I saw everyone on twitter tearing Emma Watson apart for saying she’s self - partnered instead of single and decided to watch her interview for British Vogue to know what the hell was she trying to say with that. I was very surprised to find a 30 minute video in which amongst other things she talks about the following:
She felt undeserving when she was appointed as UN Women goodwill ambassador and sought out Gloria Steinem to learn about feminist activism.
She thinks the criticism she received for being a white feminist was useful because it made her educate herself.
She says there’s a desperate need to reform the education system in the UK to change the way they are taught the history of how Britain has been involved in foreign affairs and how they profited from slavery.
She felt anxious about approaching 30 because there’s a lot of pressure to have a husband and a baby by then and she’s still figuring her life out.
She was so young when she was casted in Harry Potter that she doesn’t remember much of her life before it and she went to therapy to deal with her issues with fame. She used to feel very guilty for being unhappy because she thought she should enjoy fame more.
The interviewer is a transgender woman and they discuss transgender issues for a while. Emma is in regular contact with a trans child which makes the topic of trans rights emotional for her because she’s very anxious for this kid’s safety.
She talks about her role as Meg March in the new Little Women movie and defends that unlike what many people say choosing to be a wife and a mother doesn’t make Meg a less feminist character and quotes a line from the movie, “Just because my dreams are different than yours it doesn’t mean they are unimportant.”
She wishes more people would realize she’s not Hermione Granger but also understands why they want to see that in her because Hermione is a symbol for her too.
She used to think she could never be happy without a partner and now that she has learnt to navigate that better and is genuinely happy single she’s started to think of herself as self - partnered in contrast to the time when she thought of herself as single = lonely.
Every media outlet decided to focus in an out of context quote from the three minutes she talked about her dating life when the actual interview had a lot of depth and way more important things were discussed. I’m sad and angry but not surprised.

Crime News, November 6th, 2019: Justen Grant Hall (38) is scheduled to be executed by the state of Texas later today.
Justen Hall was sentenced to death in 2005 for the murder of 29-year-old Melanie Billhartz in El Paso County. Hall strangled Billhartz to death and chopped off her fingers with a machete before dumping her body in an isolated area of the Chihuahuan Desert. Hall committed the murder after Billhartz threatened to go to the police after she fought with one of Hall’s associates in his white supremacist group. Although it is not the crime for which he was sentenced, Hall is also believed to have murdered 28-year-old Arlene Diaz in 2002. Diaz’s body was found dumped by a road near the Texas-New Mexico border, having been fatally shot.
Hall is actually eager to be executed, having withdrawn his appeals and urged the state to carry out his execution. Lawyers who continue to act on Hall’s behalf however say this is testament to his mental illness, and as such should prevent him from being executed. Hall actually attempted suicide whilst on death row, and has written of his desire to die in letters published by lawyers. While acting as his own attorney, Hall wrote in 2016: “These walls 24/7 have broken me. It is taking every last ounce of will to even make it from day to day.” Hall underwent a competency test after making these requests, and was found to be fit to make such decisions.
Hall is currently awaiting his execution (which will be administered through a lethal injection of pentobarbital) in the death house of Texas’ Huntsville Unit. He has no pending appeals, so there should be no obstructions that prevent Hall’s execution from being carried out tonight. The last appeal made on Hall’s behalf (although without his approval) was rejected last month, after lawyers claimed he was mentally unfit to be executed. Speaking to the Associated Press, Hall has admitted carrying out the murders of both Billhartz and Diaz, and that his previous appeals were just stalling tactics. His execution is on track to take place any moment now.

High school sweethearts, Nicholas Kunselman and Stephanie Hart-Grizzell, were students at Columbine High School on the 20th April, 1999, when Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold perpetrated the Columbine Massacre. While the duo survived the school shooting, they would be murdered less than a year later.
It was approximately 10PM on the 13th of February, 2000, when Stephanie left her home for the Subway shop just a mile away from Columbine High School. Nicholas was closing up the shop that night and Stephanie went to meet him. Nearly three hours later, an off-duty employee driving past the shop noticed that the lights were still on and went in to investigate. As she approached the shop, a young man walked out that she didn’t recognise. She found 16-year-old Stephanie and 15-year-old Nicholas shot to death.
An investigation uncovered that no money was missing from the till meaning it wasn’t a robbery gone wrong. The girl who discovered the bodies described the man she saw to a composite sketch artist. She described him as being white and around 16 to 20-years-old. She said he was 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 8 inches and weighed somewhere between 150 and 170 pounds. He was clean shaven with blondish hair and was wearing blue jeans, tennis shoes, a black baseball cap and a black coat with a red shirt.
The investigation also uncovered that a drug ring was operating from the shop and led to a number of arrests. There was no evidence, however, that either teenager took drugs. There were numerous tips over the forthcoming years and each was scrupulously investigated. Nevertheless, their murders remain unsolved.
