On Steven Universe we'd have writer's meetings once a season. Here is an outline I was given of some then-unproduced episodes we were going to be making.

A theoretical drawing I did during The New Lars.

By the time we were writing that episode, I was aware of speculation online that Lars was possibly a trans man struggling with dysphoria. Being one of the writers who wrote for him the most, I was open to the interpretation and began pitching ideas for him in a way where one could more easily see him as Cis OR trans.

I found and pitched the name "Laramie" because its unisex and means "Tears of Love".

It wasn't until some time later that I realized that I too am a trans man. I didnt know it at the time, but my own dysphoria was being expressed thru my writing.
