an upsetting update for little ginger:

I made his legs, and all was well. I then decided that he looked far too misproportioned, so gave him major surgery by way of cutting him completely in half and sewing him to be shorter.

However, while he is now shorter and looks more proportioned, the whole ordeal has made it so I can barely look at him without feeling disappointed with what I've done.

So, with a heavy heart, I am announcing a brief hiatus from little ginger while I get over myself and bring myself to remake his lower half, but I will still hopefully be active on Tumblr during this hiatus.

I will still post his photos below (under the cut) but please keep in mind that this is not his final form (he is also of course getting clothes at some point in the future, namely his spacesuit)

update: little ginger now has arms!

It took me a week and for simplicity he is now 'little ginger'. I also fixed the way his shoulders were shaped slightly to make the arms fit right.

I'm going to have to unpick the crochet at the bottom and re-do it to put in the legs but two more limbs and I can finally start work on the real challenge: figuring out his spacesuit.

(In life news I just got my summer work from my teachers so progress on this project may slow down because of that, but not by much!)

(no updates on knitted John as of today- I've hit a real roadblock in trying to figure out his arms)

I've been thinking about the Tracy Age Order (TM?) and I've come up with a theory.

In the episode 'Grandma Tourismo' (S2Ep18 of TAG) John refers to Virgil as 'big brother', which confirms that John is younger than Virgil, so the question of the age order is resolved, right?

But the intro sequence, not just for the newer series but the original series as well, is seemingly put in age order, not in Thunderbird/role order.

In both versions it goes, Scott, John, Virgil, Gordon, Alan. So why is that?

Now, while I could spend the post discussing the age order, I'd rather touch on the theory I created to solve the inconsistency.

The Twin Theory (TM?)

Essentially, the theory is that Virgil and John are twins (stay with me, allow me to defend myself). Technically, Virgil is older than John, but I theorise that it may only be minutes older. (Possibly one of those situations where Virgil was born before midnight on the 15th August, and John after midnight on the 16th).

The episode 'Breakdown' (S1Ep16 of TAG) poses a serious problem for this theory, where Virgil's birthday is very clearly celebrated, and John's (if they are twins) isn't mentioned. However, I am grasping at straws here, so please let me continue as I salvage this. John doesn't seem the type to want a birthday party, let alone a suprise one. He is given a large role in the party planning, making sure Virgil stays distracted(/on task saving people) while the party is set up. This is probably courtesy of his role as the 'Space Monitor', but what if it was also a way for him to celebrate also- helping with the party and to trick his brother is his celebration, rather than the standard party.

They look nothing alike, (Virgil looking far more like Scott than any of his other brothers) but they have got this brains/brawn situation going on; Virgil is clearly the strongest of the brothers and John is suggested to be the smartest of the brothers (evidenced by EOS in the episode EOS, S1Ep8 of TAG, where she says that for a human, he's pretty smart (paraphrased)).

So. That's my theory, TLDR: Virgil and John are twins, Virgil is technically older but their ages are so close that they're essentially joint second in the age order.

(If not a theory, definitely a headcannon, and it may pop up in my writing)

a small update from the other day, John now has a body!

I ended up crocheting the rest of the body. I wanted to knit it but crochet was easier to get the shape.

I also gave him a proper nose, and when doing that realised he had no white in his eyes, just iris and pupil. Should I add the white?

working on another fic (a sequel of sorts to my prev. fic, From Above) in true procrastination fashion I drew the art for the fic before writing the fic, so in a way? The fanfiction is based on the art?

I have no timelapse as it's traditional art (watercolour and pencil) and really hard to film, sorry!

I love watercolour I should do it more often..

Anyway this drawing and the fic that will be linked with it is called 'Coward's Star'.

It's based on the idea that (battle) scars on the back but not on the front suggests that the person in question is a coward as they are running from battle when they get the wound (as it's on the back of the body).

I will give more information on the plot of the fic when I finish it.

Hello!

This is my Thunderbirds dedicated side blog, for my main blog please visit @chaotickitchenware.

I will be mostly posting about John, as he is my favourite character (as well as EOS) so expect writing, digital drawings + paintings, watercolour art, and even wool craft (knitting, crochet etc.) related to John on this blog.

My first few posts will be reblogs of posts on my main blog, just so all the Thunderbirds content I have made is all in one space.

All of my art is signed with 'mogmug'. I will continue signing art this way, and I will also sign off posts using the name 'mogmug'. But 'spaceginger' or 'spaceging3r' is also okay to refer to this blog.

On a similar vein, as well as the generic fandom tags, the tags I will use mostly follow the format of:

For example:

would refer to a piece of writing or work related to my writing.
