I'm sorry. I know I'm being a giant ball of negativity on here lately, and posting way too much OOC while not posting enough RP replies to people.
There's no need to interact with this post; it's mostly just me yelling into the void to get it off my chest.
I won't ramble. I'm sorry if I'm off-putting. I know some people just don't vibe OOCly, and that's fine -- I have no issues with that whatsoever. But I still want to apologize regardless.
#Out of the Flames#TW: Negative#CW: Negative#TW: Negativity#CW: Negativity#things will get better. I'm sure of it#I've been thinking more and more and more lately that maybe it's time to archive this blog and move on#this isn't because of anything anyone on here has said or done -- it's just me being me and overthinking

@lured-into-wonderland asked: 🧪 "If it weren't out of duty, you wouldn't even think about marrying me. I am not that kind of women that you would be attracted to." - she knows that's a statement; now a question - "Is that not the truth, Elwin?" - the choice of words is deliberate. She want's to hear Elwin's opinion and not the heir's to the throne.
The question -- or rather the statement, does catch him off-guard. The glass of wine that he had been drinking is placed aside for the time being, and his green-blue gaze lingers upon the deep red liquid for an extra moment in consideration.
Even if it were not for the odd compulsion to speak honestly with Nunnally, he would have done it regardless. She deserves respect, after all, and one aspect of respect is truthfulness.
"You are wrong."
His expression softens to match his tone. When Elwin looks up at her finally, the smile he wears is warm and fond enough that it reaches the corners of his eyes. "My attraction to someone is not based upon their status, my lady. Rest assured of that." Another pause. "Two of my dearest, most cherished friends taught me the value and joy of loving unconditionally and without restraint."
He reaches for his glass again, fingers tapping thoughtfully on the rim before closing around it and bringing it once more to his lips. Once finished, he shakes his head.
"You charmed me from the moment that we had chanced to meet. You have shown yourself to be polite and kind, but you are also bold. Just like Lady Mist, you are to be respected, not controlled. You are so much more than just a beautiful face or a title -- you are free, and none can tame your spirit."
Brows raised. The prince almost, almost gasped, but bit back the sound at the last moment. A splash of color rose into his face, notably his cheeks; his gaze once more averted, this time his expression shifting to an almost bashful state.
"I --" Would he give offense? Would the princess look upon him with disdain for his sentimentality and lack of regard for her royal status? And yet, he continued, and his tone lowered to reflect that shy uncertainty that this was acceptable for him to say. "Our marriage may be one of obligation, yes, but I want only to know you. I could spend the entirety of my life with you... and never once grow tired of learning more about you. If anything, I believe it would be you who would not give someone like myself the time of day were it not for this arrangement."

@ofcrimson asked: Gives a light kiss upon his nose.
A gasp, followed by the slightest trace of color rising into his cheeks. Elwin hastily looked away, eyes darting across the floor to the side, before settling on one spot. He struggled to compose his thoughts.
"M... my lady." Well, it was a start. Not a very good one, but.
His hands fumbled around in the air, before taking gentle hold of one of her hands, that he could raise it to his lips and start to kiss the back of it. But the man stopped just short of doing so.
Ember was, by many, many measures, far above him. To garner affection from her was a great honor, and to show affection in kind... Would it be considered blasphemous? She was an Eikon -- akin to a deity, and he was just...
He was just an ordinary man, common as they came.
Still, he tentatively, shyly leaned in to place just the lightest and most gentle of kisses to her forehead in return.

@phoenixfiiire asked: 🧪 + "What would make you hate me?" No wasn't going to be accepted; everyone had a limit.
"Nothing."
Truth after truth, loathe though he was to share his feelings at this point. The compulsion remained, no matter how much he twisted his lips, or bit the inside of his cheek, or struggled to focus on anything but the conversations at hand.
"It will not matter what I say." More honesty. Fingers curled into a tight fist, and he leaned back in his chair, slamming that same fist against his chest -- gesturing at his heart. "But you could rip my heart from my chest, and I would love you just as strongly as I did on the day that you were born."

"The truth?" Miles repeated, initially unsure of what Joshua meant by that. He was telling the truth, or the truth as he knew it from the many nights of arguing between himself and Anabella. Had Anabella told Joshua differently?
If so, it wouldn't surprise him, not in the slightest.
Throwing back the rest of his drink then slamming the glass down upon the table, the father rose from his chair. His palms pressed firm against the wooden surface. "Will you listen to me, Joshua? Your mother may have loved you, yes, but her love for Clive would not have lasted. It had nothing to do with you --"
He grimaced. "Is her love the only love that matters?" One hand shot up to press against his forehead in effort to quell a burst of pain within. "I loved you. I love you. You and your brother may or may not have been expendable to her, but you two were everything to me, yet my word is the one that means nothing."
He listened quietly, heart sinking into his stomach with each word his father said.
Just because it was the truth that Miles believed, did not mean it was the actual truth. (This much, at the very least, Joshua was convinced of.)
"I... see." He spoke slowly, sadly, though not for the reasons his father would have believed. "
"... you're wrong. I know you are. I had hoped you would be able to say the truth... but it's not your fault."
Everything would have been better had he not been born.

@h-a-unted asked: 🧪 "Do you like me or could you like me, some day?" (Firecracker)
Elwin's lips pursed into a thin line. Even by his expression, it was evident that he was struggling against replying, but in the end -- whatever happened to be in his wine this night won out.
"Yes."
He hated to admit that. It burned his tongue, scalded his throat. It wasn't just their differences of views, which may as well have been a chasm at this point. No, there was also a more personal element to it... And that was the desperate desire not to leave himself open to anyone. Including her.
"No matter how hard I may try not to, yes. And if I die for it, I will come back to haunt you, just so you know."

@phoenixfiiire asked: 🧪"If I had not been born, mother would have loved Clive. She didn't hate him before me. I'm the reason she started being cruel to him." It wasn't a question so much as a statement of fact that he wanted to agree with. "Yes or no. She would have loved Clive if I hadn't been born."
His mouth fell open in a mixture of shock and dismay at the young man's claim. Even had "Miles" wanted to avoid addressing the subject(which he didn't, mind), something compelled him to speak openly with Joshua.
His brow furrowed deeply. There was hesitation, contemplation of what to say, how to phrase it, and then --
"You are wrong," his father blurted out, and from there, the words just kept spilling from the dam that had been his lips. "Her love was a poisoned apple, Joshua. Sweet to taste, deadly to take in. What she loved was the status, power, and esteem afforded to her by being mother to the next Dominant of Phoenix."
He shifted in his chair, scowling at the conviction of his own words. His voice seemed more than content to betray him this night.
"Had you not been born, her cruelty towards your brother would have come regardless. The moment that it became clear that he was not to awaken as the next Dominant, she would have loathed him, because in her eyes, a failure is a failure is a failure, and he was a failure because he was not the next Dominant. It never had anything to do with love for you, or love for Clive, and everything to do with her honor and prestige."

@glxciated asked:🧪 Why did you take me from my homeland?
"Because I was a fool." And down goes his head, so that it is face-down on the table. "Because I genuinely believed, in my ignorance, in my foolish idealism, that a bond fostered between you, Joshua, and Clive would pave the way for peace between our two nations."
She can't see it, but he's grimacing. A gloved hand gropes around for the cup to his left, nearly knocking it over and spilling its contents in the process of trying to grab it.
"So much fighting, so much bloodshed, for so long... And for what, in the end? I thought that your father and I could end it by entrusting the future to you three."

@speargifted asked:🧪 "Am I a disappointment to you?" ( Joshua )
"Absolutely not."
Alright, that answer might have been a touch too immediate, given his propensity to hesitate and contemplate his words before speaking. It caused his brow to furrow, while lips curved into a small frown. The drink in hand was placed carefully down on the table between them -- and this time, he did pause to consider his next words with somewhat more care.
"You never were, nor will you ever be," he insisted in a quieter, yet more assertive tone. "You, your brother, and Jill were the greatest part of my life -- and you still are. I am so, so endlessly proud of you, my boy, and I regret having never told you that sooner."
