Chapter Five - Public Release

Hello everyone!

As promised, it is now 7 July where I'm from, so the public release of Blood of the Living's fifth chapter is here. It adds 98,000 words to the demo.

In the update, you can:

Have a brief encounter with someone important to Hermes

Spend some quality time with your RO/PO

Some of them may even have something important to confess

Maybe hang out with your parents (or just your dad, if you prefer)

Y’all get mad at Rachel for cockblocking Percabeth, but you should really be mad at Calypso.

Rachel is actually an interesting character, with an arc that separated herself from Percy and she actually got to be her own person.

Calypso was written as an obstacle to keep the will-they-won’t-they going so that Rick could sell another book. She is there for one chapter, and doesn’t really do much for Percy’s arc except to give Annabeth a reason to be pissed at him.

She was then brought back in HoH because Leo “needed” a girlfriend. She served no other purpose.

Something something female characters being written by men that only exist to enhance the arc of the male protagonist something something.

The most Percy Jackson thing Percy has ever done.

Can we take a moment to talk about how Percy's development in the original series was incomplete? He saw that one part of the system was flawed; minor gods not getting recognition. But he did not see that the overarching sytem itself, i.e. All demigods, irrespective of their parentage (even children of major olympian gods) being used as pawns of the Gods, being abandoned with a single parent and sent on "missions" do do their dirty work etc etc until Heroes of Olympus.

People say that Percy was well-written in PJO, but at a closer look, I'm not so sure.

... I believe they aren't particularly extraordinary or anything. I've read waaayyy better romances tbh.

They seem like an over-glorified amalgamation of popular tropes (friends to lovers, our parents are rivals, hero "gets" the girl, (pseudo) love triangles etc).

Sure, they have a few really cute moments, but, milquetoast and vanilla to me (no hate).

Blood of the Living - Demo 1

Hello everyone!

As promised, today I have released the first public demo for Blood of the Living, sequel to Fields of Asphodel.

The demo contains the character creator from FoA, plus a basic 'save creation' system, so that at least some of the flavor text in BotL will reflect your FoA playthrough of choice.

Keep in mind, of course, that only playthroughs that resulted in the Underworld Ending (those where the PC chose to spend half time or more in the Underworld), will be carried into the sequel. The Olympus Ending is a complete story as-is, and the sequel will not continue from it.

Chapters One and Two of the game are both included in the demo, to a total of approximately 120,000 words.

Features:

Tone indicators are making a comeback. You'll have to turn them on from the stats screen, as they are off by default.

A new feature that allows you to more permanently set touch preferences is also available from the stats screen. By default, the game will still periodically inquire whether your inclinations or aversions regarding physical touch have changed, but if you'd rather just set this and forget it, the new option may be for you.

NPC initiative also returns, and is on by default. More information on all these settings can be found in the stats screen, if you're not sure what I'm talking about.
