I’m taking over the @52artists52actions account this week as part of their year long project of artists and activists authoring from across Asia. Follow the account to see me posting from Tasmania all week. ——————————————————— #Repost @52artists52actions with @get_repost ・・・ @artspacesydney and Andrew Cameron AM & Cathy Cameron present 52 ARTISTS 52 ACTIONS with Shiraz Bayjoo @shirazbayjoo I will present a series of island states and post-colonies, reflecting on sites of colonial genocide and trauma. Drawing upon ongoing research through video, historical texts and poetry, these landscapes are considered as memorials to often undocumented or marginalised histories. The action will present sites from Mauritius, Madagascar and Ile Goree, and include newly documented spaces around Tasmania as part of the Representation, Remembrance and the Memorial forum (led by artist Brook Andrew) taking place in Melbourne this week. #52artists52actions #shirazbayjoo #memorial #trauma #postcolonial #marginalised #Mauritius #Madagascar #IleGoree #Tasmania #representation #rrmemorial #soon @cityofsydney @public_office #copyrightagency @fabioongaratodesign (at Hobart, Tasmania)

#Repost @edcrossfineart with @get_repost ・・・ Before the opening of the exhibition Representation, Remembrance and the Memorial at the MADA Gallery, join artists Shiraz Bayjoo and Brook Andrew and musician Jessie Lloyd for a frank conversation about making art and music that tackles the histories of colonisation. Originally from the tropics of North Queensland, Jessie Lloyd is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performer, producer and creative entrepreneur who is dedicated to the continuation of song traditions. Jessie is based in Melbourne where she is working the Mission Songs project. Searching for the secular songs that were sung after church, Jessie explores the day to day life on the Aboriginal missions, settlements and reserves through music. Shiraz Bayjoo is an interdisciplinary artist based in London whose recent works have investigated the histories and memories of the Indian Ocean region and the legacy of European colonialism. Originally from Maurituis, Bayjoo was artist in residence at Whitechapel gallery during 2011 and has exhibited with Tate Britain and the Institute for International Visual Art (Iniva). Brook Andrew is an interdisciplinary artist based in Melbourne/Berlin who examines dominant narratives, often relating to colonialism and modernist histories. He is the Chief Investigator of the Australian Research Council project 'Representation, Remembrance and the Memorial' (2016-2018), based at Monash University. (at Monash University Caulfield)

Big thanks to everyone who came to our performance last week- here I’m reading one of the many slave stories of #lemorne mountain- apologies to all Mauritians for my poor Creole on this occasion! #Repost @brook_andrew_artist with ・・・ The final #performance #keynote for the #Public #Galleries #Summit #2018 @carriageworks Tuesday afternoon at 2:30pm. Extending on my #collaboration for #whatsleftbehind with @shirazbayjoo @rushdi_anwar @vered.snear @anneloxley and #MayunKiki with #MCKronic and @pdaantosberry ⚡️ Carriageworks and Regional and Public Galleries of NSW in association with #Museums & Galleries of NSW present #Art & #Artists: Public Galleries Summit 2018. Held concurrently with the 21st Biennale of Sydney, Art & Artists will bring together staff from galleries throughout Australia and New Zealand during Sydney’s busiest month of art and culture. Specially commissioned for the summit, What’s Left Behind by Brook Andrew, is a reflection on Andrew’s work for the 2018 #Biennale of #Sydney, and more broadly his #collaborative processes with institutions and artists. In this new live work, a narrator will perform a text, interspersed with moving #image, and stories told in multiple languages by Andrew, and artists Vered Snear, Shiraz Bayjoo, Rushdi Anwar and Mayun Kiki. (at Carriageworks)
