One of the main reasons why it is so hard for me to ship them in the first 3 seasons is that both of them were each others second options. Levi had Erwin, and Hange had Moblit. And I’m not saying they did not have a connection during that time, ofc they had, both of them cared for each other deeply, but still in many situations I just can’t see them going up to one another. In a hypothetical situation they would (not always, but mostly) go to Moblit and Erwin and not each other.

But in season 4, and the 4 year time skip, they were all that was left. That making them bond even more over time.

aftg tv show and the first trailer for jean's season/spin off starts with a bunch of newscasters and reporters saying his name in various accents

and then we cut to jean sitting in the bed at abbie's, its completely silent (other than maybe a faint ticking), hes all bandaged up and terribly bruised, staring down at his hands in anger as the camera slowly zooms in, then he looks up and his own voice (in voiceover) says my name is jean moreau. i belong to the moriyamas. my place is at evermore. i will endure.

cue intense music with a sick beat and cut to several things happening at once: jean throws a punch, renee's necklace dangling above his palm, jeremy almost crashing his car, (idk man theres too many good ones 😭)

cut! quieter now, camera follows neil silently lowering to a crouch in front of jean (who we can barely see), imitating a gun to his head with his fingers, "pop. how easily these monsters die in the end."

music is back and we keep flashing between a bloody jean in two different bathtubs- then kevin is in front of him: "you made me a promise." / "fuck you. you have no right to hold me to it." / "but i will."

last cut is jean walking onto court in USC gold and red, in voice over he says my name is jean moreau. if i am not a raven, who am i?

rereading six of crows at seventeen is such a strange experience. like on one hand i relate to these characters, but on the other they’re out here committing intense crimes and pulling off impossible heists while i’m writing fan fiction in my room and struggling to get through the school year with my sanity intact. like.

ginger runaway with a shitty father

perceived heartless psychopath who’s actually just pining over someone else in the group

girl who is religious and tries to stay faithful even while she is being/has been a gang member

blonde person 

one who came from a fucked up almost-cult that has Court in the name and is now trying to change their mentality after meeting the very types of people they’ve been conditioned against

gay

kidnapping and torture by previously mentioned shitty father

so many traumas. like, more than should be in a single series.

such as a trauma associated with water

plus mommy issues, daddy issues, AND sibling issues, so familial abandonment in general

definitely a lotttt of gore

and drugs

possibly the worst pickup lines in existence (calling your girl an investment 🤝 calling your man a hallucination)

black birds

dead group member

underdogs who go on to absolutely obliterate everyone else in their respective careers

overall a bunch of traumatized college-aged kids going out and doing some sketchy insane shit while forging deep connections with each other

Making posts about aftg is so funny because the characters live lives of such epic proportion that I feel like I have to first name last name them. I'm not calling the self-proclaimed queen of a fictional sport kevin. That is Kevin Day. The name just has weight. Neil Josten went to great lengths to claim his damn name. Jean Moreau is taking active steps daily to shift the meaning that his name holds positively. Jeremy Knox existed for years in collective imagination, yes for his personality, but also, I'm sure, it's cause that name is just weighty.

But then there's Andrew, who is so important to the fandom that he lives in a different realm of notoriety in my head. I just say, Andrew. Like one just says Zendaya.

The real plot of aftg was the slow shift from Andrew and Kevin co-parenting Neil, to Andrew and Neil co-parenting Kevin.
