Biography.

upbringing.

born on october 22nd, 2000, was our kang yubi. son of a dedicated nurse and a hardworking chef, yubi had somewhat of an uneventful upbringing. being an only child, and with his parents being so occupied with work, the vast majority of his infanthood was spent with his grandparents— he had quite an infatuation with the tv show pucca, which is grandma could never seem to understand. during his elementary school years, yubi thrived academically, and found himself wholeheartedly yearning for his school days. he was an incredibly outgoing and vibrant child, whose sociality knew no bounds— he was happy to talk to anyone and make friends with anybody who crossed his path. 

however, when hitting high school, yubi’s spark for school began to die down as he picked up additional hobbies; he found he would much rather spend his time at the beach, on his board in the sea, over stressing about his trigonometry (who needs sin cos and tan anyways?). however, with bribery and pushing from his parents, he managed to barely scrape a pass in his exams, though it wasn’t quite enough for university. of course, this only led to a strain on his relationship with his parents, and an ultimatum was provided; should he wish for them to continue caring and providing for him, he simply had to continue in his studies, no matter the cost. 

and so, yubi undertook a diploma in general health management, studying psychology, physiology, mathematics, anatomy, and sociology. deciding to focus on his only real passion in life, yubi was then accepted to studying paediatric nursing at yeonhwa university, where he manages to maintain a connection to his family, though the physical distance is far enough to maintain his peace and comfort. 

family.

mother yoon eunseol, 51, nurse. an incredibly stern lady who lacks any semblance of maternal instinct; a cold woman who is driven to achieve what she puts her mind to. has driven yubi to "reach for the stars" in her eyes, though to anoyne else it would be clearly obvious that she has simply forced him into pursuing a lifestyle that simply wasn’t for him. it’s no wonder he was relieved when he was able to move away. yubi is able to fake contentment when he visits for the holidays, though there's no point in questioning why he never overstays his welcome.

father kang hankyeom, 54, chef. whilst their relationship is also strained, yubi sees eye to eye with his father far easier than he does with his mother. hankyeom is a quiet and timid man, who often sits back and lets his wife take charge of most situations— often finding it best to sit back and not get involved during disagreements between his son and wife. whilst hankyeom has never intentional perpetuated anything to cause yubi to think ill of him, yubi can't help but feel some form of resentment for his father's passivity throughout his adolesence.

siblings kang yui, 34. yui is yubi's older sister, and frankly, there isn't a whole lot to say about their relationship. yui was considered to be eunseol's first victim, and moved out as soon as she was 18, leaving little 8 year old yubi alone at home with his parents. yubi found it hard to forgive her for that— whilst he understands, and probably would've done the same had he had the option, he can't help harbouring some bitterness pertaining to that feeling of abandonment he gets from her.

maternal grandparents baek myungsook (78), yoon minchul (80). have always encouraged yubi to pursue his true passions in life and are incredibly understanding of the way that eunseol can behave. would often allow yubi to spend the weekend at their house when it was simply too much to stay home. offered him support and help with his academic work and continue to support him through university.

paternal grandparents hwang boyoung (81), kang jongyul (deceased at 55). yubi is not very close with his paternal grandmother at all. his grandfather passed prior to his birth, and his grandmother has kept her distance from the family. for no particular reason; she's just a relatively aloof individual, it seems.

extended family one aunt on his father's side of the family.

personality description

likes yubi would describe himself as a relatively bland individual. when asked about his interests, he struggles to list any of significance; he's quite a fan of science fiction, specifically focusing on areas such as apocalyptic fiction. yubi also collects a handful of manga series', as well as spending his hard-earned and sparse money on figurines that he could probably survive without. considered an old soul, yubi has an ever so slight fixation on musical theatre and operas, with his personal favourite opera being madame butterfly. some of his other likes include the scent of freshly cut grass, surfing, marine life, bedrotting, and threatening to drop out of university.

dislikes yubi absolutely loathes the rain. it's such a trivial hatred he has- who really enjoys getting soaked through to their bones and leaving all of their clothes and personal belongings drenched? but frankly, there isn't too much yubi is distasteful of. a few that would come to mind immediately include wasps, spring time, poor table etiquette, and his early morning classes.

positive attributions perhaps he's biased, but yubi would consider himself to be a generally kind and thoughtful individual. of course, being in his profession, these attributes are imperative, though that doesn't diminish the amount of pride he withholds regarding them. furthermore, yubi's dedication and commitment to his work and those around him is admirable; whilst he loathes his in-class learning, when he's learning practically and in the environment of a hospital, yubi is in his space. others who know him may describe him as patient and tolerant; understanding that he personally had a tough time with his education, yubi truly believes that everyone deserves an equal chance in life to succeed and thrive, regardless of the environment in which they may be struggling.

negative attributions to put it simply, yubi is lazy. yes, he may thoroughly love his work and his recreational surfing and extracurricular clubs, yubi absolutely hates any semblance of in-class learning or at-home learning he's obliged to participate in. he would sooner wash his flatmate's stale dishes before picking up and browsing a textbook to revise for an exam. furthermore, yubi would often describe himself as somewhat of a klutz— more-so in the forgetful manner. he couldn't tell you just how many times he had decided to turn up to his lectures or seminars, only to realise he had actually left his laptop at home. or his pencil case. or his notebook. or his textbook. it's a slight issue. a few other not-so positive attributions of yubi's personality would include his abrupt and direct, blunt manner of speaking on occasion, his disregard for those who are not close to him, and his social ineptness.
