do those jobs myself.
I’m very glad we got such a high ranking, even though I saw a lot of other people get better rankings in the jam. I honestly expected us to be within the top 150 or so, so I can’t really complain. But I feel if I may have pushed my game a bit more and maybe fixed some things, we could have even gotten into the top 100.
As for if this is going to evolve into something more like AGHR did? Like I said, the code and combat used here is going to be used in another project of mine, and if you’ve followed this blog enough you probably know what it is, so be on the lookout for that!

Yeah, that’s right. Your eyes don’t deceive you. What you’re seeing here is the first level uploaded directly to the AGHR workshop, now available for download. And right now, it’s the only one.
But it doesn’t have to be.
Now, You have the power to upload levels to the AGHR workshop as well! However, this is only the beginning for Aliens Go Home Run version 1.3.
Mouse support in the editor has been reworked from the ground up. No more of that annoying displacement here. Additionally, keyboard support has also been added for typing in your level name. For the Gui saucers, you can also now set what direction you want them to go in.
Additionally, we’ve made a few little tweaks as well, such as adding automapping for Nintendo Switch controllers, as well as making levels more fair and challenging by not having saucer directions as randomized.
This workshop feature is still relatively new, so if you have any issues, don’t hesitate to email [email protected]. We got more updates coming soon, so have your ears open, your eyes peeled, and your fingers ready at the controls.

Batter Up! ⚾💥👾 We just uploaded a new trailer for Aliens Go Home Run! Wow! We’ve added and changed a plethora of elements in the game since our first trailer, but we’ve still got plenty of that brick-breaking alien-busting baseball action. Our public demo has also been updated, if you care to try that out. https://anim-ace.itch.io/aliens-go-home-run
Our game is coming out April 2nd, we’ve chosen this date because that’s when the MLB baseball season starts, and our game isn’t on PS4 (yet) so we don’t have to worry about Persona 5 at all. It also gives us enough time to add our finishing touches, such as +TEK giving the game much better sound mixing. As usual, stay tuned for more updates!

Wow! New Aliens Go Home Run Demo Today!
New features include:
In-game announcer! So exciting!
New Level Editor to make your own levels! Send them to us and we might even feature them!
New revised demo levels! Wow!
We’re just in the final stages with the game at this point. Just revising our earlier levels and maybe making a few new ones. We’re planning to release sometime around March, assuming everything goes as smoothly as it is going now. As usual, stay tuned for more updates.
