Mike comforting Will

A/N: hi! So this was inspired by the script of the fan scene. This is Will opening up about him hating himself and why I think he hates himself! I hope you enjoy this little hurt/comfort Byler moment!

Btw! This is very much non-canon! This is in a universe where Vecna was defeated!

It was already a difficult day for Will. He just woke up with an icky feeling. Going to school definitely didn’t make it any easier, being back in Hawkins brought up a lot of bad memories.

Troy and his goons always making fun of him for being gay. And although Will has finally accepted that Troy ended up being right.. it’s difficult to ignore that little voice in his head. The voice of his father, the school bullies.. hell even Angela in California managed her way in there.

It was after school, Will invited over Mike. The two had been official boyfriends for about 3 months now. Mike and El broke up after they both realized El wasn’t ready for a commitment like a relationship and still had a lot to figure out. But they still remained the best of friends.

They were all hanging out at the Byers house. “Does anybody want a drink?” Will asked, getting up from the couch as they were teaching El how to play a video game. “Sure, do you still have coke?” Mike asked while El said “No, thanks.”

Will nodded, “sure! I’ll be right back.” Going to the kitchen and poring 2 glasses of coke.

Will spotted himself in the reflection of the kitchen window, sighing softly while trying to push his thought away.

He grabbed the two glasses and made his way to the living room. As he walked in Will sees Mike and El having a laugh, nothing more but something just stings. ‘Mike should be with her.. I ruined it all. Mike deserves a normal relationship.’ and thousands of similar thoughts screamed at him.

Will noticed himself tearing up and quickly put down the drinks with Mike. “I uhm.. I- I’m really tired so I’m gonna lay down for a second.” Will quickly muttered as he walked to his room. A frustrated sigh leaving him as he sat down on his bed. Tears falling from his eyes. So many things ran through his head; his father, his bullies, things he heard about the news about gay people. Will starts to softly sob, laying down on his bed while hugging his pillow. Making sure to not make to much noise, not wanting to alarm Mike or El.

However, that didn’t work.

In the meantime, Mike looked at Will with worried eyes as he walked to his room. “But Will-.. and he’s gone.” Mike sighed. “I don’t know what’s up with him! He’s been off the entire day… did I do something?”

El shook her head, looking at the door of her brothers room. “No, he’s like this sometimes. Joyce said it’s just hard for him to be back here, in Hawkins.” Mike nodded and stood up, “I’m gonna go check up on him.” El nodded with a slight smile, happy someone cared so much about Will. “Okay, take your time.”

Mike gave a quick smile before going to Will’s room.

“Will..” Mike knocked on the door, “are you okay?” He asked, moving to open the door

Will heard and quickly sat up, wiping his face. As he turned to the door, it opened. “Mhm? Y-yeah! Yeah I’m okay, just tired.” Will said as he tried to smile, unaware of how puffy, watery and red his eyes were. Mike frowned softly and sat next to Will on his bed. “What’s wrong? You’ve been acting weird all day.” Mike said softly, trying to look Will in the eyes. Will kept looking down, looking like he was about to start crying again. “I.. it’s stupid, you shouldn’t even worry.” Will mumbled. “Hey-“ Mike carefully grabbed Will’s face, cupping his cheeks. “It’s not stupid.. you’re so upset. Whatever it is, it can’t be stupid.” Mike said, looking Will in the eyes.

Will teared up again, tears falling down his face. Mike wiped them away in return. “What’s going on?” He said softly.

“You.. You deserve something better..” Will said softly in a broken voice. “You deserve to be with someone normal, with a girl.. to be in a normal relationship..” he said, barely above a whisper. Will started silently sobbing, looking down again.

“W-what? Where is this coming from?” Mike asked, shocked to be even hearing this.

Will sighs, “being back here.. seeing people like Troy.. m-my dad..” he takes a deep breath, trying not to sob. Tears still streaming down his face. “That.. they were right..” he started to break down slightly. “They were all right!.. I’m a fairy.. a queer.. a fag.. and they could all see it! What if y-you start getting treated like I was because of me?!” Will said, looking up and sobbing.

Mike was silent. He didn’t know what to say. He just pulled Will in his arms, holding him close. Will felt himself freeze in Mike's arms, he somehow expected Mike to get angry.

Will finally allowed himself to fully break down, holding onto Mike as if his life depended on it.

Mike just held him until he started to calm down, kissing Will’s head from time to time. “Will.. they might’ve been right about your sexuality.. but that doesn’t mean anything.” Mike said softly, “and I know the things everyone said.. but they’re not true. I understand if things are engrained into your head but I swear on my life Will.. I am going to do everything in my power to help you get over this.” He smiles softly, looking down at his boyfriend.

“I am going to help you love who you are.. the way I.. l-love you..” Mike said softly, his face turning completely red.

Will smiled softly through his tears, knowing what a big deal this was for Mike. Will kissed Mike’s cheek.

“I.. love you too..”
