Kicking things off with Pampero Anniversario and a Bolivar Royal Corona. This is a pairing for those with a sweet tooth and a soft spot for rich chocolate, cinnamon and clove spice, and fruits. The Bolivar Royal Corona immediately brings a rich nuttiness and milk chocolate to the fore, with marzipan on the retrohale. This is a bold, full-bodied cigar with fantastic construction, even burn and great flavour right out of the box — no need to let them rest for long in the humidor before getting stuck right in. The Pampero Anniversario is an exemplary Venezuelan dark rum at a fantastic price. Delivering rich chocolate, candied orange and oak spices on the nose, it has none of the cloying, almost artificial, chocolate-box sweetness of similarly priced rums such as Diplomatico Reserva. Although the finish is could be longer (it's medium length), it's well balanced and indulgent flavours will have you coming back for more. Skip dessert, have this instead.
