Ever wonder if one day after ponyboy went to college and became a writer, he just stopped getting letters from curly. At first he thought maybe curly got locked up in the cooler but months pass and he still hasn't heard anything. His publisher is hounding him for a new book and the thought of curly gets pushed to the back of his mind. Slowly he starts to forget as he writes book after book making it hard for him to stay in contact with even his brothers. until years later he's visting Darry his wife and kids to have a little family picnic at the graveyard sitting next to thier parent's, brother , and the rest of the gang that had passed. when ponyboy takes a walk around only to find a little wooden cross with the words "curly shepherd" on it. Ponyboy just stands there staring at it realizing the boy he fell in love with way back when hadn't just stopped writing him, he hadn't found a better life like they use to dream or ponyboy use to dream he supposed curly never really cared. Curly had died, Curly had died and ponyboy hadn't known, hadn't been at his funeral, hell he didn't even know if curly had a funeral. As all this hits him he starts to cry to mourn someone who had been dead for years at this point. ponyboy makes a yearly visit to tusla now, to mourn not only his parents and brothers but the soulmate he lost to early.
