✨ New Newsletter is out! Ranking the Top 5 LGBTQ+ Black Mirror episodes with my new PrideBrary Checkout Card; a system for rating representation of marginalized characters! Hoping it's guide to finding stories that actually see you:
Tumblr media
PrideBrary Check Out Card:
More Than a Token – Are there one or more characters of color, LGBTQ+ characters, or marginalized genders? Do they have depth beyond stereotype?
Story Drivers – Do these characters drive the story forward with their decisions?
Beyond the Trauma – Do they experience a full emotional arc beyond oppression or trauma? (Even if the story is about trauma)
Dim The Halos – Characters don’t have to be perfect angels. Are they messy, complicated, and real?
Crossing The Intersection – Do we see characters with layered identities (race, gender, class, etc.) and are those intersections explored with care?
You can read the newsletter HERE!
PLEASE! What do you think of the new system? Would love some feedback!

I said what I said! But in all seriousness, Pride was a rebellion, it was a movement. Today it’s a celebration, which is great! Just being ourselves is a form of activism. But we still have a LOT to fight for. And we can't do that unless we know our history. Stay informed and edcuated out there! And of course...

District Judge Blocks Trumps Transgdender Military Ban! 🏳️‍⚧️
EVERY VICTORY, NO MATTER HOW SMALL, MATTERS! A district judge, Ana Reyes just blocked Trumps transgender military ban! 👏🏾This is a battle won, but the fight is far from over. The ruling will be challenged, and the struggle for equality will be too. It’s easy to feel exhausted, but when it's dark, remember: there are people out there fighting with us. Stay hopeful, stay active, and never stop fighting!

This is how you stand up for Trans rights and combat bigotry.
Representative Sarah McBride (DE) is a transgender woman. During this congressional hearing, Chairman Representative Keith Self (TX) purposefully misgendered her—TWICE.
McBride's response referring to him as "Madam Chairman" was not only the clapback of the century, but it also was a powerful way to expose the absurdity of bigotry. His goal was to demean her but she exposed Self's misgendering, like most bigotry, as the childish, petty, and deeply hypocritical tactic that it is. Go off girl!
But more than that, this moment is an excellent example as to why representation in government matters. When marginalized communities have a voice in the room, they can challenge these dehumanizing schemes both personally and in policy and bring visibility to them as well. McBride’s presence in Congress forces a system historically violent towards trans people to reckon with their existence—and their power!
Representative Keating's (MA) support shows how allies should act: by speaking up, calling out injustice, and using your privilege to protect those under attack.
This is how you do it! Well done McBride and Keating! 👏🏾

Martin Luther King & Bayard Rustin
🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
Tumblr media
When we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr., we must celebrate his righthand man, Bayard Rustin. Rustin was the one who convinced King to make protests nonviolent. Rustin came up with and organized the famous March on Washington. And Rustin was an openly gay man. Therefore he became a footnote in American History.
The erasure of LGBTQ+ contributions seeks to lessen our importance throughout history—but we were there and we were vital! Now, let’s think of the great things King and Rustin did TOGETHER. There's a film on Netflix called 'RUSTIN' that you can watch to learn more about this LGBTQ+ icon.

As we see a barrage of evil executive orders come in, they are not immediately enforceable and will takes months or years to implement.
That’s still not great, but don’t let these pile up to the point of hopelessness. Take a breath, and look community leaders who will fight it every step of the way.
