It happens to us all.  One day we’re motivated and the next day we’re in the dumps having ourselves a pity party.  Staying motivated is not easy.  If it were, everybody would do it.  But, it can be done.  You believe it can be done and that’s why you’re reading this right now - good for you! From Master To Disaster You may have felt good about a certain job or project when it began.  You were filled with enthusiasm and motivation.  Then you hit a few speed bumps and unexpected failures and your motivation waned.  You may have fallen into depression and decided to give up.  All of those positive thoughts turned into negative ones. We’ve all experienced these emotions that can cause us to give up prematurely.  All that upsurge of energy when we started a new project inevitably ends as dreams become reality and we lose our confidence. Control Your Emotions You must turn these negative emotions around and the best way to do that is to understand them, analyze them and what caused them. We lose our motivation as we lose our focus, our confidence and our direction. If you can learn to control these three emotions you can control your life. Emotion #1: Focus on what you really want. Be specific and be positive.  We generally think in terms of what we don’t have rather than focus on what we want.  Don’t focus on your fears but what you can do to overcome them.  Don’t focus on being poor but on a plan to create wealth. First European Work-Life Balance workshop successful
On the day of opening our European office, we held our first ever European workshop on "How to create a successful Work-Life Balance". Effective Ways to Deal with Day to Day Stress

Familiar Stress Situation?
Most families consist of two people who work along with a couple of children. Just the daily task of getting everyone up and out of the door each morning is stressful enough. Then on top of that you have to deal with your job, your boss and fellow co-workers. No wonder everybody is stressed out these days! Once you arrive home in the evening your day doesn't stop. You are now faced with getting dinner, helping with homework and doing chores around the home. How can you possibly deal with all of this and keep your sanity?
How To Relieve Stress - Tip 1
One of the first things you can do to relieve stress is to prioritise things. This includes homework, after school activities and the housework. For example if you can leave the laundry and vacuuming until the weekend then do so. Then delegate these chores to all your family members. Even very young children can be given tasks to do such as putting away shoes in the closest and helping clean things up.
How To Relieve Stress - Tip 2
If your child has a ton of homework to do then see what needs to be done first. This will also allow you to help them reduce their own stress levels too. Do the homework which needs to be handed in first. This can also reduce the amount of homework that has to be done in one night. Your children will learn how to prioritise their workload, will learn how to schedule tasks.
How To Relieve Stress - Tip 3
Look at just how many after school activities your children are participating in. If it is more than two things maybe it is time to cut back. This frees up both your child's time and your time. It is important that your children should have some time off from a lot of after school activities. Yes, it is great when they meet and play with other children, when they go after a hobby, when they play sports, and so on. Ask yourself whether you child does have to go for the surf life saving courses, the guitar lessons, basketball, baseball, soccer, rugby and ballet.
How To Relieve Stress - Tip 4
Another important thing to help reduce stress is to make time for the family. Try to plan one evening a week where you do something as a family together. This could be make dinner together or sit and watch a movie or play some type of game. When it comes to sitting down and eating dinner make use of the time. Ask your kids and your spouse how their day went. This gives the person time to 'vent' if necessary and allows you to discover if there are any potential problems lurking around the corner. By making time for your family and being aware of what each member is dealing with you can help reduce family stress. Communication is essential and one of the best ways to deal with stress before it becomes a major problem.
Got Stress At Work?
This is a different kind of stress, that may affect you in your family life. And, in many cases, stress at home does affect your performance at work. Prioritising your workload is certainly one important task you should apply. If you can delegate that task to someone who can assist, you will find that your level of stress will reduce. In general work situations are similar in many ways how many families are organised, or how families work. There is one major difference though: at work you go home with a paycheck, as a family member there is usually no such thing.

The link between Emotion and Energy
If you want to start feeling more energetic and getting more done then it is important to think about the way you are managing your emotion. Emotion is widely described as 'Energy in Motion'.

Emotion and energy levels are intimately linked and understanding this connection is the key for many people who want to feel more awake and productive.
Why Emotion Affects Energy
The brain is essentially a large web of connected neurons which psychologists call the 'connectome'. This connectome fires as we experience various things in the world or as we remember certain things and this then creates a variety of different subjective experiences for us. At the same time though, our brain's unconscious processes pay close attention to the nature of what we're focused on and then produce neurotransmitters accordingly. If what you're seeing is important then your brain will produce things like dopamine which make us more motivated and help us to remember things better. If what we're seeing makes us scared and is at all associated with pain or bad things happening, we'll produce norepinephrine (adrenaline) and become more focused and anxious. These same things then in turn affect energy levels. When we're alert and focused, this triggers changes in the sympathetic nervous system that increase our heartrate, our circulation and muscle tone all to make us more switched on and productive. On the other hand, when something seems dull and uninteresting, our brain tells us we're safe and able to go back to relaxing. Thus it will produce GABA and melatonin which settle us down and make us sleep.
The Optimum Emotional State for Energy
Boredom then is absolutely fatal for energy levels. If you find your energy flagging one of the very best things you can possibly do is to switch up your environment or make the task you're performing more interesting. This will immediately tell your brain something interesting is going on and you'll become more alert and awake again. This is also why depression and sadness are so bad for your energy levels. When you're depressed you struggle to be interested in anything or to care about anything. By doing something that makes you happy you can produce serotonin and oxytocin which will make you more positive and interested again. This is why spending time with friends, laughing or even exercising are so energizing. Understand this link and change the way you perceive certain events and you can raise your energy levels throughout the day!

Kick-Start your New Year for Success
Each and every year just around Christmas time people do reflect on what they have achieved and how they could kick-start the new year. Most of us are working on our New Year Resolutions. Now, I don’t call them New Year Resolutions because they only seem to be valid on New Year's Day. And therefore I would have to wait for New Year each and every time.

I like to set goals and then take pride in achieving them. For me this is a bit more than ticking things of a To-Do list, yet it just explains it the simple way. You can imagine that the harder the goals are, the better the feeling of achievement is. And every year you'd like to end on a high note, on reflecting on your achievements. It makes you feel good and gives you another Kick-Start for the next year. Personal and business goals are related in my opinion. When you had a great day at the office, you go home happy and the rest of the day will turn out well. If you have a bad morning at home, the day at the office may turn out the same.
How can you kick-start your year?
Let me introduce you to 3 simple things that will reflect on your personal and business life.
Write a mission statement.
A mission statement for the year outlines what you are passionate about, what your values are that you live against. My mission statement for 2018 is:  Everyday is a present, where I will have fun - seriously. Good days are when I have accomplished something, and even when a day turns out to be bad, I will have made progress and learned something new. The meaning of it is simple: I appreciate everything!
Create an Environment fostering your Success.
De-clutter your environment. Remove everything that does not support you in your goals. Focus on what is important to reach your goals, to accomplish tasks, remove distractions. This means that you clean out your desk of those old pens that don’t write, either file that paper pile on your desk or throw it away, if it's not important. Clean out your messy wardrobe at home. Make room for the good vibes of 2018, otherwise they can't get in. And don't let social media get in the way of doing something supporting your goals.
Be of Value and Produce Value Everyday.
If you sow, you will reap. Treat people around you the way you want to be treated yourself - in your personal life and in business. If you help others and do something nice for them in the first place, rest assured this will come back to you multiplied. Pay someone a compliment, follow up on a question someone asked you at work, shout that coffee for your colleague / friend, listen to their stories and spend quality time. Business is usually about high-touch/ high-trust relationships. In this age where we are so easily distracted through various channels, it’s especially easy to forget that. People do business with people they trust and people who make them feel special. Perhaps make it a habit to reach out to three possible or current customers every day. And just don't put an emphasis on asking whether you'll get that purchase order, whether you'll be making that deal; this is about adding value and fostering a relationship. The more people you help, the more profits you’ll see. Send them an article relevant to them. Connect them with a business opportunity - even though you might not get anything out of it right now. Relationship building means that you do something to help them close in on their goals or dreams. In return they will soon help you closing in on yours.
Kick-Start Through Emotions
The most important thing is that you yourself should be and act as if you were already in a happy place each and every day. Imagine you are at that point where you have achieved your biggest goal, you have reached that 'destination', the place you feel destined to go to for your success. Feel it, smell it, see it, hear it, taste it in your mind. Maybe prepare a vision board for your short and long term goals and reflect on it every morning. Your subconscious mind will already start working on it, so you will focus on getting there and being there.

Positive Affirmations Surround yourself with positive affirmations and you will initiate change in yourself, in your life and in the lives of others.  Positive thoughts enable you to achieve self-confidence and self esteem.  With these qualities you can motivate and inspire yourself. Believe in yourself and others will believe in you and you in them. Motivational Quotes Most motivational quotes come from learned and successful people and they’re useful in the work place and at home today and throughout the rest of your life.  Just as happiness is contagious as you surround yourself with happy people, positive thinking is derived from surrounding yourself with positive quotes. Change the way you motivate yourself Many find it helpful to print up several of their favorite motivational sayings and place them where they’ll be seen frequently each day such as on your desk, your computer or on your mirror.  What you see each day contributes to what your mind thinks and if you’re thinking it, you are consciously or subconsciously working toward that end. How To Motivate Yourself

The one question...
If you were to climb to the top of the mountain and finally reach that all-knowing guru who holds the secret to life and are granted one question, what would it be? Some would ask the secret to great wealth.  Others would seek to learn how to live a long and healthy life without aging.  A select few might want to know how to motivate themselves and others.

What is required to motivate ourselves?
If we acquire the skills to motivate ourselves and others then we have the basic tools to acquire almost everything else that a good life requires.  It might be disappointing when the old man at the top of the mountain answers simply, “To know thyself and be kind.”
The Answer?
Usually you do not get the one and only answer. However, the response from the old man on top of the mountain being "To know thyself and be kind", though disappointing to many, are wise words and hold much truth, but it’s a pretty broad answer.  To motivate or be motivated requires learning and dedication.  Motivation is a skill that can be easily learned if you possess dedication.  We use motivation daily at home and at work.  Subconsciously we’re striving to motivate ourselves and those we come in contact with.
To Motivate Is a Balance Act
We use our innate motivation skills to acquire the results we seek.  We use these skills on our spouse, our co-workers and our friends everyday to get our way.  It’s a delicate balance between communication and persuasion.  Maybe the sage knew what he was talking about when he advised to know yourself and be kind to others.  It’s long been said that we attract more flies with honey than vinegar. Use Rewards To Motivate Offering rewards is an often used motivational tool.  If you dangle a reward on a stick whether it’s dangling in front of you or someone else it can be quite an incentive.  The greater the reward usually the more productive you get.  Not many people toil for the sheer love of working anymore. Set a deadline Not only do people balk at working for nothing, they must have a deadline or it will never get done.  Would you pay taxes if you were allowed to pay them at your own discretion?  Many still won’t begin a project until the deadline looms near.  You’re more likely to complete a project if you impose a deadline. Set goals Setting a goal lets you know where you’re going.  It’s hard to hit a moving target and a goal helps you focus on where you want to be and at a certain time.  Use both short and long term goals.  The short-term goals can be steps to reach the long-term objective.  Each time you satisfy a short-term goal, you’ll feel your inner motivation swell. Expectations Expect the best and settle for nothing less.  If you’re doing the task or someone else is doing the task for you, insist on the best results or at the very least demand improvement over the last task.  Pride should motivate you to do your very best. Enjoy Enjoy your work by making it fun and stimulating.  Work that’s fun doesn’t seem like work at all.  Stay stimulated by doing various projects that take you a step closer to the major goal.  Stay happy and productive and you’ll stay motivated.
