I like to think Shadow is the jealous type, and it shows after Shadow started falling for Sonic. Not in the boring "omg he's talking to other guys, how dare he?!" way though - instead, Shadow's jealousy rears its head when specifically combat is involved. Allow me to demonstrate.
Sonic faces a new opponent. Grinning, he complements their fighting and says he hasn't had a challenge like that in a while. Meanwhile - Shadow scoffs, glaring at Sonic for suggesting such a thing. But internally he's like - What does Sonic mean he hasn't had a good challenge in a while?! He and Sonic literally fight on a regular basis! Sonic is supposed to be impressed by just him. He is literally the ultimate life form, the most powerful guy Sonic knows so why-?
Shadow then proceeds to absolutely obliterate the new challenger to once again remind Sonic of how powerful and cool he is. Fighting and beating each other to a pulp is their thing - and no random schmuck out here is gonna take that away
