If you know me well enough, you’ll know that I am always mixing and matching my clothing and sometimes even remaking jewelery. See how a simple statement piece can be worn in different ways. A favorite souvenir piece from my husbands travels! Look 1: Mustard Silk Saree + Royal Blue Bordered Blouse ( Love contrasting colors.) Look 2 : Simple White Blouse + Jeans or Trousers + A Forever 21 Boyfriend Blazer . The necklace adds a flare to both the formal & casual.

Volume 2 of RCD Choreo Lab AAYAAM, Dimensions of the mind has been released. A glimpse at how one concept, one idea, one set way of life can be viewed and accepted in so many ways. In today’s world where many feel the pressures of conforming to the norm, we manage to find our own understanding, our own path and meaning in a world that values a uniform lifestyle, with a set path for all. This piece used 3 choreographed sequences, rendered in different speeds, order and direction, pairs and trios. Life is all about changing paths, and as we go through our lives, working and living by societies norms, life creates its own paths for us, some alone, sometimes with dear ones and some in its own separate direction altogether. Here’s to living a life in dimensions.
Choreographed & Directed by Reshmi Chetram Dave

RNHQ is happy to present to you Umit & Sonal Shah, a husband and wife duo in Silver Spring, Maryland who have mastered the art of balance. With three beautiful children, careers and a zest for life, Umit & Sonal are what we call a #liveWELL power couple.
We had a chance to catch up with Umit & Sonal and asked them what motivated them to make life altering changes, to choose the path of active living, and what they are hoping to pass on to their children through their actions.
Their engagement ceremony back in 1998 was a moment of reality for them. It is always an eye opener when you have a moment to look at yourself from a different viewpoint and that is exactly how they felt after receiving their photos back from their function. Sonal said, “We knew we had put on some weight, but we couldn’t believe what we looked like.” It was from that moment on, that this pair decided to change their lifestyle. In 14 months up to their wedding day, Sonal lost 20 lbs and Umit lost 25 lbs.
Since 1999, Umit and Sonal have been making conscious decisions about their lifestyle and are still finding ways to make improvements with their nutrition. As our bodies get accustomed to our workouts, you tend to find yourself having to switch things up and take it up a notch before seeing positive results again. “We always took our fitness seriously by working out regularly, but as we got older we felt as though we plateaued. The workouts weren’t challenging enough and we realized we had to be stricter with our nutrition in order to get even better results.” - Sonal
That brings them to today. They have been incorporating a number of different workouts each day which targets different muscle groups. They have been rotating between HIIT interval training, weights, plyo, yoga, pilates and many different types of cardio exercises. We all know that exercise alone is just one component of a healthy lifestyle, however the most important is nutrition. Sonal & Umit were dedicated to learn how to cook healthier versions of the foods they love. They are always finding better ways to make their traditional Indian dishes that would not leave them feeling guilty. "If anyone is familiar with Indian food, they know it can be loaded with too much oil, butter and/or cream. People often think if it’s "healthy”, it may not taste good, but that’s not the case at all. The food tastes better and lighter, while fueling your body properly.“ - says the couple.
Lastly, we asked them what message they want to pass on to their children. "Healthy eating is what we want to teach our children. Their taste buds are accustomed to the clean and nutritional foods we provide them. They want to eat what we eat because –> IT TASTES GOOD.”
We are so happy to have been able to connect with Sonal & Umit and hear about their empowering lifestyle changes. It is an inspiration to hear about love, wellness, and life from two people who are building their world together.
We want to wish our followers and their families a very happy Family Day!

During this past week in Toronto, connoisseurs of Kathak, classical music and the indian arts gathered at the Fairview Library Theatre from August 13th-17th to witness the growth of the Kathak Artform. Kathak Mahotsav Canada an event created by Rina Singha, the pioneer of Kathak Dance in Toronto, is a platform that was created with hopes to inspire new work, and create longevity for the Kathak artform in North America. Reshmi had the esteemed pleasure of accompanying Deepti Gupta, alongside Ravi Singh on Tabla & Sach Dhanjal on Dilruba & on Saturday our Tarana Dance Senior Artists performed a Tarana ; Raag Yaman. It was music to all of our ears, the sweet sound of lehera, ghungroo & tabla together is something that is indescribable, it just takes you over.

Kathak has always been a part of my life, as a toddler I was emersed into the world of classical dance by being by my mother, Deviekha Chetrams side while she taught classes all over Toronto since 1989. I grew up harnessing my love for the artform by travelling to India to grow, mentoring with Kathak leaders & given wonderful opportunities to perform on both a national & international platform. Angikam is a North American chapter for emerging and established Kathak Artists, teachers & choreographers to connect to one another. Through the Angikam Network, teachers who've spent their lives working and grooming their students now have a platform to showcase their disciples, academies, work and connect with one another. Angikam is a support vessel for the Kathak Artform in North America, a tool for teachers, schools, students and performers to utilise so that together as a community we can continue to grow, create work, assist one another & continue to break ground in innovation & preserve this beautiful artform. This years seminar is happening at the Citadel in Toronto on September 25th, 26th & 27th featuring seminars during the day & The Choreographers Voice showcases at night which will be showcasing the work in progress of choreographers who are a part of the seminar. The Choreographers Voice showcase is also an official participant on the Citadel's "Bright Nights" festival. If you are interested in becoming a part of Angikam 2015, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me, I'm here to answer all of your questions.
