how do you think john felt about the boys swearing when they were kids? do you think he cared? do you think it depended on their age, the words, the context, which of them was saying it (hehe), etc? you don't have to answer all of these I just want your opinion if you wouldn't mind!

HI <3<3 wow !! great question. thinking abt the way dean talks especially in 4.13 after school special (to teachers too i think he calls his homeroom teacher sweetums or something lol) contrasted w them falling into yes sir, no sir when things get serious, i think john wouldn’t care abt swearing as much but he would expect them to answer when he’s addressing them (especially on a hunt/hunt related. and to other seasoned hunters there would need to be respect bc thats johns world (thinking abt dean meeting rufus), more lenient otherwise). like they can grumble, curse, mess with each other Until it’s a distraction. also reflecting on john’s appreciation for wrestling 11.15 beyond the mat, i think he would be amused by dean’s appreciation for TV lines and jokes With the curse words lol When he’s around. john calls his son dude so i think there’s comradery. i do think in the heat of arguments he would lay down the rules abt swearing, abt language, or ‘taking that tone with me’ which is why their yes sirs and no sirs sound like that <3 and since john fights with sam more there would be more reaction to even the smaller shifts in tone (bc john is scared and john Wants to be close to sam and bc the drinking makes his container for his anger wobbly and loose) so sam would get policed more in a futile attempt to cage in the unhappiness (thinking abt the infamous argument ‘you couldn’t control me anymore!’ and how angry that makes john bc they used to be a unit and he used to be able to lay down the law in order to try to maintain the unit) and i think some of the othering language abt ‘monsters’ they learned From john, violent language in order to convince his children of the dangers of ‘them’ so if john is going to react or get upset abt cursing, it would be toward complaining abt hunting, turning to a lecture and threats of increasing ‘training to maintain focus on the important things’ (thinking abt the crossbow training that sam got instead of soccer i think)

logically it wouldn't have fixed anything because dean would have eventually grown up to be the age he acquired the mark of cain again, and in the meantime it just would've been a waiting game because the spell in the book of the damned does eventually turn out/is eventually revealed to be the only way to get rid of the mark once and for all; not to mention that perpetually aging dean back down (and sam with him to help dean in the meantime) to hopefully find an alternative is just straight up unsustainable in the long term. but! but. having dean be younger than sam for an extended period of time would have fixed them been super interesting to explore for more than that single episode
