I've always wanted to offer a YCH commission, and I thought it would be fun to do one based on my favorite part of farming sims -- the fruits of our labor. I love digital farming, ya'll. Romance is great and all but THE FARMING. THE CROPS!! THE CUTE LITTLE FOOD SPRITES!!!

What makes the farmer of Stardew Valley so... different?

What made the Junimos believe this twenty-something loser could be their saviour?

Why does everyone accept their behaviour, and choose to believe they're a friend when their behaviour is almost stalkerish?

Why did Mr Qi believe they were interesting enough to meet?

When anyone else visits the old community centre, they find an abondened building with rotted wood beams and plants growing through the floor, but when the Farmer explores, the spirits of a different world greet them at the door.

Everyone knows of these legendary fish, rumoured, but never seen. The Farmer can find them all with unnatural ease. Willy has worked in the fishing industry for his whole life and he only knew of their existence, and has not once been able to find one.

The explosive force of several kilos of dynamite should be enough to shred a person to pieces, but, it just knocks them around a little.

Aliens crash landed on his property. The witch cursed his farm, the skeletons cursed his luck. The fairies gave him blessings in return.

Why is it that when anyone else looks down, they see dirt, but when the Farmer looks, they find an ancient fossil of unknown origin? Why does regular food and drink change them at the atomic level?

Is it a blessing or a curse to be at the centre of the vortex, forever forced to play out century-old vendettas and be the change in a thousand lives? Wherever the farmer goes, the world moves with them, twisting itself around to curse and appease them as much as possible. Is the Farmer drawn to the supernatural, or is it the supernatural that finds the farmer so alluring?

And everywhere they go, Mr Qi watches, and waits.

COUGHS LOUDLY. 

This one has a couple of varied answers so I’m just gonna explain them to make a bit more sense. Katherine herself is a strange muse when it comes to shipping. She’s far easier to platonically ship with as romance doesn’t come as easily. So she’s got a few of those (see Ashling from @dreamdrops-farms, Julien from @elflion / @mycologay, and Bailey from @featherfalls-farms). But those are existing ships so that defeats the question a bit.

Romantically, Katherine’s got a few crushes, only a few have really any sort of planning/action taken on them as of this moment and only really MAYBE three of them have ships developing (see Sebastian from @rotinthedark, Akashi from @oxalisfarm, and Clive also from @featherfalls-farms.) Other than that she’s got a few crushes on other muses like Popuri (because she’s weak for a pretty girl), she’s soft on Penny but isn’t sure if it’s a romantic thing or just an empathetic understanding, she’s got a major soft spot for Vaughn that I don’t know where the hell came from but I think it’s cute, and then a lil crush on Touma from @farm-euphoria. 

TLDR, she’s got crushes but she’s an awkward nerd and doesn’t think she’s worthy of having feelings reciprocated due to past relationships she’s had.

His head dipped, briefly, before brown eyes turned to her again. Wanting to convey the sincerity of his words to her. Make sure they really stuck. “It wouldn’t be the same without you anymore.”

His reply to her overly depression laced statement hitched her breath in her throat, his words hitting her core far more than they usually did. Sure he was normally a fairly soft spoken guy, only talking when he needed to or really wanted to. But that alone made his words mean that much more. Just the very fact that he’d reiterated it and looked her near dead in the eye to convey just how much he meant them.

Tears welled without her realizing it, eyes glazing over by the sheer wetness that threatened to fall at a moments notice. How long had it been since someone had shown her such genuine interest in her well being? She’s said her initial statement merely offhand as she gazed out upon the quickly darkening sky. Dusk tended to be a time when she was at her most relaxed and thoughts just….poured out so easily. It was also when she tended to be the most vulnerable.

Sebastian understood, Yoba he understood more than anybody what was hidden behind those words. The anguish. The loneliness. The hopeless romanticized longing for even just…someone to understand and accept. “…thank you, Sebastian. You….you really matter to me too.” Katherine focused everything in her power to keep from stuttering just this once to really drive home what weight her words meant to her companion. The tears fell briefly, a warm smile following as she rubbed at her face, not wanting to embarrass herself any further.

Maybe it was the emotions in the air as the sky grew darker, stars rapidly taking the place of the last dwindling rays of sunlight that were swallowed up by the horizon, but everything felt right in that moment. As if magic was dancing in the early summer air. It was apprehensive at first, more so just out of a need for comfort, but Katherine leaned over and laid her head on his shoulder, a need to just relax and take everything in washing over her.

She was home.

Dylan gritted his teeth at the question posed to him; it’s clear that he’s uncomfortable with that topic as of now. After what seemed like a long awkward silence, he let out a defeated sigh and murmured under his breath. “I don’t think I’m ready yet, nor do I think you or anyone would be, but if you insist...”

Dylan’s face grew dim as he fell silent once more; his glaring red eyes fixated on you. You’ve never seen him wear such an eerie expression before, but besides that, you didn’t notice any changes on him as you expected. Your disappointment didn’t last long, however, as you felt your surrounding darkened by a vast shadow. Looking up, you witnessed a giant merman with the distinctive black and white markings of a killer whale gliding alarmingly close above you. How was that possible? To begin with, you weren’t underwater... or were you, actually?

Out of the blue, a high-pitched whistle emitted by the merman inundated your senses. As quickly as everything first appeared, the merman and the mystifying underwater scenery were gone in a blink. You found yourself back at the familiar place you were initially at, still dazed from the surreal experience you underwent moments ago. What was that just now? Was it merely a dream?

“Are you satisfied?” came Dylan’s voice, “next time, I hope you’ll be more careful with your words, anon.”

Happy Mermay! Here’s a full-scale size comparison between an anonymous person (6 ft), Dylan as a human (6 ft 7 in), and Dylan in his true orca merman form (roughly +30 ft). He’s able to turn into his merman form at a smaller size and still retains his human skin color, so he rarely assumes his largest size and feral coloration out of fear of scaring anyone away.
