Wonder Woman
Recently we re-decorated my son’s room with a superhero theme (Marvel and DC). We got these really neat collection of artistic prints for his wall each depicting a different hero, eight in all. My husband showed the finished wall to a female friend who was  appalled that Wonder Woman was not included. This got me to thinking about female superheroes. I know there are a bunch of less popular ladies in capes, but Wonder Woman is the most famous and iconic. Maybe this is because she is singular compared to the multitude of recognizable male characters.
What really sparked my thinker though was maybe there are so few female superheros because women are smarter than that. I can just imagine a woman watching the news at night seeing yet another egotistical man in tights standing in front of a destroyed city block saying “you’re welcome” to the camera. She rolls her eyes, infuriated, and signs up with a relief effort the next day to help people who were injured or lost their homes and businesses because of the hot shot brawling in the street. She knows where to place her energy to make her city better.
I think the superhero universe the everyday women make the changes for good and fight the evil. Wanna beat Lex Luther? You beat him in the stock market and business world. Wanna beat Hydra? Use the political foundations the same way they do. I look at the women like Pepper Potts as an example because she is the one running the stark company while Tony dicks around with his toys. She makes a difference while Tony gets the face time. Even Black Widow operates more behind the scenes because she knows that she can get more accomplished by observing and taking care of things quietly, rather than knocking over buildings (but she can kick ass when she needs to).
I guess my point is that instead of saying “we need more female superheros in the spotlight”, perhaps we should simply point out there are women superheroes every where if you just open your eyes. They don’t have to prance around in their underwear, punching people to be awesome role models.

Re-imagining My Posts
I’ve had this blog since i started my teaching classes and it was an assignment to discuss banal teaching prompts for a tech class. I have since deleted those posts and decided I want to use this platform to write out some of my musings.
