I think one thing this fandom doesn't address & appreciate enough is how Annabeth jumps into a crashing helicopter WITHOUT ANY HESITATION to save Rachel, A GIRL SHE IS SUPPOSED TO HATE. Annabeth-haters never get tired of criticizing her for being mean to Rachel yet never seem to remember that Rachel wouldn't even be alive if It's not for Annabeth's courage, wisdom and decisiveness. Like wdym we don't see Annabeth apologizing to Rachel on page so Rachel shouldn't forgive her?? If I were Rachel I'd forgive her for everything the moment she gets into that fucking helicopter. I'd instantly fall in love with her. I'd be willing to be her best friend forever. Do you not realize how legendary that action is?? Do you not realize that at that moment, Annabeth is Rachel's knight in shining armor instead of that mean girl who treats her poorly because of a boy? (Both identities are valid, that's for sure. But it's so tiring that people keep scolding Annabeth over her mistakes while forgetting all the great things she's done. You know it kinda spells *cough*misogyny*cough*.)

And we definitely don't appreciate their friendship enough either. Like they literally have an instinctive connection even when they don't like each other. Of course they'd become friends when that one problem between them is solved!! Please stop invalidating female friendship just because you can't stand a teenage girl behaving like a teenage girl. My god 👿👿

ATHENAAAAAAAAAAA

Second try at an Athena design and I’m happy to report this is much more like how I’ve been picturing her in my head for the past 4-6 years.

Some things and headcanons i’d like to note::

- while I didn’t draw it here, I do imagine some sigil like markings on Athena’s back and arms, representing where her owl wings come out when she chooses to have them appear

- not sure why but i’ve always imagined athena with both gold and silver armor aspects. i think seeing different interpretations over the years influenced that decision, where i couldn’t choose between the two lol. didn’t draw it here but i would have designed her shield the same color as her spear

- gilded boots! again, did not draw them here because the lineart and coloring here already took 4-5 days so wtv. i imagine them mostly gold, looking like your typical grecian armor, with silver accents and snakes carved into them

- i headcanon that annabeth looks very similar to athena in facial features and hair type, that if Annabeth were to ever style her hair in braids, the resemblance would be uncanny (why she sticks to a ponytail instead)

- i know a lot of people design athena with blue elements and while i think that’s an awesome design choice and i don’t disagree with it, my personal headcanons have always imagined athena with more gold, red, white and sunset kinda color themes. while being a goddess of wisdom, weaving, etc. she’s also a goddess of war at the end of the day and i think red really incorporates that well. in my aries design (which i will post eventually) he too has red elements, just a lot more black and bronze.

- the golden string in the background is an attempt at her golden thread in which she weaves with. i actually think more weaving athena representation is in order!! i totally see her using it in battle and overall taking a much bigger presence in her godly abilities!!

I do some fanfic writing on the side and have been working on a one shot between Percy and Annabeth where they both get trapped in this mythical island that i created in my own brain, and some hectic magic stuff goes down

May or may not have turned their attire more ancient greek like - or at least, this was my attempt at that.

p.s. annabeth’s hair is SO fun to draw, it’s insane. I think my inspiration from old star fire comics really shows here.

Drew these while listening to the Troy Saga and honestly the lyrics fit so well with Annabeth fitting that Odysseus’ spot. Especially during My Goodbye, I mean holy shit the way the emotion between the two voices fit into Annabeth and Athena’s mother-daughter relationship is insane.

Expect way more epic the musical and percy jackson cross overs soon because I have been world building SO much in my head.

My take on Annabeth if Athena were like, cmon girl, its time to kick some ass, and blessed her with the true potential of a demigod of war. Love me some dark Annabeth. The girl is feral.

I also love my head canon of all the demigods having some sort of marker on their body that their given when claimed by their godly parent or like, after they’ve completed a super important quest. Annabeth’s (and every other hypothetical child of Athena) would have owl wings etched on their back and arms. They glow whenever some intense shit is going down.
