The knock on your door is short and sharp. No rhythm, no fanfare—just Iwaizumi. You know it’s him before you even open it.

You swing the door wide and blink at the man standing awkwardly in your hallway. He’s holding… something. Behind his back. Badly.

Your eyes narrow. “Haji.”

He grunts. “Hey.”

There’s a pause. He shifts from foot to foot, then, almost like it’s an afterthought, he reveals the bouquet he’s been hiding like it’s contraband.

They’re your favorites.

Not the kind sold in easy, plastic-wrapped bunches at the convenience store. Not even the trendy ones florists like to push. No—these are the specific flowers you mentioned once in passing during a lazy Sunday walk about three months ago.

Your heart does a full-on pirouette.

“They were just… there,” he mutters, eyes doing everything in their power not to look at you. “Passed a stand. It’s nothing.”

You raise an eyebrow, fingers gently brushing over the petals. “Fourteen blocks from your gym?”

He shrugs, but his ears are pink.

“Mm. So, totally casual.”

“Totally,” he deadpans. “Shut up and take the flowers.”

You do. Carefully. Reverently.

He doesn’t meet your eyes until you say, quieter, “They’re perfect, Haji. Thank you.”

And then—finally—he lets himself look at you. There’s something soft behind the usual steel in his gaze. Something warm.

“Yeah, well… I remember stuff,” he mumbles, voice rougher now, like this softness is a bench press he wasn’t quite ready for. “You like them.”

You smile, full and slow, letting it bloom between you like the bouquet in your hands.

“I love them.”

He scowls—not really—but you catch the way the corners of his mouth twitch like they want to smile back.

Later, he helps you put them in a vase. Stands next to you, just a little too close. Pretends he’s interested in the vase, not in your face.

And you let him pretend. Because you know.

It’s not nothing.

It never was.
