You know, I had assumed that when Charles said he didn’t have a therapist, that that meant he’d never been to therapy, but I don’t think that’s the case, actually, cause what kinda person, especially an older person, who’s never been to therapy says “Let’s stay away from blaming words like “fault”. Neutral language, please.”

I was listening to this song and it just made me think of Jax and what he told Pomni at the start of episode six. They're in a fucked up cartoon world so who fucking cares. You should just have fun and do whatever cause nothing's real. Pomni and others have tried to get him to act with more compassion, realize that they are real, they are humans, and that being cartoons has not stripped them of their depth, but Jax insists that it's best to think his way.

He flattens the world to cope with his own horror at the situation he's in, and that results in everyone hating him because he acts like such a rotten jerk. And that's intentional. He uses off-putting behavior to distance himself from others so he won't have to experience the pain of losing someone he cares about, or potentially contributing to that loss. He doesn't want them to hate him, but he NEEDS them to hate him, and he NEEDS to hate them back. The problem is, it doesn't prevent any pain and he ends up sad anyway, on top of wallowing in his own disgust and self hatred.

But he can't get himself to abandon the mask, abandon that coping mechanism, because he's too afraid to show any vulnerability.
