Hello! It's very kind of you for you to determine this blog to be the best source of information on the subject! I will do my best to give a full explanation.

Fictionkin is a subset of a term known as otherkin, which refers to any innate identity as something or someone other than your current body/form. For example, someone otherkin would have a human physical body in this life, but may have an innate identity as, perhaps, a wolf, or a cat. This could have many reasons; two common ones are spiritual reasons such as past lives, or psychological reasons such as your identity aligning due to neurodivergency or trauma. However, there are many different reasons and ways to be otherkin, as many as there are individual people. A general tell is that, if you feel comfortable referring to your possible kintype (the identity you may feel otherkin as) with first person pronouns ("I am ___", "___ is me"), then you might be otherkin!

Fictionkin, as a subset of otherkin, refers to an innate identity as a fictional entity. Oftentimes, this refers to fictional characters, but it can also extend to fictional creatures and the like. Mod Prism's kintypes are all past lives (aligning with the many world theory in metaphysics), however we have a good few psychological fictionkin as well.

All of this falls under an umbrella known as alterhuman, which means any identity falling outside the realm of "normal" humanity. It is even possible for system members such as fictives to be otherkin on top of their fictive identity. You may see a lot of discourse over "chosen" or "unchosen" identities, but eventually, you will likely find that none of this matters as much as the simple fact that otherkin refers to an innate identity. At its center, the term "I am" is the core of otherkin.

Other terms you may encounter are "kinfirm" (to confirm a kintype as yours), "kin" (short for otherkin, or the otherkin identity, or referring to the act of kinfirming), "kinning" (referring to the act of kinfirming, or simply being otherkin in general), "kintype" (the otherkin identity), "doubles" (two people with the same kintype; not inherently derogatory), and "kinnie" (a slang term for an otherkin person). Many may try and attribute some of these words to certain types of otherkin or even misinformed other alterhumans (such as otherlink or otherhearted), but many different otherkin beings use many different types of language, so make certain to check what the individual is comfortable with before using shorthand or slang terminology for other people.

ah, Hey again, it’s me, the anon you just talk to about the kin thingy, sorry, I didn’t know, I just say the kin assignment thing before the new things and I thought I could ask, sorry! (I know kinda gives aren’t just relating to a character- I’m used to normal kinning-)

No worries! Though, many people that use the terms kin/kinning/kinnie (suh as us) are in fact genuine fictionkin/otherkin whose identities are innate - anyone that "relates to" and call themselves 'kin are misidentified copinglinkers, otherlinkers, and otherhearted. I’m a normal, kind, carefree person when people first meet me, with a mix of kindness, smarts, and a small bit of people pleasing, you have a normal me! Yet when people do something that triggers me, I get all serious, most of the time, holding a grudge.

Hi! Sorry, fictionkin isn't a "relation to" a character, but an innate identity as a character! It can be hard to figure out that identity sometimes though, so that's why we did kin assignments.
