i've been trying to feel less cringe/shy/ashamed about selfshipping recently and it's really helpful to remind myself that selfshipping & oc x canon are kind of like (imo) the ultimate expressions of love (romantic or otherwise) for a character...loving them so much that you put YOURSELF into the narrative to be there with them and/or make an oc specifically designed to be with them :") makes me feel a lot better!

HECK YEA ANON!!! selfshipping & oc x canon is an AMAZING form of self love and i know for a FACT everyone's f/os would think it's beautiful and cute that we all make ocs or self inserts or just put ourselves in their universes to love them and think about the relationship we have with them! selfshipping is so beautiful i love selfshipping <3 -mod ☁️

I'm ngl I feel so bad for this but whenever I just see that one character I just feel so weird

Okay so I have 2 f/os, I'll be calling them B and C for anonymity..

So basically A, B, and C are like in some weird relationship thing in source material / canon where B is desperately trying for A to love them (but if you look closely in B's character, it's not really that but ahem) while A doesn't do anything much about it but just treats B a bit more coldly. Meanwhile, A and C get along really well and like

A and C are one of the most like universally agreed upon ships in the fandom and it makes me feel so weird 😭

I like A, I really do, they're a very likeable character but it's just in this specific setting of A and C (or maybe even B) together makes me feel jealous and it doesn't even have to be in a directly romantic way and ughhhh I feel so bad about it 😓😓😓

i completely understand that anon! stuff like that can be really stressful :( i don't think you need to feel bad about it though, everyone has their own comfort zones and that's valid! definitely block whatever tags and people you need. we're always here for ya anon! - mod ☁️

an update on our absence

hi everyone! terribly sorry about the inactivity. mod 🌠 recently got a job so they haven't had much time to interact here, and mod ☁️ has been very burnt out and focused on other projects right now.

with that being said, i suppose you could consider us on hiatus? but we still plan to rb promo posts and events and stuff here and there - we just need some time to rest so we can get back to the swing of things with more energy that you all deserve!

when we come back, we'll open the askbox! that being said we're also going to empty any remaining asks that we don't have the energy to respond to... very sorry to those anons & users in advance! it's just been very hard to do so TmT

Here's a post f/o tips on ways to help you reconnect with your f/o, I posted about this briefly then deleted it, but I'm posting this again and adding details as it may help people with it! These help me but obviously everyone is different so what may help me, may be different for you.

-Watch content of them old or new, sometimes the comfort of seeing them can help you feel more connected to them. Whether it's something like a comfort video you can watch without getting sick of it, or discovering more content, it can remind you of all of the things you appreciate about them.

-Do things that remind you of your f/o irl. Maybe you have a jacket that you can say is theirs, a comfort item that they gave you, or something that makes you feel closer to them. Even merch can serve as a way to remind you that they care.

-Remind yourself that canon doesnt matter, the bond is yours and yours alone. The bond that you & your f/o have can be as close as you want, it doesn't matter what canon includes because it matters that you feel connected to your f/o, and your relationship with them is personal. Reminding yourself that they do care, love you, and support you can help you feel a lot better about it.

-Create or consume content with your f/o. Looking up things like fanfic, fanart, etc can help you feel closer to them, and creating content can also help you with that because you can make the details of the thing you're drawing/writing/etc to express the connection you share with them. If you want any tags recommendations, I personally enjoy ones such as: f/o comfort, f/o positivity. These tags provide reminders for feeling better and uplifting, as well as comfort when you feel down, upset, or even need reassurance and appreciation.

I have this dilemma recently. I've felt like I had to take a break from one of my favorite/main f/os because their fandom was getting too toxic to be in, and l just dont get excited by things in their source material anymore in general. recently I found a new f/o and a fandom to be in and its so nice and not toxic? im enjoying this new f/o and their fandom a lot but I'm worried I might be replacing my old one or feeling the urge to break up with them cause I've been focusing on my new one. I feel like my old f/o would want me to take a break from them if it made me feel so miserable to be in but I just don't want to replace them in any way, what should I do or how should I cope with this?

And in case if I need an anon tag or smth, maybe I could be the 🍒 🐇 anon?

hi 🍒🐇 anon! there is absolutely nothing wrong with needing a break from your f/o and growing attached to another; i don't think that's replacing or breaking up with them at all!

i personally experience a lot of fluctuating hyperfixation with all of my f/os, some im more focused on than others at some times, but it doesn't mean i love them any less! and i know they know that - and i'm sure your f/o knows that too! they want you to do what's best for you, i'm sure. - mod ☁️

This is gonna sound super funny but like.. advice on how to make platonic F/Os???? Like I soooooo so super badly want more platonic F/Os, I need some besties and buddies, but I don't really have any... I don't get some intense feeling or 'click' like I do with romantic ones. Is it just literally picking someone you like and indulging in them?? When I make friends irl I normally get like a feeling over it, but irl stuff doesn't always translate to fictional stuff.. I need some more friends!!😭😭

i don't think it's a silly question at all!! honestly for me it's also like a click - i typically don't get platonic f/os much unless it hits hard, yaknow? but i think there's nothing wrong with just simply choosing a character you like and friendshipping with them! it just depends on what you want to do, i think!

i don't know if this would be considered inappropriate for the askbox, so if you'd like I can privately message you instead, but I'm very new to the selfship community and I was wondering, what exactly counts as proship? I see a lot of selfship blogs that are uncomfortable with proshippers interacting. I googled it and apparently they're people who ship problematic things because "fiction isn't reality." But what topics exactly does this include? Rape? Yandere tropes? Pedophilia? Incest? Necrophilia? Zoophilia? Real person fiction? Kidnapping tropes? All of the above? I AM NOT A PROSHIPPER. I'm just genuinely a bit confused.

I'm putting my response under a 'read more' since it's long and gets into some of the mentioned topics in case anyone doesn't want to see it!

Explaining the term itself is a big task in and of itself as it used to mean many different things and even nowadays many different people describe it differently. Nowadays many people would describe "Proshipping" as shipping either in an unhealthy way (as an adult with minors, incestuously, etc.) or a problematic character/characters (abusers, assaulters, etc.). This is not to say it's the only definition, just the one that we, the mods are understanding.

When most people say "Proshippers DNI" as far as I'm aware it does refer to people who ship Adults/Minors, Incestuous relationships, abusive relationships, shipping with non-anthro non-sentient animals, real people, or selfshipping with a character who is themself problematic (pedophile, abuser, nazi, etc.)

People saying "Fiction isn't reality" is also a double edged sword as it can both be a defense of like, a villain f/o who does destructive "evil" things or to defend themselves in being attracted to characters who are minors so it's really not something that's easy to universally define as there's no doubt some people who use or define the terms and phrases differently.

It's really a case-by-case basis but IMO, labeling yourself as a proshipper very much puts yourself in the same space as the mentioned people attracted to minors and romanticizing abusers so if a blog says "proship friendly" anyone who uses the label regardless of their personal definition is gonna be interacting.

When WE (the mods) say "Proshippers DNI" we ARE referring to people who (are adults) who ship with minors, abusers, nazis, rapists, ship incestuous relationships, etc. We're not trying to harass anyone, just trying not to interact with anyone like that as a personal preference for our comfort, as do many people!
