My 20s will be my most treasured decade.
I learned to play tennis in my 20s
I learned to put myself first in my 20s
I became more confident in my 20s
I defined my style in my 20s
I am at my healthiest in my 20s
I am more mature in my 20s
I developed 6 hobbies in my 20s
I made my own philosophy in my 20s
I study better in my 20s
I make friends based on shared values in my 20s
I started wearing SPF in my 20s
I have learned the most lessons in my 20s
I practiced balance in my 20s
I started driving in my 20s
I started speaking publicly in my 20s
I learned to bake in my 20s
I learned to stop comparing myself in my 20s
I began reading every week in my 20s
I became more curious in my 20s
I started investing in my 20s
You may learn somethings as a teenager or as 20 something year old, what’s important is that you learn. Growth is a continuous journey. I’m still learning, growing, and becoming.

Things to Learn Now That Future You Will Love You For
Personal finance (budgeting, the magic of compound interest through investing, etc)
A love for reading/learning
Exercise that feels like play to you (e.g yoga, swimming, weight training)
Learning to not take things personally
Time management (stop procrastinating. like right now)
Trust me, the above is a reminder to me as much as it is to whoever is reading this. Don't waste time.

Best advice to give someone in early 20’s
Don't fall victim of FOMO. Most of the "fun" activities you see advertised on social media or by the greater youth culture are detrimental to your growth as a person and will pay back in negative ways later on: partying, consuming alcohol/drugs, being promiscuous, recklessly spending money traveling and buying food, etc.
Instead use your precious youth working on layering the foundations for your life and growing as person, focus on:
• Gaining financial literacy
• Acquire proper manners and etiquette to best blend in with important people and be taken more seriously in business settings or formal gatherings
• Learn how to properly dress and keep a prudent demeanor. Avoid at all costs replicating the fast fashion trends of social media and the culture of neurotic impulsivity many of your age peers may have
• Work hard to overcome childhood traumas that keep you from properly interact with other and affect your own self-image
• Build valuable connections from people who can mentor you
• Be active networking with people who are in similar professional or interests groups as you to have connections for future projects
• Spend your time reading self development books and applying the learned concepts into your life
• Work hard and learn to invest your money, prioritize exercise and proper dieting to keep your vitality high, your health and help you preserve your youth.
• Acquire transferable skills that you can use in different scenarios such as: learning how to sell, learning multiple languages, improving your emotional intelligence, etc.
Despite what the world might try to yell you your 20s are the most important years of your life, wasting them doing futile hedonistic and irresponsible activities may feel comfortable in the moment but let me assure you will pay the price for your actions sooner or later. Be conscious of your youth and use your time and resources as wisely as possible so that you may have a life of success, greatness and fulfilment. Plant the seed now, your future self will be thank you later.

3 Books Every Twenty-Something Should Read (By a Twenty-Something)
(In no particular order)
The Defining Decade by Dr. Meg Jay
This book has been my go-to for various points of my college (and now post-grad) career. Whenever I felt that I was "lost" or had a "mid-life crisis", this book always came to the rescue.
In this book, Meg Jay goes through how to best use your 20s. Whether that be through relationships, hobbies, education and career choices. She also expands on the concept of developing identity capital which is a collection of things that make you, you. One of my favourite quotes by Meg is, "“Twentysomething is like airplanes, planes just leaving New York City-bound somewhere west. Right after takeoff, a slight course change is a difference between landing in either Seattle or San Diego. But once a plane is nearly in San Diego, only a big detour will redirect it to the northwest.”
2. Quit Like a Millionaire by Bryce Leung and Kristy Shen
This is a personal finance book that details how a Canadian couple, Bryce and Kristy, retired in their thirties. Both working as software engineers, they sought to buy a home in Toronto but found that getting into the housing market was out of reach. Instead, they opted to use the money that could have gone towards a house into the stock market where they were both able to retire and travel the world.
Reading this opened my eyes to the various possibilities and routes to financial independence. One that isn't defeatist about the current housing market, but rather optimistic about other possibilities!
3. The Almanack of Naval Ravikant
The writer, Naval Ravikant, is the founder of various companies in Silicon Valley and wrote a guide to building wealth and emotional well-being unlike anything else I've seen. Most books I read surrounding generating wealth are pretty redundant, but what I found by reading this book was that everything written was unique yet so simple.

The AI version of you is a beast at getting shit done, there are no emotions involved, just straight up actions. AI version of you wakes up early and doesn’t check her phone because she doesn’t need emotional validation from the world, she’s got a gym class to hit. She’s laser focused. She’s action oriented. She’s a machine. She’s making progress. Think of all your skills and talents that live within you, that would have space to grow and progress if you tapped into the AI version of yourself? Think of all the times you don’t do anything, because you’re not in the mood, you need a TikTok break, you’re tired, emotional, you have Netflix to watch? AI Version of you is ahead, she is winning, thriving. So this is your sign to tap into your inner AI version. Become sharp. Your best self. Read that book in record time. Cease everyday, stop wasting time. This is your fucking life, go grab it by the balls.

Taking a "Gap Summer"
I recently graduated from nursing school in June. Unlike most of my classmates who have already taken their board exams and are officially working as nurses, I decided to take a longer break. These past four years haven't been easy. I know deep down that I am not ready to jump into the workforce just yet. Switching from a student to an adult identity requires me to examine the life I want out of myself, so I decided to put a plan into place to ensure I become... her.
Here are the habits I want to build in the near future:
Attend yoga 5x/week and walk long distances (at least 10k steps a day) 2x/week
Read for at least an hour every day (I will definitely post book reviews/learnings to hold myself accountable)
Attend the next Black Girl Book Club in my city (So excited)
Wake up before 7am
Stay off of social media (with the exception of Tumblr)
Work on writing my book (at least 1hr/day)
Study for my board exam (the NCLEX) 6x/week which I plan to take in September
So far it has been two weeks, and I already feel so much lighter and more disciplined. Especially getting rid of Tiktok! It has given me so much time to focus on hobbies that I am proud of.
