Hold on.
Do you seriously believe police are the problem? That we're the reason crime has skyrocketed these past couple of years? Well, let me tell you something: we're not. Do you have any idea the kind of responsibility a cop has on their shoulders? I'm a cop. I do. Every single day, we walk out our front door with our senses pushed to the max, never knowing when somebody is gonna take a shot at us just because we wear that uniform. And yes, I'll admit police brutality is a problem, but only about 5% of cops are like that, and you're making the other 95% feel like we're unwanted or unneeded. And yes, you're correct. The pandemic is to blame. But the decline in cops? Friend, that's not lowering crime rates, it's only lowering the rate of violent crimes that are turned in. Did you know about 50% of crime goes unnoticed? We don't have a cop problem, we have a heart problem.
When New York鈥檚 officers engaged in an announced slowdown in policing in late 2014 and early 2015,聽civilian complaints of major crime in the city dropped. And despite significant staffing shortages at law enforcement agencies around the country, if trends continue, 2023 will have聽the largest percentage drop in homicides聽in U.S. history. It鈥檚 true that such a drop would come after a two-year surge, but the fact that it would also occur after a significant reduction in law enforcement personnel suggests the surge may have been due more to the pandemic and its effects than depolicing. At the very least, the steady stream of Justice Department reports depicting rampant police abuse ought to temper the claim that policing shortages are fueling crime. It鈥檚 no coincidence that the cities we most associate with violence also have long and documented histories of police abuse. When people don鈥檛 trust law enforcement, they stop cooperating and resolve disputes in other ways. Instead of fighting to retain police officers who feel threatened by accountability and perpetuate that distrust, cities might consider just letting them leave.

"First comes father
Then comes son
One with a knife
And one with a gun"
14 yr old Tandy Lewis didn't expect to find her father stabbed to death in the family attic. She didn't expect for her life to be turned upside down in a heartbeat. And she didn't expect for a psycho killer to have his sights set on claiming her as his own. But on the day of her father's murder, Tandy's young life is about to take a dark turn she never imagined.

POV: You're writing a book.
Me: This is gonna be a bestseller! Watch out, James Patterson!
Re-reading the chapter: I am a utterly disgusting excuse for a human being.

Okay everyone, I've finished my debute novel, The Price Of Justice. But now, I'm setting my sights on my next project. I'm writing book 2, which is called Forged in Justice (for now) I'm wondering how to set up the main and the subplots. Most book series go downhill after book 1, but I'm not letting that happen.聽
In book 1, Justice Taylor, a young female Texas Ranger, tracked down a serial killer, having to face her horrific past in the process and come to terms with everything she went through. She caught the killer, only to find he was someone she once trusted. But justice was served and he was put behind bars.聽
What should happen in book 2??? Any suggestions? Comment below and give me your input. All ideas will be credited!

My username on Wattpad is ShelbyGPryor. I write crime fiction. Right now I'm working on a book called The Price Of Justice. If you've got just a second, please go vote for each chapter and, if you skim through and like what you see, add it to your reading list. It's about a detective named Justice Taylor tracking down a serial killer known only as Midnight who is terrorizing Texas by brutally murdering teenage girls. Hope you enjoy and thanks in advance!
Happy writing!

Writing advice!!!
I've seen a lot of beginner-and more experienced writers, for that matter- use dialogue tags to explain how a character said something. Sort of like this.
"Are you kidding me?" She asked, annoyed. "You weren't flirting? She was practically sitting in your lap."
He blew out a hot breath and murmered angrily "Really? Because you were dancing with him you couldn't have gotten a piece of paper between you. I can't...."
"Can't what? Believe I noticed? I'm not that dumb." She screamed, anger dripping off her tongue.
See how clogged that was? You get all caught up in how they said it and not what they said. Now look at this;
"Are you kidding me?" She questioned. " She was practically sitting in your lap. You don't call that flirting?"
"No. I call it flirting with you're dancing so close to someone you couldn't get a piece of paper between you! I can't believe you."
See? By ommitting one statement and cleaning up the others, look how much clearer that was. I'm no expert but this is just something that helped me.
Got anything to add? Go right ahead! And remember, everybody writes differently. Use this and mold it reasonably to your writing.

Synonyms for "said"
It isn't a complete list but the best I could come up with on short notice. Feel free to add more!
(Interrogative)
Asked
Inquired
Interrogated
Questioned
(Imperative)
Voiced
Spoke
Pointed out
Suggested
Explained
Thought out loud
Responded
Answered
(Exclaimatory)
Screamed
Shouted
Yelled
Laughed
Note: Only use dialogue tags when it is unclear who is speaking, e.g. if you write he/she will the reader know who is speaking? If so, ommit dialogue tags altogether. If it helps to explain the character's attitude towards the subject, explaining their actions, facial expressions, or tone of voice is permitted.

WRITING ADVICE!!!
"Pain is Plain."
Let's face it; saying " it was very painful," falls just a little flat. You want something that will empower your writing, enrichen it. Using words that vividly describe a situation or feeling will help your readers "visualize" the scene. It will make them wonder " How is the main character going to survive this?" Or, if the hero is inflicting rightful pain on the antagonist, it will cause them to cheer and anticipate what their favorite character will do next. But none of this will work if you describe a deadly wound as "It really hurt." Here are some alternate words for "painful."
Excruciating
Seering
Stabbing
Ripping
Blood-curling
Paralyzing
Unimaginable
Writhing
Twisting
Shot
Shredding
Tearing
Agonizing
Indescribable
Intolerable
Harrowing
Torturing
Torturous
Aching
Cramping
Dull aching
Burning
Cold sensation
Electric shock
Nagging
Intense
Pins and needles
Sharp
Spasms
Splitting
Tender
Throbbing
Tingling
Tiring
Exhausting
Acute
Burning
Chapped
Nauseating
MILD PAIN: PAIN YOUR CHARACTER NOTICES BUT IT DOESN'T DISTRACT THEM.
Pinch
Sting
Smart
Stiffness
MODERATE PAIN: PAIN THAT DISTRACTS BUT DOESN'T TRULY STOP YOUR CHARACTER.
Ache
Throb
Distress
Flare
SEVERE PAIN: PAIN YOUR CHARACTER CAN'T IGNORE.
Agony
Anguish
Suffering
Thoes
Torment
Stabbing
OBLITERATING: KIND OF PAIN THAT PROHIBITS ANYTHING BUT BEING IN PAIN. (AND DOING ANYTHING TO ALLEVIATE IT.)
Ripping
Tearing
Writhing

WRITING PROMPT!!!
We all love it when hero shows up on villain's doorstep bleeding and says "didn't know where else to go." It's a classic trope, and with due reason.
But you know what we never see with that? Villain's POV!
Do they grab hero and drag them inside, patch them up and demand to know who hurt them? Or do they stand there dumbfounded for 10 minutes straight like "What the heck just happened?"
Do you have a favorite writing prompt? Drop it in the comments below! I'd love to hear from you!
