Creation + Creator = Cool
Psalm 19: 1 “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands”.
Hello, I’m Sharon and I recently graduated with a degree in Neuroscience and Biochemistry. As a Christian, I have always loved science (enough to get a degree in it) and the Bible. I love how scriptures use science/creation to point God’s glory.
I started this blog because these are the two things that I dearly love and I think science and faith can be used to understand more about God and his character.
Have you ever felt that?
Lying on my back under the dark gloomy Midwest skies, seeing stars that feel like tiny little diamonds. We probably felt weird how big the universe is and how small we are. I’ve watched documentaries on galaxies, DNA, black holes, and quantum physics, probably you did too in your high school physics class. Often as a Christian, we see science as just another thing or a hurdle to our faith because that’s what the world has made us believe. But what if I told you that is not true and science instead is present to help us understand God, his word and also his heart for us.
I for sure know, you look at flowers, mountains, oceans and be in awe of the Creator. Because I do, I look at creation and be more in awe and worship the Father for his handiwork. The same hands that made mountains and elephants (coolest animal imo) made us with so much intentionality and love (Psalm 139:14).
The key take is that Science shouldn’t be pulling us away from God. It should pull us closer.
It’s not an obstacle. It’s a stepping stool. A tool that helps us look up — just like David here.
Psalm 19 has been my favorite psalm for quite a bit now, it does a good job of revealing Gods glory and beauty. David writes that the skies are speaking not in words, but in beauty, in majesty, and in awe. David doesn’t need a telescope to be humbled. The sky alone is enough for his soul to see there is glory in creation that points to the Creator.
Another thing I love about this particular psalm is that how it doesn’t stop with the stars. Yes, the stars and the sun are cool and we should marvel at them.  Right after David marvels at the heavens, he shifts into something very different. Though odd at first, he switches the chapter about God’s Word:
“The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul…” (v.7). Insane switch up David, but it’s almost like he’s saying here that, “Hey look! The sky shows me how big God is. But his Word shows me who He is”.
And I need both. We all do.
Creation awakens our awe and honor for him.
But Scripture anchors our soul. We learn more about him, his heart for us, his ultimate and dear creation.
In our current society, we have seen and heard a lot of tension between Christianity and Science . Like we have to pick a side. Like where do you stand about evolution, vaccines, big bang, blah blah. But I don’t believe that anymore. In fact, I think it’s a tragedy when we make enemies out of things that were meant to work together.
God is not afraid of discovery. He is the Author of it.
If the heavens are declaring His glory and they are. Then studying them is an act of worship (Psalm 111:2)
I’d encourage you, when you look through the lens of a microscope or read about the expanding universe or the complex physiology of the human body, to not see chaos. But to see design.
To see a Creator who is both genius and intimate.
To see God, the Father.
So basically this blog is all my fascination and belief in science and scripture in words. And make you the reader and me to help see Science as a tool to help understand Christ a little bit more.
That’s my prayer as I start this as a hobby. You were made to wonder.
And I pray that the wonder would help us grow more close to him.
